I would really love a Subaru at the moment and I'll be honest in saying I don't think it would actually cost *that* much more to run than my current Alfa due to my flat out driving style in the poor little motor trying get some poke out of it but I don't like/want a UK Subaru so Insurance is just completely laughable for me at this time.

I hear it's exceptionally bad in Ireland.

thats probably because Irelands a ****hole but I live in Northern Ireland.;) You are right though, it is balls! My best quote was £2k for a UK2000 standard. How grim!:o

Makes no difference to the specialised insurers mate, gary advised me this when I asked and when I was on the phone the other week I asked again and was advised no difference between uk / import -

Gary should ring up most of the insurance companies on NI and tell them that.

When I was a young rider/driver it was still more expensive to insure a vehicle until you reached 21 when it became a bit cheaper, and 25 when the cost dropped significantly.

Certainly not like it is these days though, I can't believe the cost of the premiums and it would have been impossible to get on the road then if costs had been relatively so high. Seems a bit unfair to me.
