Became a fan through the WRC. Used to go to watch the British WRC when it was held at Chatsworth as it's not far from where I grew up. Loved the Escort's, then the Quattro when that came along, and then finally the Scooby when Subaru joined. Love the whole Scooby package, from the looks, the unique exhaust note (why folk have to make this as loud as possible is beyond me) and the way it's had the same (ish) factory colours all these years.
Popped my cherry in 2004 when I took an STi out for a test drive and was immediately hooked. Bought it there and then and nothing else will do since :thumb: P.S. I would still love to own a Quattro at some point :-) |

You must have your dtes mixed up- they were only built in 2000..... Was getting into Rallying etc. at the same time as McRae was winning the World Championship, the noise and the fact they were almost stealth machines when they first came across. Nobody had really seen anything like it...... |

RS500:norty: I was always into WRC. I loved the Lancia Delta with the martini livery. Then the Audi Quattro. When the Subaru hit the scene, it was the first real car that on the road was just like the WRC version to me anyway. The old excorts (mexico and RS2000) were a bit before my time. |
well ive always been car mad started about the age of 25 though actually buying sporty cars first being an 87 scirocco just loved the shape then on to the mk3 supra had 3 of them always had rust issues then a mazda rx7 worst mistake went up in flames 3 days after i bought it then on to a honda prelude really liked it but not enough room for kids etc i never really thought about a scooby loved the noise but just thought they were everywhere and wanted something different looked at buying a mitsubishi legnum as i liked the practical side but wasnt keen on the tiptronic gearbox then seen the legacy gtb twin turbo estate and thought thats nice then the saloon just popped up and it was only 50 miles up the road from me usually cars i liked were 350 miles away so took the plunge and its the best decision ive made its still a scooby but different at the same time.

I was (and still am!) a big fan of rallying when I was a kid and, although I wasn't quite so interested in the individual drivers back then, I distinctly remember being awestruck by the sight and sound of a blue Impreza being thrown around by some bloke called McRae...
A year or so later, I brought Gran Turismo for the Playstation and, having, discovered the 22B, I vowed that, one day, I'd have an Impreza of my own! All being well with finances, I'm hoping that day will arrive in April of this year; its only taken me 10 years to get there... |
i have to say the sound too but i didn't really like them till i got mine and now i am hooked and so is my husband he is now looking at buying one next week :)

I was about 17 at the time, and I liked the car through watching rallying and playing Rallying Games on PS1. One evening a bloke turned up in a Blue Impreza and from A magazine I asked him if it was the Turbo 2000, He said no its A Impreza and I was on about a ford.
So from then on I always sought of wanted one but at the time I was working at Safeways and would never afford one. I joined the army and ended up buying a Honda Prelude had it for 4 years. I had a crash in it before I went to Afghan and when six months Later I brought the one I have now. I love it the noise, performance, Handling and its practical. I nearly had to sell her when I was on dole but I just managed to get a bus driving job so I've kept her. She is letting a bit of rust on her rear arch but I'm going to get it waxoiled and welded. |
I was about 9 or 10 and happened to flick onto the rallying, just watched it with intrest really, didnt have a favorite car, but it was when colin mc'rae was ruling the stage consistantly, and i loved the rumble and the big scoop on the front, it always seemed a little different.
I told my dad i would have one by the time i was 25, i got an M reg classic when i was 20, and swapped to the MY03 blobye last month at 22. Im not intrested in another car, but i want a capri or an '86RS2000 to have a play in! |
my mate bought a bugeye wrx wagon and i had my mk3 golf gti and after being in his scoob it seemed so much more of an adrenaline rush that i had to ditch the golf but not being a fan of the looks of a bugeye i opted for the infamous impreza classic and since then i havent been out in it without having a smile on my face lol

When I was 19 I had a 106 GTi and I started to spend quite a bit of money on it, It was when I was talking to my dad about having Throttle Bodies on my 106 gti and told him how much it would cost, he turned to me and said "you might as well go out and buy an Impreza for what your going to spend on that little French crap"
The next day the 106 Gti was for sale and a week later I had my 1st scooby a MY00 DBM Turbo 2000, So it was my dad who talked me into having a scooby and it was the best advice he has ever given me!!!!:thumb: |
Gotta be when I was around 14, so 11 years ago. It was a terrible wait. Colin on the tv, Colin McRae rally on games console each year, spotting the scoob rumble from literally a mile off. First rode in a friend's one at 17 (he's managed to write 3 off and went through a similar number of boxes - he had close to 500bhp and a 6 speed conversion was over £5,000 then). Then went off to uni for 4 years with faint rumbles around Reading. Richard Burns passed. Colin McRae passed. Each adding to the need.
Then my mate bought a wagon to be practical with his drum kit! How dare he!? LOL. Then at 23 years old after 6 months of searching, I picked up my then low mileage JDM bug STI! Never looked back, except to see my friend's scoob get smaller in my rear view and for little while that night when I couldn't sleep!! |
me ? I worked at a petrol station during my A - levels and the car dealership was a Subaru franchise, back then it was sturdy agricultural vehicles and an SVX or Leggy on the side.
Read CAR magazine, bought for the Maclaren, but the Scooby wagon was also in, and they said it was quicker than the Lancia Delta and the Escort Cossie ! So I waited till '97 and bought a Catalunya ( No. 141. ) which I chopped in for my 2002 bug-eye STI (only because they gave me a stoopidly high trade-in value !) So a life long rally fan, it was an easy choice ! dunx |

Word on the street was Subaru's....so tested a 2000 X plater 7 years ago and thought wow....and couldn't stop grinning. Needles to say bought my first of 7 Scoobyz.

When I was 21 in 2005 and had started my driving lessons (late developer), I was looking for a car around £2500 fow which insurance wasn't mental.
Found I could get insured on an Impreza Sport for £1500 as soon as I passed my test. Looked around the net, found a mint white Sport in Sheffield. Went, dealer let me drive it on some private roads and I was smitten. 125bhp admittedly, but it had a full exhaust and sounded the bollocks to a learner driver like me. A week later I bought it after a meeting with the bank manager :D (mate drove it home for me and I parked her up until March 2006 when I passed my test). Best feeling ever when the examiner said "you've passed", knowing I had a Impreza as my first car - even the baby one :lol1: |
First got interested in early/mid 90's when watching WRC on television - the Colin McRae classic years - wanted one as I like the old fashioned saloon look(still had the Truimph Acclaim then) - in 1999 toyed with idea of classic wagon but was looking for the max practicality and load space so opted for Primera SRi which was a good accomplished nice driving workhorse and powerful enough in a conventional sense, but I was always thinking 'I wish I had got an Impreza'. Finally took one out for a test drive Feb 2004 and got a WR Blue bugeye saloon which I have still got - it's still bog standard mechanically and with only minor subtle cosmetic touches. Love the bugeye and planning to keep it for as long as possible - will upgrade when bits such as exhaust start to need replacement etc. - ..mind you, I also would not mind a 2.5 Hawkeye with PPP... or JDM.

Never really been a fan of scoobys, But since i seen a WR1 i know i had to have one, And from yesterday am now a proud owner of a WR1, love the colour of the WR1,

first testdrove an import wrx in 1999 it was an L reg one from midgley motors near skipton if anyone remembers that place ,but i didnt end up getting that i ended up with a gtir pulsar :freak3: ,which was very :norty: but very ugly :lol1: .
i always knew i'd end up in a scoob so when we had our 2nd daughter i said we need a bigger boot so i went out that day and bought a blobeye wrx but now they are growing up a wee bit 2 and 7 they dont need a pram so i need more power :norty: so bring on the next :thumb: |
Like many, it seems, I just loved the sound of the flat four in the forest!
The Legacy was a bit plain-looking, but when the WRX first came to Wales - well, it looked very different at that time. Up to that point, I had liked Lancias and Cosworths, but the addition of Colin in a Subaru tipped the balance. It wasn't until 1999 that I sat in a friend's WRX and had a ride, and then I just had to get one! I was looking to replace my (t)rusty Mk2 Astra at that time, and decided to get an import as they were cheeper, but also better spec'd. In January 2000, my MY93 WRX landed in the UK.....and I still have the same car 9 years later. :D |
Loved the impreza since i was 10, had two older brothers into cars which in turn got me interested in them!

I test drove a UK Impreza in 1994 but it was either all or nothing in the power stakes. Bought a Celica instead! Then in 1997 I test drove a facelift with a far better map for the power and I was hooked so bought a brand new Catalunya (No.100 as it happened) The only way forwards was to buy a P1 in 2000. never test drove one but I knew it would be the dogs danglies. From there I bought a full spec Group N Impreza which felt slower than the P1 but came alive in the forests on gravel stages. Now i have a V5 STI RA which is very raw compared to the P1.
And all this from a certain C.Mcrae MBE in the welsh forests and the original Group A Impreza. The exhaust note of the original 555 Impreza still haunts me 15 years later. For me there is simply no better sound in the world. :D Some lesser mortals just don't understand... Cheers Rob |
What caught my eye with Subaru has to be the Legacy, in Rothmans fag livery being blatted around a rally stage. The year was 1991/2. :cool:
For that reason, I still hanker after a Legacy Turbo...Imprezas were always second best. What made me notice the Impreza? Well, I saw my Impreza Turbo on the forecourt of a Citroen garage and thought "why the hell does that Toyota Corolla have big fog lamps and a bonnet scoop?" So, intrigued, I took a closer look :D True Story BTW :) |
