I'm so glad I have an 03 WRX which is lighter than a spec C, has 329bhp and 335lbft torque and costs half as much !! :D

Neilo 15 March 2005 10:33 PM

have you stripped the wrx then andy? as it was my understanding that it weighs 1385kg?

(i have one too that would seem to have a far superior power to weight ratio too ;) )

Andy.F 15 March 2005 10:59 PM

No big heavy 6 speed box with too short ratios, no crash frame (removed mine as per spec C) Sti bonnet fitted, lighter rear and front diffs than Sti, no AVCS system, lighter brakes, lighter tubular headers (like spec C)
I have not weighed it but on Delta dyno, it's quicker through 3rd gear than a JDM Sti9 twin scroll is in 4th (and the Sti was EcuTeK mapped to 340bhp/340lbft)

The Bug/Blob WRX is the performance bargain of the century, fit headers, hybrid TD04 turbo, decat and Tek map for under £2k all in and whip Sti's/Spec C's (you would even get a set of Eibachs included in the £2k ! )

how are you finding the gearbox holding up?? any issues? im due to find what mine is currently pushing on saturday but all being well it will be 300+ on both fronts....it just a question of how much....I have an APS SR30 mapped at 1.4bar, was 295 at 1.2bar before.

Andy.F 15 March 2005 11:54 PM

Interesting, we had an SR30 turbo'd wrx at the rolling road day last Saturday which was, er, well, let me know how it performs for you :)

half as much????? you can get spec'c's rather cheap now if you try hard enough:D:D

Neilo 16 March 2005 04:46 PM

is the spec c really only 1350kg though?

thats pretty good :P

It cuts 90kg from the 'Spec C' by eliminating front sub frames, by thinning roof panel, boot lid and windows, and by ditching luxury equipment such as air conditioning. At 1310kg, it is 120kg lighter than a "regular" Sti. Weight distribution has also been carefully thought about with the larger intercooler water spray container now beginning fitted behind the rear seat panel.

The chassis has also been improved with extra rigidity and the suspension features changes to caster and geometry set-up. Even the 17 inch Alloys feature a special new tyre design developed with Bridgestone.

The improvement in performance is just as thorough; the engine now features a lower resistance roller bearing turbo, Motor sport ECU and revised inlet cams. This all adds to a more responsive and powerful engine, torque has improved by 8.5 lbft (now 290lbft). The 'Spec C' is the ultimate performance incarnation of the STI range.

says its even lighter.........

"It cuts 90kg from the 'Spec C' "
"it is 120kg lighter than a "regular" Sti"

Hmm, some confusion there :D
From Subarus own website http://www.subaru.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW/Su...4?Opendocument
Sti UK = 1475kg
WRX = 1395kg

tuscan57 16 March 2005 08:31 PM

dont ask me...... ;) best get the spec'c' on a weigh bridge..... altho mine will be a heavy one....... came with A/C

chrisp 16 March 2005 09:01 PM

That what I love about the classics 337bhp and 1240kgs :D

Green_Scooby_Wagon 17 March 2005 11:28 PM

I went out in the 'Spec C' today with Mr Tuscan.

That is a serious bit of kit! http://www.esoftpro.com/demo/EGuestPRO/emoticon/228.gif

And boy can he can drive!! http://www.esoftpro.com/demo/EGuestPRO/emoticon/226.gif

I'm amazed at the differance weight, dccd and a twin scroll turbo makes. And it's not even had a decat / remap yet!!

Well impressed!! :thumb:

SirFozzalot 18 March 2005 08:53 AM

Have to admit, I never really understood what all the fuss was about with the Spec C, but after a blat with Tuscan.......OH MY GOD! That thing is FAAAAAAST :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Looks like you didnt lock the DCCD based on the wheel speeds that apear to be diferent in the photo?

not sure how they had the diff TBH is locked the best route????????

johnfelstead 21 March 2005 06:35 PM

yes, you have to use 100% lock otherwise the 66/33 torque split causes the rears to spin faster and you might get false readings from the dyno.

tuscan57 21 March 2005 06:39 PM

so in that case if they didnt do mine or the WR1's the readings are most likely all out....... mmmmmm time for another RR session..........

John, would this cause the dyno to read lower than expected? i felt that my type r was lower than i thought and my diff was set to fully open

johnfelstead 22 March 2005 01:15 AM

Not sure what the effect would be specifically, it would depend on how the dyno works out the torque.

achad 25 March 2005 07:01 PM

When my WR1 last got rr the were negligible differences between the diff being locked or fully open. Not sure why, surely john has a point?
