I'd say it depends on the people involved. I know some people whose relationship has worked, but others that haven't

Johnny50 22 March 2004 08:16 PM

Yep, definatley depends on the people involved, and the amount of effort you are both willing to put into it.

It didnt work for me (im in Edinburgh, she was in Essex)

But thats not to say it wont work for you. :)

I'd say give it a go. The world is "getting smaller" with all the different ways to easily keep in touch these days.

John.

i.d. - you are warped :D, slipping the odd one up the tradesman's entrance ( when batter conditions allow ) is one thing, but nearly every post I have seen of yours mentions backdoor frolicks in one way or another - I'll give you a virtual campaign medal for your efforts :)

As for long distance love.......can't comment, the furthest I have been commited to is Wythenshawe - about 5 miles down the M60, every other bird I have *courted* lived within a mile of me ( lazy barsteward :) ). I met Mrs mj on a club 18-30 in Faliraki about 10 yrs ago - turns out she only lived 300 yds round the corner - RESULT!:), especially since she lets me.....

Reib - If you can spare the time & money go for it :)

Markus 22 March 2004 08:43 PM

Jerome - I don't mind about the 'soccer' thing, mainly as I really dislike footy, only watched it if it was a big england game, otherwise, sorry, not my bag. Hockey, now, that I do like. Football, wel, in same league as 'soccer' it's crap. Baseball is ok though, and this year I intend to get to a Leafs and Jays game, that said the prices for seats at the leafs games are fecking silly.

One other thing that might be worth a shot. See how long you can come over here *on holiday* ;) have a feeling it's six months, might be wrong though, and come over for as long as you can. Or get her to go to England. The idea being a 'trial run' kinda thing. OK, it's not easy with work n all, so a full six months might not be on, but you really need at least a month of two.

Reib 23 March 2004 12:08 AM

Yeah, I was thinking of that Markus. I was thinking I'd go over there soon, then she was on about coming over here....then I'd see if I could go over there for about a month or 2 and really see how we got on. God, I know I keep on saying this, but I really want this to work :)

Jerome 23 March 2004 01:34 AM

Markus - I'm not a huge footie fan either (proof being that I support QPR ;) ) but "soccer" seems to crop up a lot with the guys at work. They're curious why it's the UK national sport and can't understand the relative lack of interest in North American sports (which I have zero interest in).

Reib - one last thing. If you're a coach potato, be prepared to sit through 3 hours of annoying adverts for every 4 milliseconds of actual programs or films.

Reib 23 March 2004 04:21 PM

LOL Jerome....yeah I got a teaste of that when I was in New York.....it drove me crazy!! :)

Jay m A 23 March 2004 04:32 PM

Too right about the telly. I watched 10mins of adverts before the Simpson's came on - eventually the opening credits started then straight to adverts  The bloody episode hadn't even started

Coincidentally, was talking to a colleague at work whose best mate met an American girl on the internet last year and apparently they are getting married in the summer, so there you go...:)

Butkus 23 March 2004 06:03 PM

I met someone a few years ago who in my mind was pretty close to 'the one', but she was all booked to go travelling for a year two months later. Unfortunately I think I was a bit more keen than her and she finished it before she went away. I was prepared to wait, and go and visit her a couple of times, but she didn't want to do that. It made me sick to think what she might be doing whilst away, and while I sat in my deary office.

I got over it after about a year, but I still think about her now! The search goes on...

I think if both parties are equally keen that's pretty much all you need - you can overcome most things. I wish you luck, and if she's as keen then it will work out. If not, then sorry to be cliched, but it wasn't meant to be.

It seems everyone has experienced similar situations to yours, and it would be nice to see it work out for someone!

GOOD LUCK!

I agree about the TV, bloody annoying to say the least. Films are the worst. Starts of with about 30 secs of ads every 10 mins or so, then as the film goes on the ads get more frequent and longer, it's mad. Oh and talk about cutting a film to shreds, grrrr. They advertise films as 'uncut' and yet they are still cut, what's with that? madness!

Thankfully I've got the movie network which is great, no ads, no cuts, and new releases too, plus decent HBO stuff like The Sopranos and Dead Like Me.

There's a few people here who also think it's odd us brits don't watch "football" or baseball. I pointed out that we have what is known as rugby, which is what football is trying to be, and failing, in the most spectacular way, plus it does not take 3 hours to play a game of rugby because our players are not all doped up fools.
I also went on to point out that having a "world series" does usually entail having more than one country, excluding canada, participating, for example, world rugby champ and world cup.
