I must say its quite shocking reading the stories about members being ripped off.

I have a suggestion for the admin;

I run the 306 owners club forums and we had a similar problem, so I implemented a pay as you sell scheme.
Basically if you want to sell anything on the forums you have to pay £1.50 for the privilidge (not every time, just a 1 off fee). That way, paypal details (including addresses and phone numbers) are stored in the club database and anyone who reports a problem can have access to it.
Suffice to say we have had zero problems since I introduced it and thats not bad going for a forum with 20,000+ members!

Guys,

My blood is boiling for you at the thought of what this scum has done to you.

Quick bit of advice though, do you really believe the address he has given is a genuine one?

I would hate to see a small squad of you out of pocket on expenses to get there to find out it is some old dears place.

How about a forum member who already lives there does a quick recce for you, actually knocks the door and ask's if numb nuts lives there, if he does great round up the troops and go over.

Sorry to sound negative but i doubt very much he lives at the address he has given, not unless he is really thick.

Would hate to see you guys more out of pocket, have a think about it.......

Regards

ScottyB

dilbob 20 August 2009 09:54 AM

moral off the story is dont buy nothing you cant collect in person... cant get stung then or try to get another member (well known) to collect on your behalf

need4speeduk 20 August 2009 09:57 AM

you have a point scotty.

anyone live on the isle of white that can do a quick check. as scotty says, dont wanna knock a door and give some old dear a cardiac arrest :)

There is only one problem with that, its called data protection ;)

Its not really the admins problem, trade on the site is done at the buyers own risk... Should always pay with things like paypal, where you can then get your money back if a problem occurs... for those sending cheques, you can go into your bank and say you have not received anything, and they MAY be able to do something about it.

Althought it is **** that things like this happen, especially on a nice club like this, but you'll always get people who will take advantage of places like this as it can be easy money. Should always ask for pictures of goods before hand, to make sure they are actually real (i sometimes ask for pictures with a peice of paper with their username on to make 100% sure they have the goods)

Get a phone number from them before you send money, and give them a ring, to make sure its actually them... I always give out my phone number when selling things, that way the buyer can call/txt me if they want.

Always pay with paypal, never send a cheque unless you know they are genuine.

If they are local, meet up with them for the transaction, with cash in hand... I never take a deposit if i have the other persons contact details, and make it 100% clear that i'll be there for the transaction.

need4speeduk 20 August 2009 10:22 AM

having been scammed along with 2 others on ebay i can tell you from experience, paypal is about as protective as a condom with holes in it.

i did get the guys number before i sent the deposit andi usually ask for an address too, just in case.

saying that, there's things in life called trust and decency, something we all have an obligation too when we enter into these transactions.

its a sad reflection on the times we live in when there are people who take advantage of others good will and trust just because they think their safe behind a pc screen.

SteveRattue 20 August 2009 10:28 AM

If you guys want to share the cost of the ferry i will go over there and get your cash back, or tow his car back over here for breaking :)

Jamz_ 20 August 2009 10:32 AM

I found if you call Paypal up they respond better then using their online dispute form.

Its a true fact that some sick people out there do take advantage of places like this, and make it had for everyone else who is a legit person trying to sell their goods (like myself)

I do find though, the Trader Score on these types of sites also help, but when there are new people coming on the forum saying they are selling things, its where it becomes tricky.

steve if you could help in any way at all mate that would be great.

i'm sure between the 4 or 5 of us that seem to have been ripped we could sort out the ferry costs and a drink for you, even if its just out of principle.

kinda goes against the grain if you know what i mean.

mslorach 20 August 2009 11:34 AM

Sorry to hear about this guys, another rip off merchant spoiling it for everyone.
Good luck with your trip, it's about time someone like that received a bit of "karma"

DJ ATOMIC 20 August 2009 01:52 PM

Hi guys I feel for the people that have shelled out money.. it would be nice to think that people can be trusted.. from an experiance that happened to me a few years ago (spoiler stolen off my car then put up for sale on Ebay) The police can get all the information on people that use paypal and Ebay. They did it for me and another guy that had the same happen by the same crook and the guy got done for it and I got my £1500 for my spoiler.. I am noticing that allot of young chav's are driving scooby's now there cheap as chips.. just watch out who you deal with.. ask for a phone number and address before paying and ring them before paying and tell them that if the goods do not turn up then police will be told, get pictures off them of the goods your paying for and allways pay via bank transfer not Paypal, that way you can get the money ripped out of there account by your bank if you dont get the goods. They will also know that all there information is included as it's there bank details!

I hope it all works out for you guys...

NITIN HALAI 20 August 2009 02:23 PM

hey there guys i had a problem with a bloke on here called andijones i bought a roof scoop from him for 70 pounds an never saw it he kept on saying he's sent it but couldn't provide no postal info i requested a refund which he never gave so i went back to paypal on opened a dispute an they gave me back 5 pounds backa an said thats all he had in his paypal so im 65 pounds out of pocket still so be careful of him andijones

good luck chaps

Myles 20 August 2009 02:47 PM

Cheques are the way forward. At least you get some kind of address, or the bank can trace where it goes(Id have thought). Or cash in hand. At least then the seller is within punching distance.

Disclaimer: Not to say that either method of payment doesn't have its drawbacks, rip-off merchants are very crafty.

I hope you guys get at least your money back, or perhaps a necklace with some ears and testes on it.

need4speeduk 20 August 2009 04:13 PM

ok, just been in touch with paypal and they are gonna start the process for fraudulent activity.

also been advised to contact the police who can obtain all account and address details.

also on checking my paypal account, this guys name is SIMON OVERTON so obviously not steve.

i'm guessing chaps the address given is also bogus so taking a trip to the isle of white would probably be a waste of time and money. he has also stopped recieving messages on here.

i say f**k it fella's, forget trying to sort this ourselves, cos realistically it aint gonna happen.

lets just all get in touch (already spoken on the phone to ricky & jamie) and make a joint complaint to the police and let them deal with it. at least this way SIMON OVERTON will get whats coming to him.

what do you think chaps? i'm going down the cop shop tomorrow and getting this ball rolling.

SteveRattue 20 August 2009 04:15 PM

Simon Overton - Leeds | Facebook

SteveRattue 20 August 2009 04:17 PM

Scrub that there about 10 lol

Myles 20 August 2009 04:42 PM

You can narrow it down, what do we know about him? Not his address or even the area he lives in, but we know he drives a Subaru. Now if 10 people befriend the 10x Simon Overtons, Im sure some intelligence work can weedle out the rotten apple. Then make the necklace......

need4speeduk 20 August 2009 05:04 PM

this is the email address shown on his paypal account: ohfor4ucksake@hotmail.com

obviously i've sent him a very polite and friendly email :hjtwofing

one or two of you have friends/family in the force... any chance of getting a search done on simon overton, see if there's one with a scooby, take it from there.

Alteredbeast 20 August 2009 05:17 PM

A mate of mine got ripped off by another member on a different forum for about 2k.he soon got it all sorted out,i heard that he had hired a gang of armed triads to visit his house

coops1 20 August 2009 07:12 PM

Right I have logged my complaint with paypal against him now and going to the cop-shop in an hr or so..

coops1 20 August 2009 08:25 PM

I think this is him. He has a friend called Steve which is the name he was using and he if from midlands (where the fake phone number came from). I so want to send him a message on there!!
