Hi velryba,

post two or three posts above should solve your problem.

Black screen then back to desktop instantly is normally a sign of an old video card driver or not running directx8.1 and it can't change to the correct resolution/refresh rate.

If you running a geforce card, check what drivers you are running, the 3.0.8.2 ones from nvidia (which came out in early august) fixed my black screen issue.

The proper way to fix this is to go into c:\program files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Demo\Settings and right click on VideoDefault.con. open the file with notepad and you should be presented with the following:

rem * TEMP *
renderer.setFullScreen 1
renderer.fieldOfView 1
renderer.globalLodRadius 1
renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 5
console.showStats 0
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

Now change the bottom line value to 1

Save, run the game and job done :)

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Nick :)

ok I went to the videodedefault.con and it seams there is a line missing:

rem * TEMP *
renderer.setFullScreen 1
renderer.fieldOfView 1
renderer.globalLodRadius 1
renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 5
console.showStats 0

now shall i just type the line you have there and save it?

cheers

well couldn't wait for a reply :)
so yes i've saved the line there but still the same

yes i have an old vga card (nvidia TNT)
but let me see if the new driver will help

cao for now

That old card isn't going to run it anyway.

What you do get on screen will be barely more than about 3 colours and a shadow of a hand.

Cheers,

Nick.
