Then why do people like Clarkson, Plato etc on the motoring programmes complain about too much body roll upsetting handling? No I'm not being sarcastic, it's a genuine question!

...and did you ever find one ;) :lol1: :thumb: ARB's transform a cars handling mate as will coil overs, but ARB upgrades are so not a waste of money :) |

well reviewers don't like roll because it means weight is being transfered away from one side of the car which then means less grip and traction and upsets the speed in and out of corners... I've got an 08 STI so am familiar with some roll, looking to dial it out with some uprated arb's and improved bushing to take away the stodgy feeling it has sometimes.

I take it you mean front/back not side, different holes on the same axle?
they don't just have 3 different adjustments you know ;) you can have "in betweens" as well |
But wouldn't that make the car act differentely going left or right?
|
No ! Beacause an ARB is just a dumb piece of metal, you feed force into each end, and the bar twists to counteract the load of the rolling bodyshell.
A stiffer bar equals less roll.... Having said that I would tend to stiffen the passenger side first for a clockwise circuit, just to be safe ! LOL DunxC |
You learn something every day!!
|
A stiffer rear bar will take some loading off the front wheels during cornering, letting the front do the important steering bit better.
A stiffer bar will effectively 'join' the suspension springs on the axle more, increasing the effective rate of the loaded up spring in a corner. Thats how I understand it. dipster |
