Well guys on track it could be different....suppose you guys have heard of mellow....well when he had his P1 which was well sorted and ruuning slicks and he can drive, we recorded round croft a lap time of 1m43s.

Now at the last round of the VW cup at croft they manged 1m37s and taht was a VR6 closely followed by get this a Lupo GTI!!!! that also managed a time of 1m37s....thats six seconds.

my scoob understeered like a pig on track...my golf turns in far better...mind on coilovers.

The weight of my golf is 900kg, a scoob is 1250 ish??? chuck a powerfull lump in tuned TT as mentioned and im sorry the laws of physics take over power to weight ratio.

as mentioned you just cant gage one car with another as drivers differ so much and some are prepared to loose there liscense or life.

good look against the golfs etc...just watch out for the real quick ones LOL

That lupo gti is a turbo, it's the secretary at work's son ;) His bro's got a mk1 golf gti, is 2nd to the lupo in the championship. There's also a R32 in the championship which recently changed hands for 56k. The mk1 golf is close to standard and after the blast to the first corner it destroys the R32. Put the mk1 against a scooby and it'll get it's butt kicked.

But at the end of the day it doesn't matter what car ur in if u can't/can drive. I've beaten a scooby and a 911 in a nova on a twisty road(yes they were tryin cos i've spoken to them since) I've also been destroyed by the scooby drivers mate in the same car. I've beaten an R32 the wet but been matched by a v5 on the same road. The only way to compare car's is back to back tests, too many variable's otherwise

what was under the bonnet of the Nova?

LEE P 09 August 2003 12:31 AM

concorde....:D

Lupo gti is 150 bhp.....i read it on the vw cup website... still lapped 6 seconds quicker than a well piloted P1....thats a big margine.

oh and well done with the nova

My dads got the golf gti 1.8t and it goes alright but until the turbos spinnin its quite sluggish and if u wanna boot it from crawlin u need to get revs up 1st. The handling is also far to soft and is quite scary brakin @ speed on b roads. A scoob would kill it!!!

planky 09 August 2003 11:02 PM

Have a look at this site for 1.8t conversions.

golfliam 10 August 2003 11:56 AM

Pretty obvious that a scooby would kill a standard 1.8t

But most who would want to play should at least be chipped...
and have the suspension sorted....

1.8t is the engine of choice now for conversions into mk1 and mk2
pic up any of the VW mags and you'll see at least one of these conversions in a mag each month

As for a standard 1.8t needing lots revs..... i think he should go and get it checked out - it has a flat torque curve of 155 lbs from about 2000 rpm and then get it chipped....

16vmarc 10 August 2003 01:51 PM

simon, i say it needs revs as i have driven it and slowed right down for cyclists on a back road and after passin them put my foot down and nothing happened. When i sed scoob would kill it i meant handlin, as its obviously gonna out power it!!!

speedy_gonzalis 10 August 2003 02:17 PM

hello ppl... i would just like to say that my old man has a golf its the gt tdi 02 plate 150bhp its no bad off the mark and once its picks up it shifts no probs so well we decide to get some sort of super chip in it i think it called a smart box its something to do with it because its a turbo diesel its not sitting at 190bhp and am gonna de-cat it and get some kinda induction kit in it and it should take it to 200 no bad for a diesel golf, i feel as if its dis not grip the road it feels as if there is to much power it sort of wheels spins in second gear and sometimes in 3rd i was told it has a **** load of tourqe !

Simon S3 10 August 2003 04:48 PM

16vmarc,

As said previously by golfliam and myself, a Golf 1.8T should pull pretty good from low revs due to the torque peak occuring at 1750 rpm. I had one for two years so I know what I`m on about!

golfliam 08 September 2003 02:11 PM

The Lupo is Jabba prepared
A recent VW Magazine had a little shoot out between 4 of Jabba's cars

2 350 bhp Ibiza's, their old 400bhp mk4 demo, and the Lupo

The 2 Ibiza's did 0-100 in around 10.5 seconds - they were within a fraction of a second of each other - 1 of them is the Jabba demo car...

The Golf only managed 0 - 100 in about 13 seconds - the test gearbox they had in it wasn't working very well aparently

can't remember what time the Lupo did but it was quicker than the Golf but slower than the Ibiza's

The lupo is limited to 180 bhp for racing regulations but they don't have a limit on torque so its producing over 265 lbs of torque.

16vmarc,

A Golf 1.8T goes OK from low revs due to the fact that the torque (155 lb/ft)is produced from around 1,750 rpm!

Of course a scoob will kill it, due to the extra power (221 bhp plays 150 bhp) and torque (221 lb/ft at 4,000 rpm for a WRX), but to say to Golf needs revs is quite wrong.
