Im happy with 318bhp and the 356lb of torque ;), you cant really use 400bhp on the twisties, especially in the wet ;)
There is a point where you go from having too little power to having too much power that spoils the car completely for what it was designed to do, go round corners and travel across country at a nice quick pace, if you get too much bhp then you will just be on the brakes half the time when you dont need to be, and anyway, we all know that you are really after torque and not bhp as torque is what keeps you going ;):p

To be precise, low down torque with a nice spread (for a predominantly road going car). ;)

Oh and you can use circa 400bhp on the twisties and in the wet.... a decent car setup (handling mods and tyres) with the right suspension will enable you to do that. :D :D

I still stand by the fact that if people spent as much money and time on the handling side, they would really appreciate how quick these cars can become. No point in having 330/330, 360/360 or 400/400 if you can only use 70% of the power in 70% of situations.

However if youre already making the best of what little power you have then no amount of handling mods will make it any faster, maybe faster round the track but how many of us use a track everyday... not many i bet.

My mate lotus elise has only 135bhp, buts its really exciting to be in.

I just want the car to be as exciting as the cossie was to drive, so im asking if the 340/340 route will provide that.

It's a tough one, but until you try it you will never know. The Subaru is better at putting the power down than the Cossie is, but with the Cossie you are getting approx a 200kg weight advantage. As we all know, power to weight is a key factor when comparing performance. The subaru is also a different beast in terms of drive compared to the Cossie, something I found when buying an early import WRX many moons ago, with the Subaru always being more tail happy than any of my Escort Cossies ever where. To be honest, I think the answer is subjective as regards to a car being any more "exciting" than the other.

Interesting discussion, was thinking of going for a new 2.5 sti type uk ,doesn't seem to be much available tuning wise other than 340bhp remaps with exhaust etc.(Read a atricle on a 380bhp remap from ggr but this is a exception). Could i bolt-up a td06 20g and would it survive on standard internals?Do you think it's best going for a evo 8/9 320?

You could always speak to Iain at LitchField Imports or Rich at PowerStation, as they are working with me on my car (so know what has and has not worked so far) without me going in to major details before I finish the testing and produce the article.

Please remember though.... alot of the work we have done is concentrating on the space below the power lines on graphs, not the peak figures. :)

Speak to Litchfield / PowerStation regarding the 2.5 standard internals..... they have probably spent more time testing these engines than anyone in this country (since 2003). The standard pistons are not very good and will not take much abuse.

+ Whiteline Handling mods, Eibachs + uprated shocks, anti lift, solid droplinks, uprated ARB's, AP Racing 6 pots + a shed load of other mods ( 400 BHP doesn't come easy )
When I first drove it the acceleration really shocked me, esp past 100 ( units of undefined speed ), but the handling and brakes are equally as impressive.
