Luke

I read your post before I wrote mine & that is my reply. I do not feel the need to edit it.

I would like to draw your attention to part of a post I wrote this afternoon, again made partly in response to one of yours...

What I would ask is that everyone read the Rules, Polices and Disclaimers again, then consider the implications or possible outcomes of any of their posts BEFORE they click the submit button.

If you missed it, then read it in it's entirety HERE.

Highway Code

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
218. DO NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriosuly inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheel chairs, the visually impaired and people with prams or pushchairs.

Puff the Magic Wagon:

There were at least another 30-40 cars parked the same way as I was, and yet only 3 of us got tickets. In my original post I wasn`t complaining that I got the ticket, I was unhappy about the guys attitude. But, if I got a ticket, why didn`t everyone, when we were all parked partly on the pavement??????

Ming

I know you weren't, I was just stating the Highway Code for the benefit of those that were possibly not aware of it, in order to hopefully quieten this thread before more inflamatory posts on the subject come in...

At a possible guess (& IMHO) I would imagine that instead of exactly applying the law, he maybe ticketed those whom he saw as the worst offenders & thus showing "common sense" & a reasoned approach...

Dunno, I wasn't there & I know its a complete bummer when you get a ticket when everyone else doesn't - been there & had it happen :(

Attitude is something else, but once again I wasn't there to observe both sides.

All the best.

:)

Ming the Merciless 27 February 2003 10:39 PM

Hey, I`m a little pissed about it, but it`s no reason to fall out with anyone over it. I didn`t want to create a thread where people were raging at each other, just thought originally that it might be an interesting post.

I`ll keep my misdemeaners to myself in future. LOL.

I don't have to do diddly.

If I think that in your [un-edited] postings you are stiring or bashing or in contravention of any of the things that you agreed to adhere to when you signed up to this BBS, then I will say so.

At the time of my posting and in the matter to which they address, they will be correct & fitting to both reply and subject.

I don't need to edit whole posts to change their meaning in order to strike an argument further down the thread.

Just thought I'd copy your lst post before you edited it for the 3rd time

Luke 27 February 2003 10:52 PM

Original post...true Dont blame you. But it was a name mistake. I held my hands up and edited it.

But lets not forget.... Some people have a right/reason, whatever to hate the police ( I dont ) they are entitled to voice that opinion.

Burr can look after himself!!!

Luke 27 February 2003 11:01 PM

Nothing wrong with editing....I made a mistake and corrected it.

im a an ex british champion thai boxer and would probably deal with you no problem
I've heard that line sooooo many times in the past. I find it funny most of the time when someone brags that they're the best there is, best there was and the best there ever will be and get beaten without their opponent breaking into a sweat. There's always gonna be someone bigger, stronger, younger or faster that can take you on no matter how good you are.

As for me I'm a man of peace. But never mistaken my peaceful and friendly nature for weakness as some found out in the past. I just like making new friends and stuff.

I can also vouch for BuRR. He's one of the nicest blokes I've known. You guys have to keep in mind that unlike what you see in the telly, cops are just normal people trying to do their jobs.

"I can also vouch for BuRR. He's one of the nicest blokes I've known"

Well. Now that i know he's Human..I will try to see eye to eye with him a bit more...

Katana 28 February 2003 12:34 AM

You don't have to like someone's views to get along with them (unless its some extremist views like the B*P). I mean I've got soldier friends who's gonna be shipped out soon and I'm totally opposed to war and they know it. If a person is good then the guy/gal is cool by me regardless what they do for a living.

TurboKitty 28 February 2003 01:59 AM

In a choice between BuRR and many of the other users of this board, I am certain who I'd rely upon to be sensible and approachable.

I've met several members of this board who are in the police force and they're all intelligent, reasonable people.

To be honest, and this is just my opinion, the way you get treated by the police depends to a large extent on your attitude towards them. Sure, sometimes there will be exceptions, but if the way certain people come across on here is anything to go by, I can understand why they might not be treated quite the way they'd like to be.

Having said that, I've never had a major problem with any member of the police force. Maybe I have been lucky, and perhaps my opinion would change if I were to encounter what I consider to be unfair treatment.

In this case it would seem that the parking ticket was justified. Aside from the guidelines on parking on the pavement, The Highway Code states you should not park opposite or within ten metres of a junction, except in an authorised parking space. I would say that in only writing tickets for three of the cars, the policeman was being reasonable and using common sense. IMO, if he'd had some sort of vendetta he'd have put tickets on all of them.

Mice_Elf 28 February 2003 07:35 AM

At the risk of being called Dolly, I would agree with TK above. I've met BuRR and some of the other police that post on this board and have the utmost respect for what they do and the people and attitudes with which they have to deal on a day to day basis.

This is not to say I haven't had my run-ins with the police and yes, I have been caught speeding about which I wasn't too happy, obviously. My fault, though, so a case of bollards, I'm a muppet... So saying, I have managed to get out of it, but that's another story.

Police are only doing their job and quite often only start citing law and issuing producers when the attitude of the person to whom they are speaking gets out of hand.

You were parked in the wrong, accept it, move on.

Pavlo 28 February 2003 09:03 AM

Well, if i had tried to get round that junction I would have been cursing the fecking idiots that parked right on the corners and opposite the junction.

People who park in those places deserve a ticket. And without checking, i am quite sure that parking within 15yards of a junction is illegal.

Paul

chiark 28 February 2003 09:38 AM

Ming, I know where you're coming from regarding the parking... I think it's just one of those things that is annoying, and there's bugger all you can do about it. I just waded in when comments like "reporting him for being a complete knob" came out. I'd be pissed off with getting a ticket (I was) and I'd think it was unfair. It's like the other day when a mate got a police escort for miles despite a cossie going flying past waaaay over the speed limit. Unfair, but life sucks sometimes.

Look at it from the other side of the fence - the side that the police are on. They've got an impossible task, and if someone has complained about the parking (and I've seen vindictive sods do this) then they are duty bound to investigate, otherwise when someone complains again you can guarantee the complainer will kick up all sorts of fuss...

Problem with a BBS is that things rapidly get out of hand due to people misunderstanding the intention of a post. Before you know it you've got Karate Kid part 3 being played out in front of your eyes (joke, guys :D ) and people saying that you just can't win against the police, despite court cases and massive evidence to the contrary...

Back to the original topic: feel for ya, BTDTGTTS *, complaining will do nothing as you're in the wrong. Life sucks, have a beer, have some genuine sympathy from me :D .

Cheers,

Nick.
