Although perhaps you didn't use the space as planned, as the kid fell asleep, you'd every right to park in it, as 'you' were technically a mother & child. It could be a moral issue - perhaps if a disabled person had come along & been short of a space, then you'd have moved, which would have been good, I suppose.

Moral issue though...:D it's a friggin' parking space, not someone taking heroin :)

That's true enough. I don't park in them, as I'm not a mother, a child, or disabled, but I wouldn't anyway. I don't need to.

I see your point though. I find it's quite rare that those spaces are ever used, when I go there, to be honest. Someone has to use them after all. It's just that it would be your choice as to whether you think you should use it. That's where the moral issue is, I agree.

However, I do think people should keep their noses out of other's business, up to a point. He did have a child in the car after all, asleep or not.:)

It was her business if she was trying to help, she made it so. As already stated, if the vehicles occupants intend on leaving then there isn't a problem. It's when they remain in the car when it's unnecessary that stinks.

of all the things on the planet to get worked up about parking at tescos isn't even in my top 10000.

FCUK it Misty, fair play mate, you had a kid in the car and if you drive a scoob too you don't want some "Old Biddy" steering her trolly into your car.. I always use the wider spaces purely for that reason!!! :D

Oh but I'm sure it would be your number 1 if you needed the space everytime you shopped and without one you had to wait on average 20-30 minutes before you could park or alternatively return home.

Thing is, if the kid woke up, as he said, they would followed into tesco, & made the parking legitimate. It didn't though, & that's the only problem. I don't know, as I wasn't there:).

You've caught me out! the reason for having children, was to have grandchildren, then I could park in extra wide bays and save my scoob from a trolley/door scraping.

Mother and baby spaces are usually situated as close to the store as possible for convenience and for safety as 90% of the adult population still drive too fast round car parks. In this instance having a child asleep in the back and using an M&B space is not necessary and only serves to prevent another mother/father from walking their child to the store using the safest and shortest path.

Technically (at Tescos at least) you have to sign up for a badge to be eligible to use a M&B space so as you had your grandaughter in your car I'm assuming you don't have one (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Definately a matter of morality though (although not of the highest kind) but I probably only think about it because I have a 3 year old.

WRT disabled parking I never use them. Saw an ad once that said something like "is this the only time you want to take my place" and has stuck with me ever since.

A friend had an interesting incident a few weeks back though. She went to Tescos with her three toddlers and got to the only M&B space left to be beaten there by a disabled bloke :eek: There were loads of disabled spaces but he couldn't be arsed to drive there as they were situated a couple of rows up. Surprisingly my mate got out of her car and had it out with the guy who refused to give it up. Oddly enough his first reaction was to tell her to use a disabled spot :confused: Was to be his biggest mistake though as she ripped into him so badly that he got back in his car and buggered off.

there is no law,its private property and up to the owner,usually the ratailer but sometimes a separate landlord,to police their own carpark policy.

Mother and baby spaces are there for a reason,its difficult getting a baby out of a child seat and a pram out of the back,you need room and invariably the doors open wide,plus,and some of you have forgotten this,very few carparks have footpaths,you are forced to walk in the traffic flow.Whereas the m+b spaces allow the driver to reverse against a footpath,so they can safely get to the store.

Its selfish to sit in one and deny a parent the opportunity to access their car and the store itself,safely,its that simple.They aren't there to allow mum the shortest distance back to the car where dad and kiddy are enjoying a ding free space :)

I was at my local Asda on Sunday and it was packed. However, there were plenty of spaces at the far end of the car park.

I noticed 2 women in a new BMW take the last disabled space.I could see no disabled badge and they got out and walked off without "looking" physically disabled. I made a comment to them, and they just laughed at me and walked off.

I find that very very sad that people have no morals when it comes to the disabled spaces. What's even worse is those with disabled badges for their partners/children but appear to (ab)use the badge even if said disabled person is not with them....

I wish EVERY disability on these people in their future lives.

Spoon beat me to it, but if I ever saw you parking in a disabled parking space I would certainly park behind you so that you could not get out. It is disgraceful that some people are so selfish as to use those spaces. The fact that others do it does not qualify you to do the same thing. It is extremely selfish and very unfair on the disabled.

Sounds like Tesco's need to build a bigger car park. there is a tesco's within walking distance to me that i use when i haven't bothered to stop off at the sainsbury's that i pass on the way home. going to tesso's is like a trip to the third world. last time i went in there i counted 1 of about a dozen checkout staff wearing uniform. the rest seemed to be wearing casual clothes. not that i GAS but it is indicative of the state of management of the store. the car pak resembles a breaker's yard...
