you forget though fitzscoob 90% of first time buyers are couples at least ours are and they are nearly always both in full time employment regardless of wether they have kids or not

fitzscoob 08 April 2004 04:45 PM

true, as soon as my girlfriend finishes uni later this year, we can start looking properly. But, that leads me into another problem - commitment :)

unclebuck 08 April 2004 04:47 PM

Brilliant, NACRO made a complete fool of himself again. It's just too easy. What a Chav.

NACRO 08 April 2004 04:49 PM

Saying it's so doesn't make it the case............I'd say your narrow minded view of the interest rate decision marks you out as the fool.

As for being a chav, I think you'll find the only mark I score on there is owning an Impreza.

Jye 08 April 2004 04:54 PM

--Well, moron, I'll explain it simply for you. I have a satellite dish, it points at Astra. It picks up various TV channels and ITV, CH4, CH5 (where this program you like to talk about is presumably on) are not available as they are encrypted. So take your suppositions and stick them up your ass.--

What box ya got NACRO? I get all those chans on my Technomate 5000, but I guess I was clever enough to get a Dragon cam ;)

NACRO 08 April 2004 04:59 PM

I'm not interested in pirating channels, it's illegal in case you weren't aware and there isn't anything clever or difficult about it and Sky are VERY litigious.
I've got an old skydigibox that I got for £20 from ebay, it enables me to watch UK news which is all I'm interested in.

unclebuck 08 April 2004 05:06 PM

You may be right, time will tell. Anyway, I've just been for a nice blast on one of my three motorcycles to look at the possibility of buying another property. New build, in a prime location for buy to let. i.e. you can walk along the riverbank to the mainline station, 30 mins into London and Sainsbury's is a stones throw. Perfect for the commuter. As I won't need a mortgage and prices are still on the up I reckon it would make a good investment for a couple of years. When interest rates do go up (next month or two) letting will be back in fashion.

The only reason for the Chav comment was in response to your boast about drinking champagne to celebrate not getting deeper in debt. At least I didn't resort to just being rude. tsk... tsk...

UB;)

NACRO 08 April 2004 05:11 PM

lol@ ol' uncle buck

We all drink champagne to celebrate here in France you muppet, it's the done thing, not some ostentatious chav ritual. At €10 a bottle for a nice cuvee it's hardly an extravagance.

As for being in debt as you put it, my liquid assets far exceed any debts I might have personally, it's called gearing as I said before, perhaps you should investigate it.

You also qualify by telling people you are "minted"

NACRO 08 April 2004 05:15 PM

It isn't my problem if you can't distinguish a tongue in cheek remark when you read one davyboy. One of the problems of BBS communication. Ditto the Impreza remarks.

Thought I'd better add *bling *bling* I'll be buying a new gold chain on the proceeds of todays 'raze'

Tiggs 08 April 2004 05:20 PM

my bro just bought a new 2 bed house in a new development- his was 200k and one of the cheaper ones.

all were sold off plan with ease. his new neighbours are all late 20's or earley 30's, many are couples. they all earn ok money but none seem loaded yet that prob were able to save decent deposits.

the first time buyer market is fine, its just older as i have said.

T

ps- feel sorry for those in their 20's who spend their money on their cars and live at home! now they have got problems as when they hit 30 they'll still have no money for a deposit...luckily there are enough sensible ppl out there!

not all of us spend all our money on our cars, i have enough cash for a deposit, its not the deposit thats the issue, its getting enough of a mortgage to buy something a bit bigger than a kennel.

Does that mean the 911 has to go?

Bravo2zero_sps 08 April 2004 06:04 PM

All depends what you consider 'ok money' Tiggs. OK to you and them maybe a small fortune to others. Many people who work outside of London don't earn 20k or more in their 20's so 3.5 times that doesn't even get them a studio flat in the worst part of where I live. In fact it doesn't get them anything at all.

Tiggs 08 April 2004 08:36 PM

"don't earn 20k or more in their 20's"

as avarage wage is 18k i cant see is too hard to find 20k in the SE...even outside London.

Bravo2zero_sps 08 April 2004 09:21 PM

I was getting at the point that even if they got say low 20's ie £23k x 3.5 = £80.5k for a mortgage. You can't buy anything round here for that not even if you added on £10k deposit. £90k round here is literally scraping the bottom of the barrel. For example I have sold my 1 bed flat for £135k so what are you supposed to get for £90k? Nothing thats what. So for a 1 bed flat at £135k you would need to be earning just under £40k minus any deposit so say £35k You wont find anyone round here unless they are in senior management or doing well in sales on that sort of money locally. Even in London with the market as it is you need to be in a good job to get £35k+

You'll actually find you aren't up a penny, you merely haven't got to spend an extra 4k.

NACRO 09 April 2004 07:49 AM

Good point, but as I thought it was a done deal I'd put the extra money aside. It's now earmarked for wasting.

Wish it was Good Friday here in France- I've finally found one small advantage of living in the UK. Still almost twice as many bank holidays over the year and a day off every month makes up for it.

Well I fit the first time buyer bracket well as Im just buying my first house with my girlfriend and Im 27 next week. The prices here are insane (south berkshire/north hants m4 corridor) £215k weve forked out for 2yr old 3 bed semi. Luckily me and my girlfriend are in a good position with large deposit (£42k) and both on decent money. I feel for people who dont have the deposit (sold my scoob to get mine as was sick of pissing money up the wall on rent).

Best thing you can do is live at home and save save save. And listen to the parents who tell you to buy a house and not a flash car.

2yr fixed mortgage at 4.59% so ok for the next 24 months anyways

Simon.

Diablo 09 April 2004 10:41 AM

What a crock of shite

If no one could afford to buy, house prices would stabilise or come down.

Plenty of affordable housing all over the UK, unless you are so narrow minded that you can't see past the south east

For most of us, low interest rates are a good thing. The housing market is the only market where price inflation is high.

We are in a period of economic stability, if the rates go up you'll see businesses collapsing right left and centre.

And those who simply look to make a high recovery on savings really are naieve as to the overall impact of rates going up.

Funny call for a socialist unclebuck :p

D

P1Fanatic 09 April 2004 10:50 AM

It's not a matter of not looking past the South East - it's the simple matter of working here and not wanting to commute as so many people do!

We do want lives you know! ;)

Simon.

Don't worry as if the Tories get in they'll soon sort that out - anyone remember mortgage rates of 15.4% - circa 1989-91 - that was fun ;)

P1Fanatic 09 April 2004 11:03 AM

The housing market is mental in Berks - demand far outstrips supply even with new developments going up every week. You have to be quick as anywhere nice or well priced is snapped up within days. Estate agents are selling houses within days and some within hours.

Simon.
