I have one years NCB I'm afaraid. Wrote my old Saxo of on a country lane going round a bend, mud over road from tractor, just understeared of the road. Nothing I could have done.

CW42- I've got an advanced drivers licence and also been down to Knockhill for leason on controlling a powerful car. No point spending all that cash if you can't control the car.

I am 23 and Tesco insured me - still £1400 (with 5YNCB, tracker, IAM etc) though!!

did you do the advanced driving before or after the above happened? :)
Nice to see some people have a clue :)
chris.

£3500 sounds cheap for insurin' a P1 at 18.... a take it that was the excess?

infact theres a special test that the young'ins can now take called 'pass plus' its meant to reduce your insurance by 40%!

GrantyBoy 02 May 2004 11:28 AM

yeah did my advanced lessons about a year after I passed my test. Country lane coming back from girlfriends house at night. Tractor had dumped a load of mud on the road just round a corner so the car just slid off doing 20ish. Write off because car went over a little stone dyke wall and ripped the underside of the car off :( Typical french car!

Pass plus gives you a years ncb or discount to that value ish.

cw42 02 May 2004 12:29 PM

Looks like your the only one on here who's had any advanced training grantyboy, all credit to you m8 :)
Hope others follow suit, and book a few lessons.
Maybe the police should run some courses, so instead of picking up the pieces after careless and improperly trained drivers get themselves into trouble, they'd at least be able to say they were doing some proper accident prevention.
chris.

andym172 02 May 2004 12:58 PM

I've had extra training in the form of IAM membership but don't consider it to have had a real positive effect on my driving. I was not taught anything that my driving instructor had not already taught me - having said that my instructor was excellent and gave me a few advanced driving in the lessons leading up to my test.

scubaladdie 28 December 2006 03:20 PM

Tried Admiral loads of times for a renewal quote for my Evo 6 and they kepp declining to quote as I'm 29 !! Insisting they will not insure under 30's on Evo's.... even though I know a 24 year old who insures his 6 through them... they told me he must be lying... he's shown me his insurance certificate!! They still say no under 30's !!!!!!!

OLD and B

I am getting on in years, so my STI V2 Type RA cost me £650 ish. That price includes all the mods I have had done FMIC, Apexi ECU and a number of other mods. Correct me if I am wrong, but I was led to believe if you crash the car your mods are not covered unless declared and it could void your insurance as you told pork pies on your application. !!!!!!!!! ?? B is for Boring, but your as well to throw your money to Insurance com, then have to pay for your car and who ever elses is involved out of your own pocket. No, No I am not an insurance rep.

chocolate_o_brian 28 December 2006 04:00 PM

first car after passing test at 21 earlier this year was a impreza sport. £1510 tp f&t through tesco. crashed that unfortunatley. bought a wrx import (95), that was £2250 fully comp through screentrade. killed the engine on that shed of ****. decided on a cheap runaround, ie pug diesel, insurance dropped to £750 fully comp. got bored after 6/7 weeks, so bought a my99 uk turbo. insurance is £1750 fully comp. considering i have been driving only 9 months and gone through 4 cars, i believe this to be an excellent quote, and spent a good couple hours checking everything details wise. current policy is with ecar, and includes free breakdown cover... bonus for shredded clutches!

andy:)

When I was getting quotes for my Evo I mentioned to some of the companies that were quoting silly amounts that there's plenty of Evo and Scoob drivers in their late teens/early twenties and 2 of the people I spoke to said, and I quote more or less word for word "Don't believe everything you read on the 'net... nobody that age legitimately drives something like that" ,1 of those companies was 1 that a lot of younger drivers claim to be insured with!! I'm not doubting what people on here say,I'm banging my head against a wall trying company after company and being told I'm too young at 29 !!!!

AudiLover 28 December 2006 09:38 PM

mate it depends what year you were trying to insure it. If a 18yr old tried to isnure a STI today every single insurance company would tell them to feck off, but 4 months ago it would have been possible.

Its like my little brother, 4 months ago he got quoted 2.8 grand for 1.6 FSI sport golf and 3.5 grand for a 2.0FSI sport audi A3. Today he went to get some more quotes as hes ready to buy and the cheapest he could find for the audi was 5.5 grand. I told him hes gonna have to get something slower then and he got quotes for a group 2 VAG vehicle, a 1.2 vw polo and the insurance companies still want 3 grand off him for a 1.2 :lol1:

His mate with the same car got his insured a couple months back for 1.7 grand, exact same details apart from location.

Insurance is menat to be going up another 20% in 2007, thank god im only a lowly volvo driver.
