Nice .... but with a name like David Brown, should you not be ordering an Aston Martin ..:)

Oh silly me ... you've probably got one anyway ...;)

spider 22 December 2004 10:33 PM

David, what can I say - awesome machines. Enjoy them however long you have them!

BTW, your old DGM bonnet scoops are still putting in sterling service on my Scoob's bonnet! :D

Cheers,
Steve

I hate to spoil your enjoyment of a beautiful car, but you should probably be aware of this
http://www.blueovalnews.com/2004/rec...gt.19dec04.htm

Ford will quietly notify dealers who have 2005 GT models in their inventory that they may not drive, demonstrate or sell the vehicles until two recalls are performed. According to a Ford memo, representatives from Ford will contact GT owners individually and instruct them "not to drive their vehicle under any circumstances."
In the first of two recalls, Ford will inspect the fuel system of all GTs made from 13 October 2004 through 19 November 2004. Some of the Ford GTs may require the installation of a new fuel tank.
The second recall to be issued will be safety related due to defective suspension control arms. The safety recall will include all GTs made from JOB1 (30 June 2004) through 11 December 2004. According to a Ford memo, "Ford has identified a quality issue with the suspension control arms on the affected vehicles which may adversely affect vehicle handling in the event of a control arm fracture. In the event a customer does not seek service for the diminished handling concern, a crash potentially could occur." Replacement parts should be available to dealers by 01 February 2005.
According to sources, Ford may issue a future recall to replace the rear engine exterior cowl cover due to alleged cracking issues. A BlueOvalNews article published on 07 September 2004 alleged that the cylinder heads on the GT may be defective, however, no such defects have been reported.

Read up Lum. I've already sold it. The next one I buy will already have the recall work done.

BTW, your old DGM bonnet scoops are still putting in sterling service on my Scoob's bonnet!
Excellent !! Glad to hear you still have it.

The Zohan 24 December 2004 09:07 PM

Congratulations David, what a great car.

Steve Perriam 24 December 2004 10:43 PM

am i reading this rite ?

Danny B 25 December 2004 12:16 AM

Made a few bucks on the exchange rate did you?
$155,000 is roughly £80,500 which is considerably less than what http://www.tomhartley.com is flogging your old car for which you had for all of one day

Still, business is business I s'pose...

PG 25 December 2004 12:28 AM

fair play to you David !
Now you have had the taster you can wait again for your car and enjoy it all over again.

scoobynutta555 25 December 2004 08:02 AM

What exactly was the point of this post if you were going to sell the car so soon and probably make a killing to boot.

I was going to correct so many errors in your thinking, but since it's Xmas day.. I'll just suggest that you consider that I may have paid over-list for it, and that I had to pay between £20,000 and £30,000 import tax to bring it in.

Still more than worth your while selling it though?

I had the opportunity of getting another one, cheaper than I paid for my first one. What would you do ?

It's listed as POA on tomhartley.com
Please tell me you didn't phone up Tom Hartley to find out the price for the specific purpose of having a go in this thread...

Nope, If I had that kind of money for a car, the ford would not be on my list, unless I was to buy one then sell it to make profit;) Dont really see the point of having one in the Uk from a drivers point of view. There are a few other equally capable and more cars out there specifically honed for European roads. Only reason I can think of is pose status :D

whitsteruk1 25 December 2004 11:17 AM

Fair play to you mate, business is business, and if you can come out of the deal with a GT40 and a bit more cash in your pocket good luck to ya:thumb: :thumb:

midget1500 25 December 2004 11:20 AM

lovely car. glad u r getting another one.

you might as well go ahead and make all the trolls sick and tell them how much you made on the deal

Danny B 25 December 2004 11:21 AM

David, I can appreciate you paid more than list price, import duties, SVA test, and model report etc. I wasn't having a go at you for selling it to make a few quid as I would have done the same, but the fact that you posted here as if it were your car that you intended to keep and let us all have regular updates etc and then less than 1hr later it appears on a dealers website for sale :(
Anyway, it's Christmas Day and I have kids to entertain so I'll be saying no more.
Cheers

D Noble 25 December 2004 11:28 PM

If its your new car fair enough, well done, but dont say here it is then there it goes.

Most UK companies were quoting me just shy of £10,000 to ship it by air, but dealing with US companies found it much cheaper (maybe due to the exchange rate). I paid ~£3000 to ship by air (that includes collection from dealership, and preparation - it's considered hazardous materials).
When I ordered it, due to Thanksgivings, Xmas and New Year, it was going to be sometime in January before I got it, whereas by air it was only a week or so.

My intention is to have one and keep it (so I'm shopping for another now). My father in law being a car dealer saw an opportunity called Tom Hartley and then called me with the offer.

You've driven one then ? I'd love to compare notes. I found the handling to be more compliant than my old GT2 which was a bone shaker but no softer than my 360 Spider which is one of the best handling cars I've driven. Turn in is pretty sharp/direct without tending to premature oversteer. The GT has quarter mile time the same as an Enzo (turns out, the 550bhp quoted is said to be an underestimation with cars on the dyno producing over 600bhp), which could make you think it was a straight-line-only beast, but with track times just shy of Enzos/SLR/Carrera-GTs (cars 3x the price) makes me wonder where your "more show than go" comment comes from. Each to their own I guess.

Gastro 26 December 2004 12:39 PM

Well now christmas is over...

This is just the typical set of comments that gives SN a bad name - criticism because someone has got the money and ingenuity to make some money and get a stonking car that most Scooby drivers can only dream of and as a result make a load of pointless posts as highlighted....

That is IMHO of course.....

Why the feck shouldn't he? I guarantee you that the majority of people on this forum would have a picture on here, if they had bought one, faster than you shake a sh1tty stick.
You seem to have a problem with people buying new cars nutta......

Oh, and DavidBrown, you have too much money - you git!:)

Haha - awesome.
If you can find me a GT40 from the States at £80k, can you bring me over 5?
Also, for ever one you bring me, I'll give you £10k in nice, crispy £50 notes all wrapped up in a brown paper bag.

:) Spot on Cem

How did I miss this thread until now? Lovely car David. Your impeccable taste in cars continues. Wasn't you involved in that bank robbery in Northern Ireland was it? God knows, that's the only way I would afford one :)
