Back to topic,
In all honesty fella your starting with the wrong car. You'd be far better off selling your UK car and buying a JDM STI. For what your gonna spend on your car you could add that to whatever you get for your UK car and get a nice STI. Much better base for modding.
And insurance wise, yes a STI is more than a UK car but would probably be a similar price as a modded UK car. You would have to tell the insurance company you have modified your car remember.

i would defo agree with matty about sellin and buyin a sti mate, i spent over 10,000 on my uk turbo version 6 and got to 350bhp but that was with handling, braking, power and looks, and now im scraping fopr parts lol ive bought a p1 and atleast now its worth spending the money! and running 420 bhp! with less cost and hopfully 450 bhp once simon maps it today!

buy a p1 lol best car ive ever drove and ive drove m3s m5s rs4 but theres somthin bout th p1, i think they have assisted stering control as when i go round corners it pulls it self, althoigh that maybe down to coilovers, strut brace front and rear, h brace, perrin drop links front a nd rear, perrin anti roll bars front and rear,

Love the p1's but having 3 kids, wife and a dog it would take me 5 years to save enough money but this way I can have an impreza and add to it when i have the funds.I wont be looking for stupid power just between 300-330 as i wouldnt use it.

So you got any bits going cheap! lol

Aamar786 20 May 2011 07:14 AM

not a lot left mate just pm me if u need anyfin, i would defo buy an sti version of watever car u buy, not worth buyin n modding uk turbos, there too weak! also sti will be standered 280bhp so urnot far of ur target, they will come with a big enough turbo as standered

So you guys all bought your Imprezas to go fast in a straight line. A car that is renowned for it's handling capabilities.... Lol.
Sorry guys but I can't see the fascination with that, many cars can go like stink between the roundabouts but only some can go like stink around them. And to be scared of binning it, even bigger lol. These cars are made to be driven in anger once in a while, it's what the Impreza is all about.
Actually the Impreza is renowned for the traction it has, certainly not for it's handling. Like i said above, an out of the box Impreza is a decent wepon already and if you are approaching it's limits on the public highway then you quite simply should not have a licence. Yes the short blast was my thing but i'm not saying i drove like a tart round the corners - i just never drove fast enough to fly into a corner which would warrant me standing on the brakes - you can drive swiftly without doing this.
Back to the handling thing - 106 GTi's and Lotus Elises make Imprezas look daft in the handling stakes ;)

Dude are you for real.....???
106 GTI out handle an Impreza, whatever world are you living in. Admittedly the Elise is superior than a standard Impreza but bring an Elise up against my car and you'd be in for a massive shock. I'm yet to drive another car that handles like my current car ( and I've driven a fair few cars buddy).
A standard Subaru is good through the twists (if you can drive and have the balls that is buddy), far better than say focus st, astra vxr, golf gti (all of which have similar power) but a well set up one really takes some beating.
And to say that we shouldn't have a liecence if we drive fast through the bends is utterly ridiculous. For instance, there is a section of road near me where the speed limit is 60mph. I have yet to hit 60 through there my friend.

anyway what front strut brace fit uk turbo with sti intercooler?

scoobyrichuk 20 May 2011 06:50 PM

I would advise listening to the guys suggesting sorting brakes/handling out first. I have a 99 uk turbo and have bought 8 pot k sports, 2 pot wrx rears, 17" wheels, p1 springs, whiteline rear arb + poly bushes - these have made the car so much better to drive that I'm not bothered about straight line speed. I have a VF35 lying around that I bought 6 months ago and I've decided not to fit it and just remap with what I already have. I've fitted a sportscat + hks catback system (and a panel filter) and it's being remapped by bob rawle next tuesday. I'm hoping for approx 260bhp which IMO is plenty. With the handling/braking being so much better than when it was stock I don't feel like I'm missing out without running big power. Total cost of my mods will be around £3000 for what I believe is now a much better drivers' car, you could spend money on a new turbo/clutch/injectors/intercooler/remap which could cost £2k+ with labour costs and then blow the engine/gearbox quickly and end up with a huge rebuild bill. IMO improve the braking/handling + remap with the td04 or sell it and buy an sti!

I don't think i'm making myself very clear. Handling is very different from grip / traction and it is widely accepted that a Scoob, doesn't really handle that well out of the box (i'm talking classics here).
Seriously - if you pushed an Impreza to it's limit's on a 60mph road it is likely that in many places speeds of well over 100mph could be touched and with the sort of power some Impreza's run, pushing towards 150 is not out of this world. I'm not saying for one minute that anyone here does those sorts of speed - i'm simply saying that if you are prepared to push those limits then you shouldn't have a licence. There is a huge difference driving swiftly through the twisties and pushing to the limits of the grip of a Scoob :thumb:
Anyway fook all this - i'm stuck in a soot chucking Mondeo at the moment - get your Impreza round to mine and take me for a spin - i've almost forgotten what a sub 9 second 0-60 feels like :D

Just make sure you never get a drive of a 300+ Classic then. Trust me, it doesn't matter how well your car handles and stops, you WILL want one if you do that :D

+1 for the above ,every car i have bought over the last 20 yrs has been to drive .In a straight line or on the carriageway then yes i will and do constantly get my boot down. But on the twisty B roads is what really makes me want to go mental :norty:.

I can see both points of the argument though ,because when i increased the power of my 99 uk turbo from 215 to 317 bhp,it was savage. i never got round to sorting the suspension or the brakes out :(,and maybe if i did it might have saved me when my rear tyre blew, out writing the car off .

2 weeks later when i bought my MY 2000 uk turbo, before i bolted all the stuff from my old car on the 1st thing i bought was some tar ox GC8 grooved discs and some mintex 1155 pads. This improved the stopping dramatically,i then went on to having the car remapped again and it is now putting out 330bhp.The original suspension was no match for this so prodrive bilsteins were fitted (£150) all around & prodrive geometry settings applied .I now have a car with 50% more bhp than std, and a car which understeers less at the limit and is much more nicer to drive especially on the twistys without the backend constantly trying to get away from you.

With out the suspension mods my car has cost me less than a grand ,thanks to a group buy for the remap which cost £440.00 and all the other components were 2nd hand ,but top quality ie:VF28, vortex, samco,H&S,sti, walbro, etc, and the difference now is like night & day.

The power is nice :thumb:,but it is nothing without control imho
