its all fixed up now, i had it beadblasted as well.
this has giving it a matt finish, but also showen up holes/marks in the casting on the inlet manifold. i could try and sand it back more in the places where the small holes are or...?? think it could do with some smoothing down on the weilds. what do you recomend? soz for the pics were taken on phone http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...ownload1-1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...ownload1-2.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...edownload1.jpg |
looks very clean...I'd be well pleased with that :)
|
That has turned out pretty good it takes a lot of effort to get it to that stage :thumb:. Some pics of mine fitted. I cant take the credit foor the work though I only fitted it.

in the castings there are some small holes in it, i could keep snading them down to make them smooth but risk making a hole in it again, or what else could i do?
would you notice these when its polished up? if i used a wire wheel on the drill will this cover the holes? |
|
you will be hard pressed to spot them once its in place I'd say :)
|
looks great, good effort and all that but i couldnt be bothered, not when theres a guy on ebay who will do it for £150 on an exchange basis and it comes back plated
|
You'll never lose the holes im afraid mate. That porosity in the casting.
|
If you'll never loose them I'd be tempted to crinkle black it or fill them, give it a coat of high build primer and get it sprayed body colour. :thumb:

Have been out today for another hour and i have managed to sand away most of the hole marks where you would be able to see them when its fitted.
i was using a 80 and 120 grit sanding sponge. i also done abit of blending in of thw weilds, but a little bit more to do there http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...d/PICT0034.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...d/PICT0035.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...d/PICT0036.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...d/PICT0037.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...d/PICT0038.jpg starting to look abit better |

I have given up on the polished inlet manifold for now as dont like the look of the pin size holes in it from the casting :(
anyway i am thinking about powder coating it instead. i am also thinking about moving the coil pack to just under where the bov is to try and give a smooth look, bad idea? this is how the bay looks at the mo, but i still feel that it needs something else, to make it look better? all ideas welcome http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...b/IMG_0453.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...b/IMG_0454.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...b/IMG_0455.jpg |
powder coating the inlet is a lot less work.....

how about reducing the amount of colours in the bay? the mix of yellow, red, blue, black, chrome, grey (and is that a green wire I spot at the back as well) is a bit fussy, could just be me though :)

lol, could be my computer colours - look at clutch reservoir.
My opinion on colours sucks anyway, I drive a bright blue car with gold wheels and pink stickers ;) |

yup there is a green wire at the back, but there is not alot i can do about that as its the dual charge temp gauge one.
|
Can you not heat shrink it?
|
if you really want the crome polished look but want powder coating then why dont you get it powder coated in crome it looks pretty good and you wont have the problem of having to keep polishing it either
|

I wasn't sure if anyone had done it like this before? what colour powder coat do you think, half thinks keep it black like it is now, and the other half thinks red but got a feeling that it might look out of place?? |
You now can get the "Crinkle Red" in powder coat.
