I'll add my 2 cents and say 'd choose a P1, as I think they look that bit nicer, although I'd only buy one that's had the engine rebuild by subaru. Didn't they replace the bottom end with a type R one in the rebuild?
|
Engines were the same so it didnt matter what bottom end they used.

Tony, when I work out how to post up video clips, I will post it on here,it was Vikki butler Henderson driving the type r and she raced a escort cosworth. Not doubting what you say, but having owned a M.A.Developments cosworth in the past , they were extremley rapid cars.
The type r concerned has it's own website and was for sale on eBay about 4 years quoting 305 bhp,and was known as the impreza that beat the best cosworth in the land. I still have the reg no of this car and was outbid by £75.00 and am still gutted 4 years later. You may well be right as to the power that it can possibly produce , will post video clip as soon as I find my old VHS video recorder . this is the clip here YouTube - Jeremy Clarkson - Subaru vs Cosworth |

It must be down to the peole who have owned the car then tony , as I don't understand how the sti engine is suppose to have stronger internals than the std uk unit, when my MY 99 uk wagon has done 135k, does not loose/use a drop of oil/ water and after the recent remap is producing more power than a std sti and honestly the car now drives like it was built yesterday. I seem to remember that the sti featured in the video clip above had had an engine rebuild when I was considering buying it, and it sold for around £6700 5 years ago.
|
Just been lookin at some p1's, pricers vary from around 5k to 10k
|
Yeah I did notice the price has dropped. A year ago you'd pay £7000 for a dog. Now there's a handful at that price...and a handfull at £12,000!!
|
Well i was looking in to getting my next scoob very soon, been a type R or p1. But now i think i may look towards a p1, just me but i think they look that bit better.
|
Type R all the way. :luxhello:
|
what about insurance thow are they both group 20s
and the p1 has a rear wiper aswell from the pics ive seen |
Insurance dont matter only paying £369 or is it £359 unprotected £430 protected, i'm old now though 31 next.
|
haha fair play im also looking to get either a p1 or type r just carnt decide but think it will be a p1 if the insurance is alot more for the type r as im only 21 and gary at k.m qouted me 3000 for a p1 :)
|
I had this dilema over a year ago now, either of these cars will make you happy.Down to personal preference for which one you choose.
I chose the type r and lovin every minute,it would be the same if it were a p1. Deciding factor for me was the dccd and how clean underneath an import is,no rust at all. |

Tony:) Not 100% sure but i thought they were only produced in version 3 and 4 models.... Pretty sure ive never seen a version 5/6 wrx type r |
Dont think they did the 97 cars, they did the wrx type r v ltd in 98, the 99/00 cars were just type r ltds.
Tony:) |
A slightly modified one (dont all come with the high level spoiler as standard) but they look like this, think they have the crap 2 pot brakes as standard though :( otherwise its blue ;):D
Subaru : SUBARU IMPREZA WRX TYPE R (STI) Tony:) |
just got a qoute on a type r (sti) told them im already 22 and it was £3400 f/c 1 yrs ncb and parents as named drivers but yet if i was 21 they wouldnt touch me lol work that out
and it was cheaper than a p1 at 22 they want 3700 |

Subaru : SUBARU IMPREZA WRX TYPE R (STI) Tony:) silly question but wat is the differance between a red inlet and normall if both cars have the same power lol |
Chris you are now probably totally confused  I have driven both and advise you to before you buy.
If you drove a good type R & a good P1 and could afford either I would be amazed in you had the Type R :) Try it ! |

Tony:) Your quite right Tony........just checked and there was no version 3 wrx type r.:) But no version 6 car according to Subaru japan..http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/product/impreza/list.html Not sure i have ever seen a version 5 wrx type r limited (non sti) they must be rare as hens teeth!!! |
I would buy an STI Ver.VI Type R or P1, I had an STI MY06 but I would buy a Classic Impreza again.
