Fave road? The one I use to get to work from my girlfriends house.

It's the B2169 from Tunbridge Wells to Lamberhurst, Then go back towards Tunbridge Wells on the A21 and turn off onto the B2162 towards Horsemonden, I usually turn off about a mile down the road (where there is a sharp right hander, signposted Tong Lane) but sometimes just for the hell of it I continue on into Horsemonden as this is a nice little bit of road.

On a more serious note I seem to remember a half decent run down a road from the A34, south of Oxford, to Reading, goes past Goring and Pangbourne I think

North and Mid Wales are by far the best roads i have driven Lake Vyrnwy to Bala is certainly interseting if not a little narrow in places, but Hey that's all part of the fun !!

The A5, A4086 leading to the Llanerbis Pass and all the way down to the bottom of Snowdon (Fantastic), Airborne Regularly!
(this is where EVO Mag do a lot of testing - reconised it form the photos)

Re Near London Roads:

As mentioned in a very similar thread appx 4/12 ago, the B660 Bedford to A1 and over the other side eastwards is very good.

Mine is the 45 minute run from Moutier to Val Thorens - but in the scoob I did it in 25...
then just after Grenoble there are the mountain roads that take you to the South of France.... oh my....

but in the UK I have to say ... the Bracknell ByPass takes some beating http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ha ha

Did the A686 about a year ago with my boss in his modded Supra Twin Turbo. Fantastic road with the power & ability to nail five or more cars behind a truck at once. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Only problem was on the way back it was heaving with The Plod.

Just thought of another great road. Rally fans will surely know the road from Longtown, just north of Carlisle, up to Newcastleton, and over to Kielder forest. Dips and crests, smooth tarmac, fast sweeping bends and tight 2nd gear corners to flat out sections along the lake side. Brilliant!!

As confirmed in EVO, the B645 is one of the best roads in the country, especially from Higham Ferrers to St Neots.
I am hoping to arrange a Sunday afternoon drive at the next Northampton meet, and am currently reccing the route.

The road around Loch Fyne is a good laugh.

Garelochead to the A82 south of Luss (forget the name) is so good its scary.

And it has is own Eau Rouge!

This is the mid stretch of the old Manchester-> Abersoch run (A55 isn't much fun)

Only problem with the run are:

If the road is slightly damp - you end up getting stuck behind bikers - as you can get round the bends quicker, but can't get past them on the straights! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

If the road is dry (and especially on Bank Holidays) there are dips in the road that just hide a plod & gatso until your right on top of them! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

C'mon to the 2nd great north west meet (immense turnout last time).

A route is being planned as we speak that will be ~50 miles of mixed moorland roads on the Yorks/Lancs border around J22-23 of M62), all this and a pub as well!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Tony: used to live in Harrogate, actually some very, very nice roads near to the town as well. Not too many sheep as well!

I don't suppose anybody will believe this BUT
during the freeze of circa 78 ,I drove my 2002 from Langley vale (Epsom Downs ) to CJB London Marylebone in 20 minutes!!!!
Nobody was on the road ice snow no trains etc

The route:

Up to the downs past the Rubbing House
Down into Epsom Town
Through the town through The Kings Arms and then past the Organ Inn to Tollworth.
Driving like a lunatic acoss Putney Bridge
and into Shepherds Bush.
Around the circus and before you know it you are on the freeway and into Marylebone.
Park the old BM up and sign in!!!!!!!!!!

But for a real legend Dodd of Epsom drove from Turin to Calais at an average speed of 200 mph in a converted roller with a V12 spitfire engine in it and it returned something like 25mpg!

Unfortunately speed limits have now been imposed througout Europe now , so this record will most likely last forever.

Try the Mountain road from Ramsey to Douglas on the Isle of Man. 13 miles of twisty & open flowing bends, you can use most of the road most of the time, AND THERES NO SPEED LIMIT.

I agree with MarkF, when we used to have a propper RAC rally the road up to Castle O'er was the business!

Also loads of roads in mid Wales, (but not with RAC, sorry, Network Q, traffic!) Ok the night before the stages though, when the hard nosed rally fans are off to kip in the woods.

Found a good blaster of a road from Newark to Ollerton last weekend, No Traffic and just the occasional little village to slow down for.

As for London, how about Teddington to Bexleyheath in 35 mins, taking in the Palace, Westminster and Tower Bridge? That's what we used to do in our 4am runs a coule of years back, and that includes dodging the cameras.:-):-)

My route to work avoiding the M62 at junction 22. A640 from Denshaw up to Buckstones then a choice of straight B6114 to Greetland and Elland or more A640 to Outlane then Ainley Top and Brighouse. Some twisty, but the straight bits would grace some French N routes where you can see almost to the horizon.

Some snow up there this morning, first time my car has twitched, sort of matched my bottom at one point!

I have surveyed this as a possible route for the 50 odd cars for the Northern meet, but it seems I have been plagiarised by some tykes from Huddersfield! They of course will have sampled the boozers! (by taxi obviously)

Mine would have to be the week end road home from Breda in Holland where I am at the moment. You can witness this tomorrow as I will be 'in flight' at around 12 noon on the way home for Santa Pod.

100-110 all the way to Gent in Belgium, wick it up a bit across to Oostend, turn left and floor it down to Calais, this bit is great as the road is in excellent condition. The amazing this is it does not seem to matter what speed you are doing there will always be another British car who needs to get past you as he needs to get home a bit quicker.

Not especially Law abiding but exhilarating and the roads are never that busy... Anyway, at the speeds the Belgiums drive in their Mercs they can hardly complain...
