300bhp touring cars take 5 secs off that time.

I have done around 450 laps of the indy so I know the track as well as any:razz:.
An RA properly set up for track, running 350bhp could do around 50 ish.;)

I suggest you do some research fella, paying particular attention to the RCM Gobstopper LOL

His best lap was a 50.166 in the final. Olly has done 3 seasons in Time Attack using Brands Hatch Indy, together with various test days. I would say Olly knows what he is doing, although he does admit it isnt his favourite circuit.

The Time Attack lap record for a Subaru at Brands is by the Zen Car in 2008, which had 600+ hp and handles like its on rails and ways 1100kg. That was 48.901 Zen Performance - News & Results. Note that is with Phil Glew driving, a professional racing driver and coach!

I imagine your novas PWTWR is very similar to that of an RA running 350.

There is no way, you will get a 50 at brands in an RA running R888's, or slicks for that matter IMO.

My E30 325i does 59 seconds dry 64 seconds wet both on road tyres... 10 seconds on a short lap is a massive amount, especially for road cars as corner speed will not be too different with well set up cars. I take Paddock hill at 100mph, i would of thought the gobstopper is around 120mph. So around 20% faster through the corners and 25% faster down the straights would equate to the comparative lap times. I'm sorry but my e30 grips like **** and pisses all over lightly tunes scooby's, porsches etc around the corners. I just aint got the power down the straights, but over a whole lap they are left for dead. There is no way anything but a race car can get significantly under 55 second laps of brands

LOL - you don't know it that well :) That would be just physcially impossibe to do 50s. Listen to what others are telling you. :)

sorry for digging this old thread out - i was searching for comparitive laptimes round brands for a quiz question and stumbled across it.

anyway to put it into perspective a 125 cc kart with a power to weight of under 300hp per ton with driver has lapped Brands Indy in 49.
A 250 kart with 500 hp per ton with driver has lapped Brands Indy in 45.4 seconds ! and a friend on mine who runs a 205 peugeot with just 8v atmo power has managed 52.9

Just shows it's all about cornerspeed not power !

Its a shame there isn't a way of proving your lap times officially at Brands in much the same way that Santa Pod print you the read out after a 1/4 mile run. Then we could have an official scoobynet lap board :norty:

With respect? With respect, you have no idea what you are talking about. A lot of what you might see on the roads isn't representative of the relative performance of bike vs car, because most riders on the road worry about what is round the next corner so slow for self preservation (something often forgotten in a car).

Anyway, if it is true that bikes cannot corner. How do you explain my 58s lap of Brands racing my 53bhp Ducati Monster? The thing never gets above 110mph, so it must be carrying some speed in the corners!

For the record, I am on my third Impreza since 2003, and have only been riding bikes for 3 years. I can honestly say, hand on heart that a bike is almost always going to beat scar round a track (in the dry)..... and it will cost a lot less too.

As an example, the British Superbikes and British Touring cars are of a similar level. Where the current touring car Brands Indy Lap Record is 48.2s, the current Superbike record is 45.5s. I would suggest the cornering speeds are very similar, but the bike has a slight speed advantage on the straights. It would be interesting to compare telemetry readouts from the two!
