chopski, I started the thread to maybe kick off brain cells to think that bragging of road racing, speeding and being an arse could land you in hot water.

I am no lawyer, but...

It seems unclear as to whether or not something could stick, but evidence such as the thread originally linked to could maybe be used against you, particularly as supporting evidence in a dangerous driving case or something like that.

DaveW: the thread that StuartH was referring to wasn't yours but the one on the RS thread, if I read it correctly. I'd be on the throttle rather keenly just for a giggle if a diablo was around. Up to appropriate speeds.

In summary, it all seems a little unclear.

Cheers for the input.

GranTurismo 08 December 2000 09:25 AM

In response to the other line of discussion.

I was successfull in discovering the identity of Boomer and his personal details.

So it Can be done.

Stuart H 08 December 2000 09:52 AM

It would appear the original thread has been deleted by the RSOC administrators and

Mungo 08 December 2000 11:33 AM

As the person who followed up Davidw's original thread, can I please say "ditto" to his post above.
I also have a clean licence, and value it highly as I have a 25 mile drive to work. Like some others, I may have been slightly less than careful once (in far less capable machinery - Citroen C15 van...) but I am not interested in getting killed.
I would not want to incite anybody to drive dangerously. But it seems the mere presence of a Scooby can do this. - last night on the way home (driving at/around the speed limit on dual carriageway) I was caught by a Griffith at speed who obviously wanted to "play". I couldn't be bothered as it was v.late and I was tired - he raced off and pulled the most appalling manoeuvre as the dual carriageway ended. Was so glad I hadn't got involved.
Didn't get to see the RSOC post, but I can imagine the form it took. I would not want to be associated with that kind of ar$ery.

hi

these type of threads are always subject to opinion and counter opinions which can and often do go around in circles...i've been slated on the bb's for admitting driving dangerously in the past.

A bb discussion on the pitfalls of driving? I'm well up for, but what REALLY gets up my nose, and i can well imagine it irritates other people too, is when people associate this type of driving with RS owners only, which is complete crap, just think about it for a second.

It's posts that have such sweeping stereotypical statements, along these lines, that turns a thread into a slanging match when it doesn't need to be. Please don't be so judgemental. I've seen several imprezas been driven extremely quickly on public roads(and one was being driven dangerously at times) so no-one can say that such driving is the preserve of the RS owner.

cheers.

Mungo 08 December 2000 04:48 PM

Oh dear, my words are constantly being mis-construed.
I was not implying either:
1) That all RS drivers are bad drivers
or:
2) That all bad driving is done by RS owners.
I have read a couple of the "evading police by driving at 80 in a 30 zone" posts, and I imagined that this was more of the same foolishness. Apologies if it was actually about somehting different.

CC 08 December 2000 05:42 PM

hey i wasn't having a dig at anyone in particular!
i was just pointing out that alot of posts, not necessarily in this thread, seem to blame everything on a particular make of car.

ps but then again i do think that ALL impreza owners are big girls lol http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

(j/k)!

Can i just clarify this by saying that GranTurismo (not his real name!) did "identify" me, although not through my IP address (which is still safe).

The big question is, how can "one" remain *totally* anonymous on the Internet (if one chooses to be, which i don't)?

CC 08 December 2000 07:15 PM

i'm confused. how can someone discover your details without an ip when the only information you have supplied to this BB is your ip address?

through information given in posts?

DavidG 08 December 2000 11:56 PM

how do you check the IP addresses? I thought you had to be an admin to do that...

Mr.Cookie 09 December 2000 12:18 PM

Not sure but probably if you put a link into your own site you could trace that way

Simon
Ps Once you've got an ip its very easy to find out the isp it originated from

GranTurismo 09 December 2000 09:13 PM

Hello,

I found boomer by Cross Referncing posts and webistes. I did not find his IP address but thats irelavent as I wanted to find out his personal info. Like he said, he does not try to hide his identity much so it was easy.

If you want to find an IP address its very easy if you are a server admin, just look in the webserver log. If you are not an admin you can still run IP Sniffers on a server that look at the traffic etc. TCP/IP is not a secure protocal so is easy to intercept. That is why any tranactions that need to be secure use HTTPS to encrypt the data.

Dont get to worked up about people knowing your IP address, as its about as usefull as a randon phone number. Although someone could try and hack into your PC, many IP addresses are common knowledge just use a whois site to find out that IP address if any web server.

You should be more worried about posting messages about Going on Holiday for a month or what type of alarm you have, becuase that is much more usefull to your average muppet.

Lambchop 10 December 2000 06:24 PM

Stuart
I deleted the thread NOT the administrators.
Sorry if it caused anyone bother....

Stuart H 10 December 2000 08:03 PM

Lambchop,

I stand corrected! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

matt_d 11 December 2000 01:38 AM

1) You can just say you were bragging.
2) You can say your friend/wife/relative posted using your name as a joke.

Innocent till proven guilty still applies. Case closed, your honour.

sunilp 11 December 2000 02:03 PM

oh yeah, what about "duty of care", "due dilligence" and then having an obligation to put forward your wife/friend/relative?

I rest my case http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif
