Probably not , I prefer the 05 model and now you can get a brand new 05 STI with PPP for just over 24k so thats what I would buy if I had the money, but I haven't so I will just have to live with my bugeye STI which admitedly does look pig ugly from some angles:)

Code:

LOL Bob, you and your figures that mean nothing! A clio with 170bhp will push along a WRX, never mind a Cupra R with 225.

There are videos of clio sports beating tuned classics up a 1/4 mile! Do i really need to get them out and embarrass you all?

Says it all really! Dont know where you got these figures from bob? Were they for the 210bhp car? I think you'll find they are

Face it a WRX is not a quick car. Isn't this what this threads about?

I cant remember who actually said that but all I know is he's talking pi5h!!! my mate has a chipped clio 172 cup, and up the strip at crail he managed 14.56 on his best run! and I think I speak for everyone on this forum who doesn't hate scooby's when I say that you could probably pick any one of the scooby's that these guys own and it would pi55 all over the clio!:luxhello:

Gutmann pug 12 January 2006 07:50 AM

Once rolling I can assure you it would be a different story ...... :D

Edited to say ........ Cant be bothered to read the whole of this thread but I drove a cupra R in a driver training session at Mallory last year. I did 2 hours in the car, the last session being around 50 minutes solid. The car performed brilliantly, didnt feel the quickest but it didnt complain and although the brakes were grumbling when I had finished they hadn't failed once. My scoob's brakes would have let go after about 20 mins........I was impressed, very impressed.

and it would pi55 all over the clio!

No it wouldn't - end of :p

Steve these cars are very capable believe me. Had a dabble with one some months back and there wasn't much in it trust me.

Mine is also a classic but has ppp and few other bits nothing serious.

Would I buy one?..........yes I would better looking than any golf and best looking hatch on the market imo. SEAT have come along way since the 1990's credit where due ;)

I know because Mother dear has had one for the last 2.5 years and i've had my Scoob almost 5 years in various states of tune. I have access to the Clio (172 non cup BTW) whenever i choose. It's only now that i have 313 bhp and 300 Ib/ft that i can truely say that i would show one a clean pair of heels. Still however, i can't say i would completely destroy one.
Next question please :)

automodellistagt 13 January 2006 11:00 AM

well my mates 175 bhp mk3 MR2 is as fast as my scooby till 80 and then im only just start pulling back when i get into 4th

the newages are just too heavy. nut then again i can carry luggage and people, he cant :)

The grass is NOT greener

I wonder do scooby drivers go baiting other performance car forums ? It all strikes me as a bit of a grass is greener complex...I am almost certain that anyone with a nice hi-performance scooby is not driving around yearning for a clio trophy or an Astra VXR - but it certainly seems that those with these FWD ruffian motors seem to need 'convincing' one way or another that they are 'happy' with their motor - and the only way they can do this is by prooving it's faster...

Grasshopper jumped from 4WD to FWD and found blade of grass no longer as tasty as he had before but now new grasshopper on his old blade of grass.
What grasshopper to do ?

Perhaps we should start a tracking network - an early warning road monitoring system so we can warn fellow scooby drivers when these ( half dozen or so) road warriors are on the move...or better still forget about them and enjoy the car you bought...accept the occasional FWD may *keep* up with you but I'm bloody certain it'll not OVERTAKE YOU!

here, here, bought my scoob cos of rallying pedigree and heritage, looks and sound and driving experience. I do not drive it like a prat trying to race everyone, yeah i shoe it sometimes, empty twisty cornish roads...loving them. It is true, people like scooby scalps to brag about in the pub, sorry, creche with their mates..tossers.

I think its been well proven from all these forums that the impreza is the benchmark car.. It is well know for its performance and road going abilitys. It is because of this that everyone with any other make of car see's it as the target to beat. Fair play if they can but to be honest i think that its not at all likely. I took my classic on the track at castle combe on an open day. I was extreamly impressed with the abilities of the car and managed to leave a lot of seat cupra r's well behind. I even managed to beat to sierra cossies which i was very happy about (my car was running 330 bhp though). There were clio's going out on the track that didn't look near any of the impreza's i saw on the track but i never came up against one so can't really comment.
I think the point is we know our cars are on the whole quicker, but even in the cases where they may not be they are still amazing cars to drive. I can honestly say mine puts a smile on my face every time. I think we just have to accept the point that people in "hot hatches" will always we claiming vcitories over impreza's. I reckon we just let them carry on believing their dreams and rise above it!!

sirscooby 13 January 2006 01:20 PM

here, here. there may be some quick hot hatches - but do any of them really sound as nice as the flat four through a nice zorst - or even have half the pedigree or status of a scoob. At the end of the day the cupra r is still a seat - a seat salesmen told me that when i looked at one!!

jockc79 13 January 2006 01:42 PM

i have raced a cupra r and a type r and pissed all over both of them. they are both **** and i would not be seen dead in any of them

skoda_kid 13 January 2006 02:04 PM

Fook me :brickwall This thread been brought up again.

The fact that 'this cars sh!t', 'that cars sh!t' 'i beat this', 'i beat that', 'im better than you' etc has very very little to do with what cars are being driven. Its 99% down to THE DRIVER.

How many fookin times :Whatever_

jockc79 13 January 2006 02:06 PM

well people that cant drive the cars should not be buying them we boys should stick too there corsa maybe they can handle them ok
dont go out ur depth with a scooby

Pars 13 January 2006 02:35 PM

There was a yellow one had a pop at me a few months ago but I dint fancy doing 140 in the hammering sheet rain to keep the game going. I like the look of 'em, but prefer the scoob... people don't go "wow... f**king mint" when a clean and polished Seat bubbles past them on a summer's day :D

Plus they are prolly all driven by recruitment consultants :D

sideways scooby 13 January 2006 09:19 PM

I cant be bothered to read all of this thread but this is my view on it, i have a classic with de cat and air filter and my mate has a cupra r with air filter, 0-60 my car is quicker, top end the cupra is quicker, but the cupra has 6 gears which helps at top end, in the dry the cupra is a very good handling car, but in the wet! by by cupra, if he has traction control off it just spins if he has it on it just cuts the power to the wheels so it dosent spin, both are very good cars, both are fast, but i would never trade my scooby in for one.
And he also gets through a set of tyres every 3-4 months! ouch!
