Kawasaki KLF 400 :D
Need to strip down the carb as it's not running too good atm. That said, the flames from the exhaust are:cool:

Stevie 02 July 2003 02:04 PM

BS,

Surely a 1.6 Vitara engine and a decent exhaust is a far easier option. It will mate straight to the gearbox, might even go on existing engine mounts.

AB

Never seen a V8 SJ. Have seen a V8 'thing' with an SJ body. Absolute crap IMHO, totally removes the main thing the SJ has going for it, lack of weight.

Badger Stuffer 02 July 2003 02:12 PM

Steive...... understand the weight issue but it would give it amazing climbing capabilities.

The Virata engine is a good idea. This site does loads of goodies along with a Vitara upgrade kit but I still want the feel and outright power of a V8.

Look at the ones on the site. Quite mad.

:D

Stevie 02 July 2003 02:31 PM

BS,

The weight thing shouldn't be too much of a problem, it's the actual fitting it into the engine bay, and mating it to the gearbox, and the gearbox being happy. The gearbox might be OK if the V8 is tired, but a pleasant engine's torque wont do it any favours at all.

Having seen a good 16 years of peoples idea's as to what constitutes an ideal off roader, I honestly think the Vitara engine, exhaust, and a reduction in the low range gearing, all running on nothing bigger than 215's will be far more capable and reliable, and therefore cheaper, than a V8.

Oh, and for the record, a V8 will fit into a Jimny, just:):)

cast iron SJ lump is not going to work out much heavier than an alloy Rover V8.....there'll be some serious metalwork involved though... ;)

I've also seen a coil conversion on one of the leaf-sprung SJs - looks pretty useful...

I would post a pic of my old 4.5 V8 landrover racer....but I don't know how to do it.... :(

Badger Stuffer 02 July 2003 02:35 PM

Mail it to me and I'll post it for you.

:D

andrew6321 02 July 2003 02:37 PM

coming over... :)

Paulo P 02 July 2003 02:38 PM

I want a go :( My mate at work used to do it but he sold his 4.0 V8 landie last year and doesn't do it anymore :(

Gixerman 02 July 2003 02:46 PM

My other 4 wheel drive play thing!!:D:D....not quite as fast as the scoob though!!

BS

LOL...I had only had it a week when this pic was taken, glad to say it's now sports a nice shade of 'Muddy-Brown':D:D

Badger Stuffer 02 July 2003 03:11 PM

Fair enough....No more excuses though....:D

ian_sadler 02 July 2003 04:39 PM

I've been thinking about a bit of 4x4 mud fun with it being so difficult to appreciate the scoob on the road these days and with tracks being so expensive.

I've been looking for a reasonable landy for a while now.

When you going next BS?

Badger Stuffer 02 July 2003 04:50 PM

Ian. Probably gonna go this Sunday if we can but not until about 3 O'clock. If not then then the week after.

:D

You more than welcome to come along.

Defender....Now thats a real 4x4.

I know a guy who has a Lada Viva with a Alfa/fiat engine in it. Its bloody fast for what it is!! And with good tyres it will go through just about anything

Badger Stuffer 03 July 2003 10:03 AM

I spent fecking ages last Sunday dragging a Lada Niva out of holes when it kept getting stuck.

:D
