I'd rather prefer the new M3. The sensations at the steering wheel are triplicated!

Gentlemen, I am sorry to dissapoint you but as the owner of an STi 7, and someone who has driven hundreds of miles (including lots on Cumbrian Fell roads)in several RS4's, they go (380bhp / 380 lbs/ft torque)and stop (6 pots with 14" - yes fourteen inch!! discs), and no you wouldn't loose one on tight and twisty stuff, because just like the STi 7 they have 3 diffs, front centre and rear,so turn in and traction are awesome. Whilst Tiff nice but dim complained of understeer the limit is so high you are never going to exceed them on the road only on a race track.

I can vouch for JGriff on that as I thought I might see him drop back on the twisites but he didn't slow what so ever! I was shocked to see the power this animal has

It is pretty obvious to me that you did not drive the RS4 to the limit. Having driven one, I can tell you that it understeers a bit and that the brakes are shït. If you only drift and powerslide your car on trackdays, you are being very careful (good), but not in a position to judge a car on the limit. |
Changes in direction for a rs4 in twisty roads are much slower. Secondly try it downhill on italian/french alps: after 3 hard brakings your pedal is inside the engine bay! It's a fast all rounder but not a race car, whereas an impreza was developed for that purpose and with two marginal modifications can keep up in the above mentioned conditions.

Disco whom posts on here has a new Rs4. Very nice indeed.:)
|
RS4 has a Cosworth developed 2.7 V6 twin turbo giving 380ps as standard. Top whack is 155mph limited, 0-60 is approx 4.7secs.The engine is derived from the S4 engine, but is substanially different, forged pistons, different camshafts etc etc.
RS6 is the new beast coming out as either saloon or estate, 4.2 V8 twin turbo, 450bhp with 5-speed automatic gearbox. Again 155mph limited and 0-60 4.9secs. Price will be about 52k. |
You should have allowed him to follow you over a cobbled street, that would have buckled his alloys :D (Did anyone else read about how they had to recall them because of soft alloy wheels not designed for British pot holed roads ?)
Ha ha RS4 maybe fast but its designed for the German autobahns ;) |
it's a dragster.
Beside between an RS4 and an M3 , i would buy the BMW without even thinking. C. |
I've seen an RS4 and the brakes are massive with multi pot calipers-I know they're heavy but they look like they're more than up to the job.Re they based on the 2.8tt or the 4.2?
|
Why can't you impreza boys ever acknowledge that an other marque/car might just be better that a scooby? It made me laugh initially to forever be reading "but what about in the twisties..blah blah blah.." every time a patently faster machine is discussed, now it just bores and irritates.
Scoobies are good but there are plenty faster - and the RS4 (and even the old RS2) is certianly one of them. |
Bin Laden, its a discussion m8 and everyone is welcome to their opinions, plenty on here have said don't even think about having a go at one, and after last night I know exactly how good they are. Stop getting the ump and let people have their own views, if you don't like them then don't read the rest of the thread! I can say whatever I want about another car, doesn't automatically make me right tho, just let people have their views.

Claudius, any (and I mean any) ROAD car will have torched brakes after a couple of laps of a circuit, yes the RS4 will understeer in extremis - as I said, but no the brakes are not s***e they are very good, however there are a number of upgrades available, including ceramic rotors, and these don't fade in any circumstances. That would include something like driving down the Stelvio. The RS4 is a big heavy car, and does not change direction like the STi, but if you gave me the choice between an RS4 and an M3, then the RS would be my choice. Round a circuit the M3 would be quicker, but dial in, dark night, bad road surface, wet surface, unknown road, then the M3 wouldn't know which way the RS had gone. That said the RS would also be loosing ground to the STi
|
I'll put you all at ease! The next time the RS4 slinks past you just think 'mate, I'm still close enough to read your number plate and my car costs half yours'. What I'm getting at here is you are trying to pit a £20k car against one that costs twice as much!! If you'd been gubbed by a £100k Ferrari you wouldn't have bothered to start this topic - its expected. To a degree you get what you pay for, it just happens that owners of VTS's (£10,800 new), Impreza's and TVR Cerbera's get more than they payed for. My VTS can piss on V6 cars costs costing 250% more!
|
J,
Have you really driven the RS4? Anything fades. |
I have just driven 2 RS4's today and its goodbye to the P1 and the Legacy as its the best of both worlds.
|
Claudius, Gza who sometimes inhabits this bbs was my victim / passenger on one occasion, and thecirsch certainly has seen me in a number of RS4's. Ceramic rotors came from sports car racing there temperature tolerance is incredible as is the resistance to fade

380bhp, admittedly it did understeer in tight corners, but the brakes were awesome (compared to my Scoob at least) and deresticted it will hit 180mph:eek: As good as a v quick Scoob to 60, then it really comes into its own after that!!! |
These are the ducks nuts - and common as mud (well rain) here in münchen. As are porche, bmw, mercedes etc... All VERY nice cars, and the RS4, running on 18" is perrrrrfect. Very large brakes too.
Ummmm RS4 .... <dribbles over chair and table> :D |
The S4 was given to Cosworth for development and they gave Audi back the RS4 with around 50% more power and torque  Still think you'd be surprised how close it would stick to you lot on "the twisties" |
My VTS can piss on V6 cars costs costing 250% more Either way lets hear what makes your VTS special then. |
Against something like a V6 Vectra or Mondeo it's a wee fright for them to 60 as the light saxo lays down the law and then pretty much even from there on it till it becomes silly. What's special about it is the look on their faces (other driver) when you get to 70mph and the saxo doesn't fall away as they expected.
Add twisties and the VTS would be off into the horizon against the afore mentioned rep toys. I don't want to blow smoke up the VTS's ass but what impresses me is the bangs for buck factor. Anyone wearing their sensible hat would have to say that an Impreza is not worth twice as much a VTS - good thing we have desires then ;) |
what a sad little boy you are
|
Better than an old fart!! Read the insurance threads and you'll see half the people on here are aged 20-25 (I'm 23)! If you don't have anything constructive to say then clear off! I'm only putting down my opinion's based on my experiences and am trying hard not to insult or slag anyone....Till now.......you D**K
|
First time I've been called old and the first insult has come from you....oh yeah don't you actually call yourself a BOY.....get a life
|
Now play nicely children, or start your own fekin thread!!!

Bravo has a point, this is going nowhere! As a point of interest, I chose the login name Kenny M (as with scoobycity) but I put my work email address and it sent my password there so I couldn't log in straight away cause I was at home. Saxo Boy was the first thing that came into my head after that. I'll revert to Kenny M when I get the scooby.
No hard feelings. Off to wash the car now! |
To bring it back to this thread I saw a lovely RS4 slinking it's way through the traffic in Edinburgh the other day. Just about put the Saxo up the kerb turning to watch it! Sweet!
|
All toys are back in the pram now,RS4 cometh soon..
|
RS4's are great cars. When you see them in the flesh they really look sublime! I had a video from someone on Audiworld of an RS4 vs a Ferrari 360 on a 400m meter stretch and the RS4 was actually faster.
I just can't believe Audi didn't make this beaut as a saloon. It would have been something special! :) |
