Matt

I use PC Anywhere onto a machine that is in the server room (with no monitor) and not running through the ISA server (to avoid "stats" ) :D

I'm actually the Net Admin etc etc, but it's still prudent not to be recorded in the logs ;)

If Nic doesn't play ball. I'll pop round and sort her out. She'll be flowing nicely when I've finished ;)

PTMW, nice solution. Personally I have a rule set on the firewall to allow me out. No logs, no p(r)oxy :)

Puff, this is only a small company (10 people) so our server room is actually the floor space next to my desk.
I've got my PC and the server connected to a single Monitor/mouse/keyboard using a Omni cube hub thingy. It works a treat except when I'm switching between computers it beeps so it's not very descrete and there's no way of stopping it :(

Besides I'm now sitting facing the corner so that anyone passing can see what I have on screen  so switching between computers isn't really a help anymore :(

Hey Guys, if you have been ICQ'ing me (Steve, Road, Orbv) I have not been ignoring you! My connection is on 24hours a day so it always says I am online, so if you have messaged me and I have not replied then I am sorry! I am not entirely sure I can make it tonight, will have to see what my lady friend is doing as she is moving soon and so I won't get to see her as much anymore :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Steve Perriam 02 January 2002 02:20 PM

Matt

You wearing a pointy wizard cap with a big "D" on it as well

Ask to have the "rules & regs" explained clearly to you in writing. Are you, in fact, breaking existing rules? Also ask if they have a problem with your work as it would seem that they are being restrictive and don't trust you. Almost seems they were looking for a reason to "out" you, so would be a case for constructive dismissal. I'm not in the know about that particular piece of legislation, but I'm sure someone on here would know more. We tell everyone that joins what they can/cannot do with computers/Internet/email/private phone calls & let them know that we log/record all phone conversations in/out & periodically check emails/internet usage. Then, if someone "transgresses" they can be dealt with sensibly & maturely (& without fear of litigation ;) ), without having to resort to sticking someone in the corner

Steve Perriam 02 January 2002 03:08 PM

so any of u guys on 2nite ?

post in the other thread.

Neanderthal 02 January 2002 06:49 PM

Puff, I carefully checked the companies "computer & email policy" after the second b*ll*cking. They clearly state under the "general rules about emails" that misuse of the email system by transmission of any material in any of the following categories will constitute gross misconduct...

Defamatory,
Offensive or obscene,
Untrue or malicious,
of a political nature,
in breach of copyright.

They also say "Should you recieve an email which contravenes this policy the email should be brought to the attention of one of the partners". Now funnily enough, one of the partners recieves a email for one of our clients on a weekly basis (the Naughty Disney Calendar, pictures of women semi naked etc). Does any thing happen? nope.

They also explicitly state "The firm will not rountinely monitor messages".

There is nothing in the "computer & email policy" that addresses the usage of the internet or world wide web

Hence why I'm looking to leave this place ASAP. One rule for the partners, one for everyone else, and I get a set of rules entirely for me...
