write to the chief super for your area - his/her name will be on their website.
I guess to claim for compo the chap had to report the incident to get a crime number? It does seem a little OTT with all the real crime about but then again people are being savaged by dogs and in some cases disfigured or even killed so maybe they have to take an interest, be seen to be doing it by the book. Your point about the guns is a good one and does put it into perspective. I made a complaint against a cop last year, it was taken seriously and dealt with fairly, swiftly and properly. |

It must be an awful worry owning a dangerous dog. I guess when they are attacking other dogs and injuring other dog walkers a normal, responsible person would consider whether they could justify keeping the dog, let alone allowing a youngster to be in charge of it. I'm just glad it wasn't a child protecting their dog, it could have been tragic. Still, the police seem to be aware of the danger posed so let's hope there's a sensible outcome.

Maybe they saw the possibility of ticking off another target just by contacting you and having done that have lost all interest.
I would forget it unless they try again. Les |
Quite simply, plod make appointments, which they turn up to unless dispatched to a job. plodded would rather get to see you than pick up another job to investigate.
Once an investigation has been assigned to plod, he has to get rid of it in a certain amount of days. Bollockings will be handed out at 30, 60 and 90 days, after that plodded will be up for a major bolllocking from a very senior officer. Also, take in to account that cops work a shift pattern, typically to early shifts, two latest and then two nights, followed by four off. Between shifts, any calls to the control room will result in a message left for plod to read next time he is in. The important thing to remember is that plod will be desperate to get to see you, as he doesn't want an easily disposable job hanging over him. Most likely outcome is he will record that the guy has claimed compo through a civil action and that he has spoken to your daughter, which he would record as "received words of advice", no offences, file the job as closed. In all honesty, you really have chosen the wrong forum to ask about the police. :D |
Sometimes it helps to share one's experiences though.

Just tell plod that dog has died of old age waiting for them to turn up.
Case closed :) dl |
Harrassment, no.
I think this could be the confusing bit:

He got hurt in the fray. Couple of scratches on his back. Shepherds have big paws :( Are you responsible for the dog when it is under someone elses 'control'? Ask the police to deal with your daughter. |

Yeah, insurance paid out. Our dog won the fight.
I work for a farmer, and he had 4 high calibre guns stolen last year. Plod lost interest in 3 months. :cuckoo: Serious weapons!!!! Yet my dog does what dogs do and we are getting more grief. How does that work :cuckoo: The thieves who stole the guns, however........... If I were in your position, I would make my way to the plod shop and ask to speak to the duty inspector, make a formal complaint. Been there, done that. THREE times! |

You should NEVER get between 2 fighting dogs!! The bloke put himself at risk of suffering more than a couple of scratches- by either dog as obviously their minds were hostile towards each other and that could have been transffered to him. What a berk!
Can the plod really leave it that long to call round?? Who informed the police, the chap or the insurance company? Did he have his dog on or off the lead?? The only thing I can think of to excuse them not turning up, is if they were diverted to another call/incident, but they should have the manners to explain this when they rebooked. If they phone again, tell them you cannot afford to wait in for them on the off chance they might be able to make the appointment. I wonder if they might be amenable to dealing with it over the phone. As for the comment that there is now history and if it happens again, the dogs days are numbered... I think that comment could cause both Lee & her daughter some unease, and upset. To help clarify this quote is from the Dog Act of 1871. 'The court can look at the dog’s general disposition, they may consider evidence including character evidence from a behaviourist who has examined your dog, your vet, neighbours, friends & family etc. If the dog has behaved dangerously on one occasion only - there might be a defence in that the incident is not sufficiently exceptional to prove that the dog has a dangerous disposition or character.' I have seen from posts by Lee what a big baby Jetski is, so with lessons learnt, Jet stays on the lead and there shouldnt be anymore incidents. I hope A isn't too upset by it all, Leeloo!! |
My GSD used to do the same. OFF the lead he was a big softy, ON the lead he'd fight owt, attack first ask questions later.:(
The number of people who used to let THEIR dogs off the lead, then, when asked NOT to let them approach mine, would either answer, "It's OK, he's not aggressive", or worse, "It's OK, he can take care of himself!". That last one used to set my teeth on edge. In the end I started carrying a big stick with which to threaten both dogs AND their owners, but it was hard work.:( |
how did i miss all the posts on page 2? Scoobywon't to the rescue:thumb:

GSD's are infamous for lead aggression...
But if your GSD isnt socialised enough or hasnt excellent recall then it shouldnt be let off the lead if you know it suffers from dog/dog aggression. Its a very irresponsible thing to do as you already know the outcome of your actions is gonna be a fight. As for the guy trying to break up the fight,i think we all know that we shouldnt get in between 2 fighting dogs. But if my dog was being unfairly attacked by another dog,i would do everything i could to save my animal... I seriously suggest that you go to dog training classes and put some work into your dog so its not a menace to others when off the lead.. As for the Police......Just go to your nearest station, explain the situation and tell them your not prepared to wait in again for an appointment,as you have been let down so much. They will probably just drop it.. |
Jeez....how do you think this is harrassment? You could try and make a complaint and you may well be told, 'sorry, other calls got in the way and we couldn't make it'. That's the way it works!
I wouldn't bother waiting in again. If they want to speak to you, let them try their luck turning up at your door. If you're in, you're in. As for the bloke already having his compensation, that would've been a civil matter and nothing to do with the police if it was done through insurance. If the incident was reported to the police, then as already said, they'll have to finalise it etc. Just carry on with things as normal and don't worry about it :) Can't believe the bloke put a claim in! |
By the sounds of it, it was one isolated incident.,. And im pretty sure the first post stated not to bother posting..if your going to start dog/owner bashing.
FWIW I have 2 gsd's and both can be a royal PITA when walking them.. And i have attended dog training classes. Our youngest was actually bought from a certified (retired) military dog handler who runs a training school with programmes from basic obidience to personal protection. |
Anyone want to hazard a guess as to who our new 'friend' is?

I've got the Officers number, so will give him another week. If he doesn't contact us, I will contact him, again. It's almost five months now, we just want to draw a line under it and enjoy our dog. Thanks for the reply. :)

It's a dog fight, FFS, and a bloke got scratched! Get a sense of proportion, people! :D
|
Why is the dog now muzzled? Do you feel or think there is a risk that your dog will attack again?

Dog has been muzzled on walks, since the incident. But, as I said in my opening post, this is not an opportunity for dog bashing. It was an unfortunate accident and a one off, thank God.
Thanks for your input :) but i will say this now ;) I think you need to put your self in the other persons shoes, if you were walking your dog along and another dog attacked your dog or your husband, would you try and get it off ? because i know i would! well done for keeping it muzzeld when out and good luck with the police side of things |
