i have an idea
can u hold the pedal down in 5 th or does the boost just soar up

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:01 AM

yeah you can hold it , but it goes up prettey quick

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:05 AM

ok ur boost solenoid might be knackered causing ur boost to spike u can get a new boost solenoid or u can get a bleed valve when the garage fits it they will set it to 10 psi then if car wants to go above 10 it will vent excess boost safeguarding ur engine to me it sounds as if ur boost solenoid is broken causing car to spike u could try cleaning it

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:06 AM

if u get that fitted u can hold foot down on pedal and boost will stay at 10
is that quick enough for u

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:09 AM

tell u what m8 u have the patients of a saint , where is this boost solenoid ?:wonder:

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:12 AM

well it is bolted to the drivers side suspension strut under the bonnett has is kind of gold in colour with pipes coming out of it next to ur air filter
well my boost goes to around 18 psi 1.2bar of boost and i dont have the power u do
any subaru specialist near u

i dont think there is anywhere near me that will do this for me unless anyone knows different

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:13 AM

definatly try optimax tho i ran mine on 95 ron and it ran awful if u change the fuel it might not make noise when u go above ten

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:14 AM

have u ever took it right up to where it stops on gauge does it get to point where it wont go any higher

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:14 AM

I will, its bl00dy irritating knowing that this car can shift but only to an extent

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:15 AM

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:15 AM

do u ever come to scotland

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:16 AM

where are the revs when it gets to ten

never noticed the revs m8 i generally to busy looking at the gauge to make sure i dont go over 10

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:20 AM

put optimax in ur car then get car into about 3rd and try and see how high u can get the boost on the gauge if it gets to just above ten and dies down u will see the needle drop then that is the ecu cutting boost to protect engine

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:22 AM

my car was doing same when i went above ten it died and the needle dropped then the car would only go to ten was told car was overboostin caused by an ecu fault

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:22 AM

That might be what its doing, it seems as though it doesnt want to go any further

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:22 AM

i would try optimax plus an octane booster and try that see how it goes

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:24 AM

might be because of all the power mine is above standard to thats what caused the ecu fault
if u have changesd the coils and plugs
the only things it can be are the fuel, the boost solenoid or the ecu then u will see what it can really do

try a f**in what booster lol told u i was new :lol1:

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:26 AM

hope its not the ecu a tommy kiarra one will bankrupt me lol

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:30 AM

u dont have to get same type of ecu u can buy a programmeable one u can set it to what ever u want. u can buy octane boost from halfords or such like it increase the octane level optimax is 98 octane can increase it to around 100 that is what they run on in japan so the ecu is programmed to run 100 ron so when u run lower it doesnt like it

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:31 AM

or someone may be able to re programme ur ecu

95blackWRX 04 March 2006 02:31 AM

do u have msn

wannascoobydoo 04 March 2006 02:33 AM

ok m8 thx for your help and patients and i will let u know what happens i am actually going to halford in the mornig, your a star :notworthy

wannascoobydoo, please use the search function and look for threads about octane fuel ratings, imports and detonation. It is really important that you understand the importance of what octane fuel you use with imports (especially of this age) because quite simply you can destroy your engine very quickly if you get it wrong. I am trying to alarm you because it could be that serious and I would prefer a new Scooby owner to not have to face buying a new engine within a couple of weeks of buying their new car.

Basically your car was designed to run in Japan on 100 RON (Research Octane Number) fuel. UK fuel has a lower octane rating. Unless your ECU (Engine Control Unit) has been mapped for UK fuel, you risk detonation and serious damage to your engine.

What history do you have about the car? What modifications have been made to the engine?

The safest thing for you to do right now if to use a super unleaded fuel, Optimax being most preferred, add octane booster to every tank of fuel and do not drive it hard. Keep the revs down. I recommend you find a respected Subaru tuner and take your car along to them so you can find out in the first instance exactly what you have and what state of tune it's in. If any modifications then need to be made to make it run safe (e.g. mapping to either UK regular fuel or Super Unleaded), they can discuss the options with you and can make those changes.
