I have to question here, weather or not you've ever rode a bike, let alone an R1!?

The reason I ask is that im doing 330 bhp out of the scooby, and having owned two R1's I can guarantee whoever was riding the R1 you raced, was probably laughing his socks off up to 140.

There's not a cat in hells chance of you even slightly keeping up with an R1!

Those bikes accelerate like a rocket!

Not to say that your cars slow, cause I don't know you and I just wouldn't do that, but honestly mate the only chance you've got keeping up with an R1, is down some real twisty's where you can be faster and more risky round bends than him.

But I may be wrong, your scoob may be doing alot more power than mine, cause there's alot of big bhp out there!

Cheers Shimy.

maybe he borrowed AndyF's type r:D:D:D

tuscan57 11 February 2005 11:44 PM

doubt he could keep with an R1 as the tuscan struggled like hell..........

Well

i own a modded wrx 04 and a modded ZX10R

There are a lot of born again riders out there, and a lot of people with high power sports bikes that cant and dont use the power, they tend to feed the throttle rather than pinning the throttle through fear of the front coming up.

They will always give it the large in the pub but never really have the balls to use the full power

An R1 or even GSXR750 would be quicker

im afraid you raced a born again

buff 12 February 2005 08:27 AM

an impreza wouldn't even get close to a r1,my mates cbr600 p#sses all over my 270hp classic:(

john banks 12 February 2005 09:24 AM

Depends on the Impreza, no one else but an R1 would race me at Crail at my first drag day (apart from one sneaky 1/4 at Elvington before in another car). The R1's terminals were up to 9mph faster, but I often got him for the first 1/8 mile. That was with 434 BHP. AndyF's terminals on the same strip are 6mph faster than the R1 at 136 mph.

I have had an R1 try to come past on the back wheel who sheepishly then put it down after staying on my rear quarter panel and pulled in behind and stayed there for another mile - the GSXR1000 was just in front. That was with 406 BHP. After 125mph (say after a quarter mile) I feel that I am reeling them in very slowly.

T-uk has 340 BHP but overtook an R1 that had to back off for high speed bumps/bends no problem, but he has AP 6 pots and coilovers and balls, but the R1 never caught up after that.

There has been no car that has got close yet.

However, since the GT2/biker case I'm not getting within a mile of a biker trying hard ever again.

you are right to question it! i couldnt beleive it myself but i did say he was quicker than me only just! this is in a straight line side by side 70-140mph! he was quicker, slightly pulled out on me,when i topped out he kept going etc then pulled over and thumbs up! he wasnt old. i also raced another sports bike think a zx6r and just beat him in a straight line 80-130mph b4 hit traffic.

yes he was racing, u can tell they are when the left leg does clink clink down 2 gears and he has just looked in his mirror and he leans over the bike! my gf didnt believe it could keep up with bikes so im glad she was with me and beleives me now. my car is standard except full decat.

yes i did even slighlty keep up with an r1.

i would be glad to let any1 have test drive in my car.day night am pm your choice. i couldnt see you stacking it so dont care if u arent insured to drive other cars.maybe some1 who could then back me up on here!

when ur already doing 70mph, its not really a case of feeding in the power is it.

bit of a difference. heavy classic 270bhp and a light ra 295bhp.

Mitchy260 12 February 2005 09:48 AM

Heavy classic??

Classic weighs 1235kg, how much does an RA weigh? 1200kg???

1/2 a tank of petrol could even that up, or a 15 stone driver and a 10 stone driver

V LTD sti type RA 12 February 2005 09:52 AM

ok that was half tank. one driver 10stone. 1160kgs ish car. warm day.oh and the close ratio gearbox!

Mitchy260 12 February 2005 09:54 AM

With heavy 4wd transmission losses the scoob will never ever have a chance anywhere through the speed range. I doubt even a 450bhp impreza would keep with an R1.

With a 330bhp impreza having only 220bhp (??) @ wheels, i seriously doubt it keeping with an R1.

I'll refer you to this page for transmission losses in imprezas....

nice guess work there!!

V LTD sti type RA 12 February 2005 09:56 AM

without floating my own boat here! its not an ordinary scooby! please some1 come and drive it!!?

Mitchy260 12 February 2005 09:57 AM

Have a look at the link. Imprezas lose a hell of a lot through transmission.

http://dyno.scoobynet.co.uk/PEindex/jap.htm

Look at owner Arthur dent (2nd from bottom of page), he has the same car as you and makes more power at 346bhp but only 221bhp @ wheels.

That car is losing a hell of a lot of power through transmission and yours is probably too.

tuscan57 12 February 2005 09:59 AM

so how much power is your scooby running??????? my tucscan was runnin 390bhp but nowhere near the scoob weight and really did struggle with a R1 where as it would eat 350bhp scoobs in a straight line..........

RoRu 12 February 2005 10:01 AM

I read in EVO a while ago an article with Gordon Murry about memorable drives he'd had, and he recounted a story of returning from the German grand prix in a Mac F1 and having a play with a superbike, by pulling along side the bike and gesturing what gear he was in and when to nail the throtle, this was done a few times from different speeds and gears and if IRC he said that the bike only dropped a couple of lenghts upto 140/150 then the superior airodynamics of the car started to show and the bike could not keep up.

F1 640bhp/479lb/ft 1137kg.

I don't think the r1 was trying.

surely he was ;)

V LTD sti type RA 12 February 2005 10:06 AM

as above standard 275 bhp with full decat so about 295bhp.

ok so u wont beleive me about an r1 so im also lying about the zx6r, the r6 the v twin and the older 600cc bike i raced then. im just posting these stories for the fun of it!!!!

i think il have to start a post " whos kept up with a motorbike in an sti type ra in a straight line"!

that close ratio 5th gear makes so much difference

tuscan57 12 February 2005 10:11 AM

the 600 bikes are possible yes as i had some fun with a few once i had fitted the P1 engine etc into my classic and had a play from 60 to about 140 (test track) but as for the bigger bikes not a chance they were trying.......

Your hardly pushing the tuning envelope with a de-cat.

off the clock........ but that run we were about to hit road works so we both slowed down..........

exactly! mine only does 140mph so it excelerates very quickly even in 5th! i find that even racing subarus and evo's im out in front over 100mph before we have to slow down for traffic so sometimes that long 5th gear in evos and subarus is wasted. if the bike does 160mph but we only got to 140 before hitting traffic then i kept the margin down through my shorter 5th gear. if he kept going to top speed yes i would have lost easily.
