Try the Crown clean extreme. It is matt finish.
Don't go black. Look for something dark. |
Also don't apply clean extreme by brush. Or you'll get a brush swade effect on your walls.
Use a medium pile roller. Just cut in with the brush first. |

Ok, it's for a SMALL dedicated cinema room. If I mentioned that from the get go I thought somebody might accuse me of will waving:( I've tried a sample of the blackboard paint as that was recommended to me by my local paint shop. It definitely does the trick, ie virtually no reflection however it leaves those white chalky marks if you run your fingers over it. A damp cloth takes the marks away, but I'm not sure how long it would last if I keep wiping it. How dare you, you etc, etc....blah blah blah.... I take your point :D Blackboard paint is very tough indeed, and the added benefit is your kids can draw cartoon penises and tits on it and you can wipe it off before the inlaws arrive. :thumb: Other than that, as Phil says above.... |

You'll find cinemas won't be totally black.
More dark burgundy. Just looking at a farrow and ball colour card now. Look at Brinjal #22 Or Studio Green #93 Or Hague Blue #30 Or Black Blue #95 Or Railings #31 All the above you'd want in Modern Emulsion. In crown clean extreme on the Historic Colours card Look at PALLADIAN 15 or Victorian Eclectic 10 |

But to be fair they aren't painted they have fabric on the walls because of its superior light absorbing properties. I did try fnb railings but up against the test patches of various blacks it did seem to reflect more light. I'll try some of the other colours you've suggested. Thanks again:) Victorian Eclectic 10 |

Railings looks too light imho. When I say 'seemed ok' I meant the colour was dark enough - never saw the room with its cinema thingies fitted.
I think F&B do a colour called Invisible Green - might be worth a look. I was joking about using blackboard paint.... ;) eta - it's Dulux Heritage that do Invisible green Here you go - could be a tad expensive but you can put it over normal emulsion. - http://www.polyvine.com/index.php?op...ang=en#product Looks like the old fashioned wallpaper glaze I used in the mid 1980's. |
BLACKBOARD PAINT WILL DO YOUR HEAD IN,

TBH.. once lights are off to watch Tv/BluRay etc you don't see what the wall colour is anyway. If anything I want to add some mood light from the back of the TV that runs off the USB port on the Tv.. that makes watching TV a bit easier on your eyes. Phil, I had seen the Lindoplex room and that's why I tried a sample of Railings. It just didn't look as dark when I put it up in my room. Perhaps I need to find a grey that is a couple of shades darker. Mr Lindoplex also comments that it goes very shiny after minor contact, but then it seems all matt paints do this. The difference in your room is that you are using a TV. With a projector the reflected light has a greater effect on perceived contrast. Thanks |

Yes, that is the proper way to do it. I was trying to avoid the hassle as I just want to get on and finish the room and painting would be easier. Hence me trying to find the paint that reflected the least. Thanks for all your help. I'll let you know how I get on. |

No, it's totally flat, but wipeable.
You could buy a small bottle for £10 and try it out - well worth the effort. Dulux Decorator Centres and Brewers should sell it. Sure there must be one near you? |

TBH, you'll never get a FLAT matt finish you're after.
I'd still advise Clean Extreme in the darkest you can get, least you can wipe it if required. Just please don't use the same brush you did those samples with ;) (I hope you didn't do the test colours on the walls you're looking to paint?) |

Phil, I'll take a look at the Clean Extreme tomorrow. I bought a sample of FnB 'off black' in estates emulsion today, though it does reflect light it seems like a nice colour. And don't worry, I won't be doing the painting so that brush won't be used.:D Btw, I've just had my bedroom painted in FnB Purbeck Stone, what a wonderful colour! Really pleased with it.:) |
Estate Emulsion in F&B will give you a chalky finish... F&B Modern Emulsion will have a very slight sheen to it, but will be harder wearing if you want to wipe down.

Yes, I've put estates emulsion in the bedroom and I love the finish. I'll probably go with that and just be careful (or give the kids up for adoption) |
