Top Gear is entertainment. I love it.

Comparing BHP and torque figures of petrol and diesel cars is pointless and very misleading.
Diesel cars have to have much higher torque than petrols just to have the same performance.

I was refering to others ;) There are always too many users on here that obviously have too much time and need to have a whinge about something (rally coverage/Top Gear/ fith gear etc) to make their day better. If they think they can do a better job I'd love to see it.

Not strictly true.

Diesels do have to have much higher torque to achieve decent bhp because they don't rev very high. BHP is only torque X revs anyway.

Much more depends on torque curves, gearing, weight and aerodynamics.

The new 1.9TTD Vectra is faster than the 3.2V6 petrol and they have very similar power outputs. Most diesels are going to appear slower on paper as they need an extra gear change to reach 60mph. On the road it can be very different

Aren't you just proving my point that simply putting BHP and Torque figures down as proof that one car is obviously faster than the other is misleading.
