Used the website to tax the scoob the other day. Straight forward process which only took a couple of minutes. Tax disc arrived yesterday ( two days later).. saved me hunting out the mot and insurane docs, travelling into town, driving round for ages to find a car parking space and having to queue up for about an hour in our crappy main post office:luxhello:

I taxed my car on line 4 days ago thinking it would save me the trouble of queuing up with the piss soaked oaps at the post office. Today however I have still not received my fookin disc through the post:mad:
I have rang the dvla who told me that although I am taxed on their records,if i'm stopped by the police I can still be done for not displaying a tax disc.

I didn't have any problems at all due to the insurance renewal being due soon. The car was insured when I taxed it.

Depends on the timing. If you're insurance expires before tax then it does not cover you for the time when the tax disc becomes valid and therefore you cannot renew. e.g. my car was imported, so I needed insurance immediately, but not VED until it was registered about a week later. This is an annual frustrating problem for me.

I tried a few weeks ago, but it asked for a number in the yellow box of the V5. There wasn't a yellow box.

I've also heard that some insurance companies aren't registered with the database

I did mine online about a year ago without any problems.

However, someone on here pointed out, all you're doing is giving the f***ing government more money, because it costs very little to administer and they don't pay the post office anything.

For that reason I will forever support my local post office and give the government as little as possible :)

Only reason I ever went to the post office and now I dont need to!!! Its cracking not having to stand next to the scumbags!!

Took a few minutes and arrived 3 days later.

i have it was great much better than queueing with the doleites

I've used it succesfully on a number of occasions for both tax and SORN. Sure beats queuing behind a load of leaching baby machines that my tax goes towards their upkeep. ;)

The only one occasion it wouldn't work is when my insurer got all the registration details wrong, technically I had been driving round uninsured for the best part of the month due to their error. As it took that long for the paperwork to finally come through, and only after I demanded a cover note (due to not being able to tax it online) despite earlier phone conversations asking why the car was listed as uninsured by the DVLA.

PS to those who tried to tax their car 4days before the end of the month...READ the website! It can take over a week for the disc to be delivered. Now if you had bothered to renew it the day the reminder came through rather than leaving it to the last minute whilst not bothering to read the website properly, you wouldn't be in this mess. :p

Well, I was too late applying on line as well. I phoned DVLA. They told me that I could drive around with a confirmation email to prove that I had bought the tax. So did I. It turned up in two days, anyway.

You try that excuse with a jobsworth community support officer (cough traffic warden). ;)

Technically, It's still failure to display a valid tax disc. :nono:

I taxed my car online for the first time the other day and after hearing of people having agro with it I was suprised to find it only took a couple of mins. I got the disk through the front door 2 days later.
