WRX Rich
Noted your problem with wind noise.
MY01's are prone to the bolts coming out of the electric window winder motors.
Just pop your doorcard off to check they are all in place. Can cause the glass to tilt slightly and you loose the seal

I've owned an MY01 for over two years now. It's done nearly 55K miles with just normal servicing. I've had a n/s shock replaced under warranty. Only other major failure was an exhaust gas temp sensor (also replaced under warranty). Clutch does judder (I've owned 2 Scoobs, classic and new and had a total of 4 clutches - they've all juddered eventually) occassionaly (when cold, OK when warm).

Other than that it has been pretty much faultless - it does a normal 100 mile commute, the odd track day, trips across Europe etc etc. Recommended (although you really do need to change the lights!).

Only mods on mine are Eibach springs, decent lights, spoiler and exhaust. Speed wise, mine has never felt any slower than my MY00. It certainly handles better , as the car feels a lot more rigid.

Would I have another one? Yes, it wasn't hoping to get an STI later in the year :)

Chris

Edited to say that the water slooshing sound you hear is probably just a bit of air in the cooling system. Boxer engines do seem prone to this and you have to fill the car very carefully (i.e. slowly) when adding coolant, otherwise, you'll get air in the system and the noise. It doesn't seem to affect it and I have known quite a few Scoobs (old and new) do this.

:)

Agree with yoza

I run a MY02, spent a fortune on mods so far, Wish I had bought an Sti, however still think it's the best impreza i've owned and the mods transform it.

Had my 01 WRX since new too (July 01) and had a couple of minor things replaced under warranty.Be careful with Scoobynet though as once you get into this site,it's very easy to pick up on the modifying bug and then spend god knows how much money making your car:

* Go faster
* Stop better
* look better
* Handle better

I bought mine with the intention of keeping it standard, and sadly, that never happened (I dread to think how much mine stands me now :( but who cares, they are brilliant to drive, good value for money (Secondhand) and attract lots of attention (Some unwanted I must admit!!))

Good luck anyway

Nick

I personally think-to sum it up,the classic is more of a balls out racer which is looking a bit dated(but still looks great). The bugeye is the best allrounder, which is more sedate what with the power coming in smoother, has great handling and the build quality is MUCH better(i even prefer the interior to my old MY97 M3 EVO BMW),but if you decat it partially(up/down pipes)leaving the center cat in ,it is much more responsive than the classic and gives you the kick back that the classic has and it feels like a balls out racer with the higher quality ride/interior.And all for a very reasonable price!!!!

I would never go back to a classic.:)

easy

Thanks for your views Nick, We have actually been using SN since we bought the Terzo 18months ago just couldn't get back in using our Nick n Jewels name! so we are aware of the spending bug!!
This only started coz a guy knocked on the door asking if we wanted to sell......off on the WRX trail then!

Jewels-Terzo 06 March 2004 08:54 AM

Now that's a fine example and a damn nice looking car Chris

Hi there, my 52 plate wrx is up for sale imminently, having just been put back to standard.

http://edbartlett6649.fotopic.net/p548335.html

Will have a number of sti / prodrive extras: mats, uk300 lip, fog covers, mudflaps, morrette headlights with Xenon bulbs, sti carbon wing inserts.

May consider leaving the wheels on also.

Done 22k, just had underbody and 20k service.

PM me if interested. Great cars, mine has never missed a beat apart from a cam sensor change.

Chris L 06 March 2004 03:07 PM

Cheers Jewels :)

The only things I really wasn't keen on were the lights and the 'stilt' look on the standard springs. I knew both things could be easily fixed, so I wasn't too bothered.

The mod thing does keep biting though :) The Morettes ended up with an HID conversion, the back box turned into a down pipe and centre section. Then a Rally Tech spoiler. Prodrive quickshift etc etc :). The 18" alloys came with the car which was a result.

Most of the changes are cosmetic, I haven't done anything serious to the engine. The decent exhaust makes a huge difference though.

Seems all scooby owners are magicians!!

The car as bought always turns into something better! LOL!!

Yorkie 06 March 2004 08:27 PM

I had a MY99 turbo for 3 years. Now I have an MY02. After the "newness" wore off after 12 months I felt the need for more power to bring it up to my MY99 in performance terms. I fitted PPP and now I think I have a better car than my MY99, better ride, better interior, better soundtrack from PPP exhaust :D and more secure handling. All in my opinion of course :) There is no doubt though that my MY99 was the better looking car. But as they say "you don't look at the fireplace when you are stoking the fire"

Scoobychrissy

I saw Your car today at Well Lane :D :D :D :D .....Many apologies for the gender swap :)

kin quick 08 March 2004 10:09 AM

Had mine since new for 18months (yes, I lost lots!!)
Promised myself i'd keep it standard..........

............didnt last long!!!

First Scoob i've ever had and love it to pieces, full decat, dump valve and induction kit, EcuTEK3 coming in 2 weeks. It's not exactly slow at the moment but it's never quite quick enough, hence spending never stops :D
Standard handling is "ok" but definately get at least the geometry setup, then go for Eibachs, handles great after that.
Build quality is alot better than I expected, had an E36 320i Beemer before, and its very close in the quality and build stakes

Good luck

Ross

Edited to say, Eibachs not fitted yet so it currently hits the clouds

kend 08 March 2004 10:47 AM

Have an 01 WRX wagon

Clutch judder when cold.
Clutch smell if reversing up hill

The brakes aren't really up to the job if driving quickly. Needs a brake upgrade before thinking about making it go faster.

DaveR 08 March 2004 10:50 AM

....love my MY02

got it from Holland so like to kid myself that I had more money to spend on mods than otherwise.....

after the following mods I now truly think it is smart and swift! -->

TSL Thundercat downpipe, decat centre and GrpN backbox
Ecutek3
STI8 Intercooler
Eibach springs
24mm Whiteline ARB
Solid rear droplinks
Strut brace
Anti-lift kit
4 wheel laser align
Goodyear F1s
Morettes
STI5-style spoiler
Coded sills
Quickshift
Defi gauges
GrpN brakes

Whoever it was who said Scoobynet was a dangerous place for weak-minded people with credit cards, was dead right :D:D:D:D

DaveR, loving it

Boddington 08 March 2004 09:16 PM

Kend,
Always thought the brakes weren't up to much on the terzo, soon rectified with a set of Tarox 40 groove discs and Redstuff pads!!!! Stonking brakes now! Such entertainment watching the car behind trying to follow me into bends!

What an evil swine I am.

Boddington 08 March 2004 09:21 PM

I think I am definitely sold on the idea of an 01/02 WRX having read this lot.
Just gotta wait and see if my buyer for my Terzo is genuine.
Will keep ya posted guys and dolls.
Thanks for all your help.
Nick.

The brakes aren't really up to the job if driving quickly
You ain't kidding mate!! :(

I've just fitted the Prodrive/Alcon 330mm disk and caliper upgrade on mine in the hope that the thing will stop properly from speed now!! (It's possible to have some brown trouser moments with the standard disks and pads if you start upgrading with more power!!! :D) lol

Nick

kend 09 March 2004 08:21 AM

Am just waiting for my annual bonus, to pay for brake upgrade.
I use mine for response driving for ambulance service, and have had a couple of brown trouser moments so far.
Once I stopped shaking the look of abject terror on the face of the Jag driver who had just pulled out in front of me, for that brief moment when neither of us knew if I was going to be able to stop, did provoke a little chuckle.

Apologies for resurrecting this old thread.........:norty:

This has been the most informative thread that I have come across on SN to date :) For instance I'd wondered about he sloshing sound and found the answer in here ;). Ditto for clutch judder

I'm just wondering if anyone has found any more faults and associated fixes ?
One thing that no-one seems to have mentioned is the alloys. Has anyone had any minor corrosion on their "spokes". I'm interested to see if anyone has managed to extract a new set from Subaru UK under warranty

Hoping to hear from you MYo1/02 owners ;)

Thanks

Cal ( just took receipt of a MY02 two days ago)

~~ Cal ~~ 14 January 2005 07:01 PM

Also what your thoughts on these spoiler risers ? IMHO they look rather tasty but it seems that the general consensus is "NO" ! ???

~~ Cal ~~ 17 January 2005 12:32 PM

A very useful thread relating to alarm problems in here :-
