Did someone mention Porsche ;)

john banks 06 November 2010 12:14 PM

Back to GTRs... stock turbo full weight R35 has just done 10.1 quarter. E85, pumps, injectors, Cobb, intake, exhaust, sticky rear tyres.

Good news, picked up a COBB off Ben for my GTR just the stage 2 map at present and that is a night and day difference. Thinki'm going to treat myself to full decat and filters with a GTC custom COBB tune to see whatthe fuss is all about

john banks 09 November 2010 11:29 PM

About the same again gain for custom tune.

alloy 11 November 2010 09:52 AM

John i appreciate you have done a lot of work with GTC and COBB and i've spoken to you when i had my EVO 9 and was using ECU Flash which again you did a lot of work on!

In your experience with the GTR is it worth while having the custom tune with just the Y-Pipe on? I'm thinking of going the full hog but i like the more subtle features of a stock appearence and it seems that to fit the downpipes requires eninge removal from what i've been told?

john banks 11 November 2010 12:29 PM

I would go for a custom tune with just the Y-pipe, most find it just right. Downpipes don't need engine removal, but can take all day to do, and they can be quite noisy. You do gain some spool up though, but the GTR is hardly lacking in low down torque especially with that gearbox.

If you were doing downpipes, I would also consider injectors and intakes to make the most of them. If you do downpipes without injectors, often we have to hold things back a bit on top end boost to stop them running out of injector.

So Y-pipe and custom tune are very Goldilocks.

Custom tune just purchased through Ben @ GTC :D

That is absolutely mind blowing performance... and even relatively standard examples are putting in severely serious times.

Cheers,

gosh 1000 on standard blowers...what do you think it will make you you put your proper blowers on?

john banks 14 November 2010 04:54 PM

Not standard blowers they top out at about 600.

furry muff my misunderstanding, what were you referring to in your earlier post and different turbos or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

john banks 14 November 2010 08:27 PM

Mentioned a few different cars in this thread, not just one. Std car remapped does about 11.0, fastest on stock turbos 10.1, fastest with built engine and upgraded turbos 9.1 IIRC.

john banks 17 December 2010 10:25 PM

1118 WHP

fairly quick then!!

john banks 17 December 2010 10:32 PM

It could an no doubt will rev higher to give a wider power band. This is a 4.0 with extra bore but stock stroke. The 4.2s going to 8000+ RPM will be interesting, but to me it is all overkill because of traction problems.

Yes I believe so, there are threads about doing cross country road trips in some of the AMS development cars. However, that level of power and torque would need tyres which may not be legal in Europe, in the US they have some road legal drag radial options.

beef-on-the-bone 20 December 2010 10:13 AM

what's the widest wheel tyre being run to put that down??? without resorting to tubbing the rear or kits.........

billythekid 20 December 2010 10:19 AM

Amazing. Considering used cars are dipping under 40k now its got to be one of the best VFM cars out there. What are they stock, 500ish bhp?

Such a shame that its not a hatch back as I would like one but need to fit my dog in the back.

Shoot old Yellar I say....

john banks 20 December 2010 01:06 PM

Probably 315 on 18" wheels.

It is, but on these dynos a stock GTR would do about 430 or 440 WHP. Even if it is 1100 BHP flywheel it is still 600 more than the stock car.

MMT WRX 20 December 2010 10:39 PM

John, do you have any knowledge/experience of the Link G4 ecu?

I've just bought an R33 Skyline GT R that's had a forged rebuild at Risingsun Performance but is still on the stock ecu. The G4 seems to get good write ups on the Skyline forums or can you recommend anything else?
Tia

john banks 20 December 2010 10:55 PM

No idea about the R33, sorry. Post on gtr.co.uk
