Speedo's are always o innacurate, thats the problem.

I had my old 205 1.6 GTi at an indicated 138mph, but they only do about 123 max.

FWIW when my scoob was clocked at 174.7 at Elvington, my speedo needle was starting to come round the dial for the 2nd time :D On std RA gearing this would have been 9350rpm :eek:

At the same place where Craig was clocked @ 150, I was clocked @ 134 with an indicated 149

With a long enough piece of road and favourable conditions then 180mph is a possibility for a number of cars if they can pull to towards the red line and have the right gearing. Doing it in 1.25 mls from a standing start is another matter. Somebody might do it this year but it will be a milestone achievement. It requires not just sheer power, certainly over 550bhp in a car the weight and shape of my Wagon but the right gearing and conditions on the day.

Harvey.. Agreed, and if the speed was to count it would have to be run in both directions.. scary for spectators.. :D

The Legacy twin turbo wagon has held the record for the fastest production estate car twice (with different model years) cannot remember the actual speed but I am sure it was well over 160mph.
As the record was set for production cars this presumably means it was not running much more than the standard 280bhp.

But it takes a disproportionate amount of power to achieve just a genuine 10mph sped increase.....280 brake may get you a genuine 150ish, but to get that 30mph power increase , you have to have a massive power hike, especially as the scoob isnt that aerodynamic(??)

So, it seems it is possible in far off common lands.....Or maybe soon, here!

200mph in theory isn't "that" difficult. Reality is a little different though isn't it. Cossies are some way ahead (still) of Scoobs in the tuning world, and not one has cracked 200mph yet, has it? The power needed to go from 190 to 200 is enormous - in brick shaped imprezas and Cossies even more so.

The Jun Impreza "only" did 193. That was with mega high gearing and aero aids.

my non WR RB5 standard apart from exhaust and air cone was off the clock, the SECs unit was reading 160mph and the revs were @ 6400, at this stage i was bricking it and backed off
however the limiter is 7350rpm from the peak reading on the SECs so who know where the speed would have topped out...

Our boy Kev sharp ran 193mph then had to stop due to misfire at the top end-rev in his escort cossie last year...but i think he will be at TOTB3, I would keep an eye out for him at TOTB3 caus' he ran a 10.3 at crail (remember crail has a sh*te surface for grip) so i'm sure he'll end up in high 9s at elvington

My old MY99 did 160 not a problem, and the needle didn't stop all the way round :D

The CTR did 152 at a push but only crept there from 140 ish.

It's not big, it ain't clever, any mug can drive fast in a straight line!!

boggo std 98 revision A car(except it had the added weight of roll cage etc) - rev c and d are more powerful and will presumably go quicker still - at least legacies are put together a bit better so the windows won't pop out

I would be worried about tyres exploding at the speeds being talked about here

Elvington is good and bad to try this. Good as it is good grip from a standing start.

Bad as you run directly into the prevailing wind - westerly. This is obvious with the variation in top speed between events!

Lets hope 16th is nice and quiet with no wind :D:D

I think you might be mistaken, I have never quoted stevens car as doing those sorts of speeds, I also thought a road angel was a speed camera detector not a power meter thing? or is it gps?

however stevens car can do an off the clock :) which would suggest around 170mph but that aint the case.. :)

I didn't say you said it David. I asked who did, and only quoted "Bullsh!te" from your earlier post. The night when these stories were being told I don't think you were even there, but there were a few people telling stories about being in Stevens car, and another about him having an encounter with an unmarked plod beemer on a quiet m-way early one morning. I have no idea of the full potential of the car, and maybe have been a little gullible listening to some peoples exagerations. No offence intended.

What, you mean they've moved the whole of Edinburgh down into England somewhere? Cool, saves me petrol, perhaps they can make it the capital of England while they're at it? :D

But realistically speaking, there are no 600 BHP Impreza road cars in the UK currently. I'm sure that there will be some by TOTB3 though :rolleyes:

it is very rare to get no headwind at elvington!!
when they run proper top speed records only they use both runways and average the speeds. unfortuantely we have to run one runway only and still allow braking, but people who crack 170+mph there in 1.2miles have got an extremely quick car.!

My old MY00 PPP'd decat went off the clock at over 160 (clocked at 167mph :eek: ) which btw is as far as the uk classics and WRX's are geared to (the reading was from the car in front who had some fancy gadget that got very accurate readings ;))
I wouldnt recommend those speeds for an excessive time though.
