With 300bhp through the front wheels I will expect one of these to hit a tree every other week. Shame AWD and I would have bought one... in fact over the MY08 I may take my chances with the tree.

:D :D ;)

Janspeed 04 July 2008 06:54 PM

The chassis cannot take the rear diff and all the other AWD parts, it would have to be extensively modified, and as ford is absolutely useless at containing costs and sticking to schedules, it would never happen, as it has never happened and will not! :lol1: :lol1:

Mean looking, and I would buy one if it were 4wd but it aint so I wont! :hjtwofing

You forget it has to go through the first few mms of rubber..........then actually grip something etc etc etc........

More pics and info here Ford Focus RS - First Look - Sky Motoring

can't see it outselling the Sti unless its cheaper

Janspeed 04 July 2008 07:16 PM

"Jost Capito, Ford of Europe’s Director of Performance Vehicles, initially considered a rally-inspired four-wheel drivetrain, but decided it would make the car too heavy and too costly."

Just shows that they dont have a clue.......................they could buy off Subaru! :lol1:

trevsjwood 04 July 2008 08:17 PM

is that a mustache on the front?

SqeekyMclean 04 July 2008 08:33 PM

Wish they bring back the Cosworth.

Those damn Cosworth blocks are still going strong in the old fords.

jayb1970 04 July 2008 08:37 PM

Torque steer anyone.

That said I do like it in white.

M535I 04 July 2008 08:43 PM

300bhp scooby see you at the lights ..........5k launch in 4x4 bye bye rs .

nik52wrx 04 July 2008 09:12 PM

According to the artical price is expected to be just under 25K.
I think will out sell the STI on looks alone.
Nik.

Looks OK but not convinced it will perform as well as a 4WD Sti

IMO that's how the new MY08STi should've looked.

totally agree with this man!:)

Mikkel 04 July 2008 10:18 PM

Could you imagine that with AWD and the scooby burble... I'd sell me old Mum for one :lol1:

martwrxsl 04 July 2008 10:24 PM

The looks are the only good thing about the car. It will have 280bhp NOT 300bhp. My my03 wrx will still beat it, can't wait to meet one wet or dry and embarass the proud new owner. pmsl

When are ford going to learn that you can't put over 250bhp through the front wheels?

And the weight of this thing will be a lard arse too. pmsl

Again like I said, Ford dont have a clue!

Some of the stories that I have from their engineering department in the UK and throughout europe would make you cringe!

I know most of the powertrain engineers at ford because I have worked with them. The only reason that this car is not 4wd was because of cost. They know from an engineering point of view it was the wrong thing to do, but they were told to make do with what they have got.

Can't wait for all the people who know fuk all about cars like JC of top gear, fifth gear to give it rave reviews because Ford pay them to do it. Remember the past Focus RS with just over 200bhp. Torque steered to death.

They will sell loads of these cars because the people who buy them don't have a clue.

Mikkel 04 July 2008 11:59 PM

Come on though lads, no matter how much youy knock it for what are very reasonable arguments the fact remains it is blummin gorgeous and looks the part. Once rolling and in a straight line it will be devastating too.

Good posers/traffic light grand prix mobile.

Monkeydile 05 July 2008 12:10 AM

Defo looks mean but FWD is gonna be it's downfall. I can understand Fords argument about not going AWD due to weight as the ST suffers really badly with the big heavy Volvo engine.

I'm willing to bet a 15 year old Escort Cossie would still beat it :D

That is why ford will sell them mate end of. They look fantastic, I agree. I'd love to see the old focus rs vs new focus rs timed around a track. I hate the new sti but it went around the topgear test track in 1.28! Wonder what the new focus rs will do?

Yeah, only if it had the same power :lol1:

martwrxsl 05 July 2008 12:23 AM

Ford Focus ST 1.34.9, Ford Focus RS 1.32.2 around top gear track. The new one will be interesting I can't wait!

SSCJAY 05 July 2008 12:29 AM

I wish they'd let, Zen & the Gobstopper round their track see what a real scoob could do, I'm thinking top 10 ???

An escort cosworth would destroy any focus rs, st. Cosworth class , Ford cost saving. Cosworth engines are one of the best in the world!

Agree, the Cossie may have less power but it was AWD and also a lighter car. IIRC it also did a sub 6 second 0-60 just like this new RS is supposed to be able to. Then in the twisty's the Cossie would wipe the floor with the RS

True, but your always going to stuggle with only 220 BHP.

nik52wrx 05 July 2008 08:29 AM

One more point in its favour is its likely to have good residuals as do other RS models, something the Subaru will struggle to match.
Nik.

beal 05 July 2008 08:42 AM

Lets be honest, its only two wheel drive but with it being newly developed and having 280bhp it should be well good enough for a road car.

How are they copying the Evo looks?, the Focus has been in production longer than the new Evo design has been in the public eye, and thats including the concept stage.

If Ford sticking wider arches and a different grill on there car it makes it similar to the Evo is that a bad thing?

I'd have one, and in green. That is of course until Clarkson gives it a new 'ASBO' tag then all the chavs will have them with ASBO badges on the boot like they did with the orange ST.
