Peugeot 306 1.9 TD, bought new 5 years ago, 500mls to a tank.:)

Nissan Cherry 1.3, Gift from friend with 6mnth tax and 12mnth MOT, ideal for leaving at the train station each day, and the pub. Drives like new 86000mls....:D

A 'classic' 1988 1.6L Cavalier as well as the Scoob. Plus a Merc Sprinter at work too.

Not sure of the point of having a second car, (unless you do massive miles) surely a Subaru is practical enough and not that expensive to run to be an only car. I get about 23mpg on average from an MY00, I can get 5 people in fairly comfortably and my golf clubs fit in the boot (and my Pringle sweater!).

If I had an Elise or something then I'd say a 2nd car is essential, but I just love driving my car all the time!

My Impreza is the cheap car I use for shopping etc.

I've got a Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 - for those supermarket runs....(one way of avoiding getting those dents on the doors!)

The idea being that you can leave the car in a public car park for example and not worry if it gets door dinked etc (something that I would mind very much happening to my Scoob).

Take into account tyres, economy, type of fuel (no need for SUL in my Metro) and because my trip to work is only 5 miles not killing the engine because it never gets properly warm - I think you'll find there is a big difference in running costs.

It's also nice to get back into the scoob after the metro and realise what I've got - something I don't appreciate when using it all the time.

I understand the door dinking thing, that is a real b*gger. I have a radical solution though, have a baby (as I just have) then you're allowed to park in the big wide family spaces at Sainsburys! Alternatively just buy a child seat and pretend!

I would just begrudge driving a Metro/Datsun Cherry etc. when I've paid to insure an Impreza! It kind of defeats the object of having a nice car.

On the contarary, I found that the 2nd car is ideal. My scoob is immaculate (well is almost, after 5 years of everyday use).

But a 2nd, cheap car is perfect. The sunny returns 35mpg locally and about 40mpg on a run, compared to 22mpg and 27mpg for scoob. Also the value of scoob is maintained through its limited milage, and it's condition is maintained as it won't accumalate as many parking dents.

Sunny, costs almost nothing to service (DIY). Tyres cost eff all. And its value is already rock bottom, so you can park it anywhere and not be bothered about parking dings. I also loose the paranoia over safe places to park it, can dump it on the pub car park overnight if I need to. If it gets nicked...not really bothered about it. And Tax is £100odd (engine is below 1.3).

It all makes sense - and you appreciate the scoob so much more when you jump in it :D

also if you get another car, you can register it in someone elses name and then drive it on ur scoob insurance 3rd party? is that right? would they still be able to tax it i wonder?

Not really, but I suppose we just use my girlfriend's Micra for the same thing, that way I still get to drive mine every day.

3 weeks into ownership of River 214Sli, gift from Grandmother as she has now stopped using it. Absolutely ideal, scoob now in garage, or will be when new bathroom is installed this week, and now for use on weekends and sunny days.

Silly to leave your pride and joy in the supermakret car park or at the station, and I ams sure it does not do the scoob any good when its only weekeday run is five minutes up the road to the shops.

i agree with the appreciate what you've got thing. after i've been away for a week or so and jump in the sccob you realise what an awesome motor it is and appreciate it alot more:)

I have a peanut aka Diesel Corsa for through the week and the scooby for the weekend.

Mrs P has the pleasure of the scoob during the week... I get my Nissan Sunny 1.6 GL saloon, power steering, electric windows all round, stereo, sunroof that I daren't open and 109,000 miles on the clock! Great fun to drive!

Some git stole the numberplates the other day though!

jason: you can't do that - the other car needs to have a policy of some sort on it for you to be covered third party

Weekdays - Train....it's never on time. There always seems to be someone in MY seat and it's about as economical as Concorde (if you get my drift) :rolleyes:

Week Nights - The missus's MX-5. Good laugh to drive, VERY economical cos she fills it up but a little on the small side for me (I'm 6ft 3) ;)

Weekends - HELLO gorgeous - it's playtime in the Scoob :D

Toyota Yaris T-Sport for the week whilst the P1 is tucked up in bed.

Gulf GTi H reg but it has PAS, E/W, leather inerior, Spex adjustable suspension and Fox 17 inch alloys. Quiet reliable and comfortable car though

I too got tired of 16-18 mpg, so bought an Alfa 156 2.4 Diesel. Great fun to drive, fairly good handling, and pretty quick for a diesel (0-60 in around 8.5, its been chipped :) ). Still gives 40-45mpg.

Kept the Scoob mileage low with the use of other cars for every day tasks and it's a good selling point. However, I can't help thinking that someone else is going to get the best of my car now that it's up for sale.
Definitely won't be avoiding using my next motor. What's the point of having a fantastic car and keeping it in the garage?

im thinking of getting a second car as me and the missus have just moved into our own place and there is no parking whatsoever, so my old man said i can put my scoob in his garage. thinking about getting my next door neighbours old datsun thingy.

Strangely enough just been to look at a D reg Volvo 760 GLE estate for £500. I do way to many miles to keep killing the Scoob and the Volvo will Eat the miles between here and Bristol twice a week and also fit the Dog, Bikes etc etc etc etc in easily......

I intend to drive it to death...lol

Got a MY03 WRX and Astra Turbo Coupe Usually Use The Scoob For Everything.

Iv'e got a luverly 1.0L rusty red Fiesta.The scoob only comes out to play at the weekend.

ive gotta BMW 325, but thats gonna go sone for a scooby, that will be my daily car!!!

Sounds like im mad to do this as im not loaded, but i dont go out driving in the weekends, so have my fun going to and from work!!!

Work away most of the week in battered old, non-turbo diesel escort van. I know the UK classic aint fast enough for some of you but mine keeps me smiling all week knowing its waiting for me in the garage.

Yes guilty as charged 1.1 Corsa for work same old reasons petrol,mileage etc etc.Save the Scoob for fun times !!!!!;)
