Science and theism is perfectly compatible.

Whether they have been here or not is open to opinion. If they have the ability to travel half way across the universe they could easily observe us without us knowing. Also all the silly sci-fi films that see us battling aliens are a joke.
If they were friendly they would leave us alone & if they were aggressive they could wipe us out in the blink of an eye without us even knowing about it.

Turbohot 20 July 2015 06:05 PM

Or may be they're like feral cats who don't give a Fekk whether we/our planet exist or not! They probably just blank us and fly over us in their far superior aircrafts, as they have better things to do than do anything with/to us- good or bad. Perhaps they just leave us to bang our heads against one another.

Sos, Was about 900 pm quite dark and approx 4 mil es away , i saw 3 lights leave the ground at a 45 degree angle , join up approx 500 feet , and then go vertical at an amazing speed into the night sky. Dont know what it was but amazed me at the time an still does to this day

Stephen Hawkings suggests we should re-double our efforts

Was watching Discivery science a while back . Apparently. evidence is growing in the scientific community. that all the building blocks of life , oxygen, water and the rest of the concoction came to this planet in its infancy , so in a way , we are all aliens .

whatever we think extra terrestrial life might be, history says we will be wrong

Edmondo 20 July 2015 06:54 PM

Firm believer.......the only real intelligent life in the universe certainly will not be found on Planet Earth

Never said it wasn't. My argument is with those that use 'because science' as a reasoning for God not existing.

Not sure what you think science is, but it in reality it is pretty agnostic, it simply build theories based on (falsifiable/testable) evidence

It is not in itself for or anti anything

A scientific theory will (and has/does) change when better evidence/data comes along

Science NEVER claims to have all the answers, only an idiot would suggest otherwise

Ps a scientific "theory" has a specific meaning

Yes, I was just hammering home the point. As disparaging as it may sound, I find that there's a dearth of wisdom in ungodliness; this notion that because we are beginning to understand creation we can somehow do without Him. We want to be God and it brings in to stark relief the story of the tree of knowledge.

There is a movement called scientism, a philosophical position comparable to logical positivism.

dpb 20 July 2015 08:11 PM

Its so much waffle lol

hodgy0_2 20 July 2015 08:24 PM

Michael shermer nails it in this TED talk, informative a funny

Yes, I can understand why you would want to give it a "label"

It's valid and justified.

Oh for **** sake. :facepalm2: I really can't be arsed with clarifying yet a other point in this pointless discussion.

RS_Matt 20 July 2015 09:19 PM

We'd need to use the Earth's entire resources to get to our "2nd" nearest star and it would take 4,000 years at our current top speeds.

UFO's (other world crafts) exist but short of suddenly evolving near by they won't ever visit us.

...and no, using black holes is like jumping over a wave to get across the ocean.

Paben 20 July 2015 11:30 PM

In earth's history there has never been an example of an invading race treating the natives with anything approaching respect. I am sure an alien arrival would similarly prove very detrimental to human existence so, if they exist, I hope aliens go and land somewhere else.

I hope I have just as much of a cosmic experience if I ever see my watch reading 900pm ;)

(Sorry, cheap shot and only meant in jest).
