Dave Y 11 July 2022 08:11 AM

This has to be up there with some of the best builds.

gc8simon 13 July 2022 08:32 PM

Thanks for the kind words people, there was
2 of us masking and took us just over half an hour. Never expected to be going so over the top but i am my own worst enemy and just keep pushing..

anyway got a few photos and bits to add up now, got the teins cleaned up and refitted
along with brake pipe clips and grommits etc
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...406b9dcb2.jpeg
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...deb61ea5b.jpeg

Then the new rear brake pipes turned up from ICP
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...6a2aa72a7.jpeg
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...ed844ea1d.jpeg

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...bab6dd8cc.jpeg
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...3a2b245db.jpeg
fuel tank wiped down, rust chased out on the seams and flaking sealer removed, then rust killed and coated with raptor.

Tubular rear subframe turned up to but unfortunatly fouls on a gusset bracket for the spare wheel on the top tube so the guy is
making a modified one to hopefully clear it.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...5c408b2aa.jpeg
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...da9a28982.jpeg

thats all for now everyone, cheers again.

NOSSY_89 14 July 2022 10:47 AM

Sti Group N trailing arm fitted with new bracket and hardware
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...1d8422bf5.jpeg

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...e41655a86.jpegHad a little issue with the tubular subframe on clearance but turned out i got sent the wrong one, so 3-4 weeks later we have a new one which fits. Thats currently at the powdercoaters as we speak

I'd disagree there mate. Looking at the pictures you've made loads of progress.

adam.pah 22 September 2022 12:06 PM

Hi Simon,

As Nossy says, there's a lot to show for it. Most of the hard, dirty work is done already so now you can start looking forward to installing the fun parts!
I'm really looking forward to seeing this one completed! :thumb:

gc8simon 22 September 2022 09:15 PM

Cheers fellas, probably being a little harsh on myself saying that, but an itch for a porsche 996 is really getting under my skin and coming between me and finishing this car.

Conor.s1 24 September 2022 08:45 AM

Please get the Porsche, stop building this and Pm me with the price you want for the carbon firewall and seat delete and the rear subframe.

:)

prrty please.

Matty81 24 September 2022 09:31 AM

I had an orange five 27.5 4yrs ago. Loved the thing. I wish I never got rid of it now. I’ve got a canyon neuron now.

Looks good that mate, im very on and off with mtbiking havent used mine for awhile. Had a few hours on the car over this week, main thing was to sort the rear diff out and paint it,

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...b1a0226e5.jpeg
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...04d97c38f.jpeg
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...365b2d67c.jpeg
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...d0fd4e7ac.jpeg
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...2c5fc0e27.jpeg

as you can see by the photos i have got all new bolts for the rear casing and the drain plugs, but then 3 bolts snapped on the bearing covers. Luckily managed to heat them up and get them out but the covers broke off parts of the lugs so i need to order both side covers+bolts and a gasket for the rear casing. Otherwise i got it wire wheeled and cleaned up and then sprayed matt black. End casing will be going silver.

Then ordered all the rear anti roll bar components from whiteline for the 24mm, 2 parts showed up still waiting for the actual arb, and need to order the new bolts for the mounting brackets

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...f3b7d79fd.jpeg
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...b66561671.jpeg
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...4fb95292d.jpeg

Then next couple of jobs ive being doing are cavity protection, using bilthamber products, and then to address some bare metal and surface rust on the outer sill areas before winter. Removed front wings and bumper just to check behind them, as i did underneath i havent bare metal'd everything as its crystal clear there isnt rust other than the areas obvious

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...327449027.jpeg
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...db6abbe7a.jpeg
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...033c30608.jpeg
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...3d45f565a.jpeg

The sills have had 2 coats of bilthamber on and left to cure will then put some paint over the top just to seal it all in for now. Exterior will eventually have a full respray so these areas will be covered properly at a later date. Then all i have left is just a couple of random photos ive taken, got a list of bits to order from subaru/icp and waiting on next payday.

cheers everyone.

rutt 29 September 2022 02:50 PM

Hi.
Going back to the rear arches.
Do you have any tips for removing the underseal to take it back too metal?
did you use just a grinder with twisted cups on ?

Hi mate, perserverance i guess. Fortunatly mine wasnt undersealed after factory because the tar just gets so messy. I had a grinder with twister cup attachments and a drill with various wire wheel heads off ebay which all makes short work of the factory stonechip protection.

Arch555 09 October 2022 03:27 PM

Where did you get your spoiler bottom trim from? Im after one for my ABW spoiler

For the bottom of the front bumper? The previous owner made it himself out of carbon fibre sorry.

in other news some new bits turned up for the rear differential, new end casing (had painted silver) diff bearing covers - orings and bolts
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...6c25011bd.jpeg
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...ce7cbae40.jpeg
So all painted up and all rebuilt with new casing, bolts, drain plugs, breather, bearing covers and bolts
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...d697a70e3.jpeg
Diff fitted up with new studs and nuts then new nuts and bolts for the powdercoated mount brackets on the diff outrigger. Also whiteline 24mm arb turned up. Not sure on all the gold
bits so may send them for powdercoat yet
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...43761bcf8.jpeg
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...25dfaf1ad.jpeg
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...da9dbb594.jpeg
Just placed an order for whiteline lateral arms, lateral arm bolt kit, backing plates, new bolts, abs tone rings + bolts, wheel bearings and flanges. Stay tuned

gc8simon 09 November 2022 09:51 PM

Well some of you might have seen a few weeks ago i decided to break the project car, i sold some big pieces off like the tubular subframe, cae shifter, carbon firewall delete, rcm exhaust and then regretted it all. So now done a massive U turn on the car and carrying on with it.

got all new rear hub assemblies built uphttps://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...f690c604f.jpeg
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...ff037f47f.jpeg
Bought some recently refurbished rear brembo's and Sti rear diff mount brace
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...08a506cee.jpeg
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...9dd8b2994.jpeg
Then onto some photos of standard subframe powdercoated, new mounting bolts and hardware for diff brace, Heatshields have been vapour blasted like new and fitted back on, whiteline rear arm set with all new bolt kit
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...e1cc12758.jpeg

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...0f6508013.jpeg
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...659c1389a.jpeg
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...f8b1659b4.jpeg
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...3c93797a6.jpeg
Next job is to get rear driveshafts all cleaned rust killed and painted up, refit them and get some diff oil in. Then find a new manifold and uppipe and try get exhaust all mated up ready to fire it back up

Iain FSTI 10 November 2022 07:39 AM

Wow! I was amazed to see you were breaking it Simon, then equally surprised you’re back on it again. It’s good to see you’ve got your mojo back. It’ll be worth it when it’s done.

Conor.s1 10 November 2022 08:31 AM

gutted i missed the CF firewall sale.
