This says it all really. Well done the Danes.

But sexual perversion comes before animal rights.

Just because the Danes have done the right thing with banning halal slaughter doesn't automatically mean everything they do is right.

I'm pretty sure those 2 schools in Rotherham aren't thinking about their bank balance, or St Thomas’ NHS Trust in London and the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation, nor the School who refused a child water in 30c heat because they thought the little nipper drinking would "offend" fasting Muslims.

Twickenham, Wembley and Ascot venues might be though! not to mention the following who all use Halal, some with 3/4 of their poultry Halal: Beefeater, Brewers Fayre, Costa Coffee, Taybarns, Table Table, Harvester, Brown, Toby Carvery, Nandos, KFC, All Bar One and O’Neills to name just a few.

Prejudice or not I'd like to know the fundamental reasons for the entire UK food chain becoming Halal certified. (not just 2 or 3 Subways as the left and just me will have you believe!)

Don't even get me started on Halal Easter eggs - From Haribo to KFC, Roger Waters to David Cameron peers are lending themselves to Islam.

Hmmm, really? Are we going to start slinging mud based on sexual perversion?.

I wish halal food was clearly labelled.

That way if i'm out and get hungry i can clearly see what is halal and what is not. At the moment it's sticking to the veggy option or going to a kebab shop.

I never knew Harvester done halal. I still wouldn't eat there unless they made it very clear that their food is or is not halal. Don't like this 'secret' business.

Lisawrx 07 May 2014 11:21 PM

RS Matt, out of all of the food outlets you mentioned, are they Halal across the board, or have they only introduced it in certain restaurants/stores?

The reason for some animal cruelty is demand. Take caged chickens for example, if everyone wanted free range eggs then there just is not enough land in the country, FACT. And for the people who buy free range eggs, their still responsible for caged birds because their making up some of the demand.

I blame the supermarkets, not because their an easy target but because they are the ones that create most of the demand. In saying that we all have to be responsible and make sure we don't turn our backs to the truth.

I was once told by an old farmer that when he was younger your weekly food came to about 50%-75% of wages. If we went back to the days where farmers made good money and all the food was organic and free range then we would have to say good by to our smart devices and for a lot of us our Subarus.

Let's be honest we all want GM crops and our modern farming methods, its a necessary evil, what I believe is not a necessary evil for most of the UK is halal meat. The big supermarkets will always choose to use halal meat that is humanly killed but by creating the demand you are part of the problem, ie halal that is not well looked after and is not humanly killed.IMO

No, I was referring to the method of "killing" as outdated.

Although if you want to push it, most of religion generally is, frankly, outdated, and if you can prove otherwise please do have a go.

No one has answered the question of what happens if a Muslim eats non halal meat?

In the 21st century animal slaughter should always be done with the most humane methods available, and religion should play absolutely no part in this.

So.

A quick google tells me that eating halal meat where the animal has not been treated well and killed as directed is also bad as far as Islam is concerned.

Given that it will be impossible to tell which halal meat comes from animals treated and killed as directed and which does not, simply saying its ok because its halal just doesn't work now, does it?

And the non muslims get accused of being hypocrites.....

I think all halal food should be labelled. Then I can exercise my consumer rights and go shop elsewhere where they sell proper food, killed in a proper method.

Im not islamic and I dont want to encourage this practice so I would avoid it if at all possible, if everyone else did the same then stuff like this wouldnt happen because there would be no money in it.

Much the same as I wont go to tesco, morrisons, sainsburys etc, because I can get the same quality for cheaper elsewhere, they have had it good for far too long and are greedy, if everyone shopped with their feet and went else where that was cheaper etc, they would soon reduce prices

Come on you may not like the person asking the question but what would happen? Would you have to surrender your beliefs ? I can understand how religious beliefs can be a way of life for some and even if I don't like it I would not ask you to do such a thing but I am not sure, how it works ,is there no wiggle room?

Yet India's made up predominantly of the Eastern religions with Islam accounting for about 15% of the sub-continent. One would assume that apart from the Muslim-Bangladeshi and Pakistani restaurants that masquerade as Indian, the majority would be run by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. Perhaps you can put me straight.

I did put "some serving up to 3/4 Halal Poultry." But yes AFAIK there are no mainstream non-Muslim eateries that serve 100% Halal across 100% of their stores. I thought Nandos did but only 64 of their 314 stores implement Halal.

It's quite a temptation of the right to hear "KFC trail Halal or your local KFC is now Halal" and believe the franchise is now completely Halal (for whatever reason.)

I know I've been guilty of the knee-jerk reaction before. TBH my fear is something most Muslims don't even want, especially 2nd or 3rd generation Brits of an Asian/African background, many being Westernised - Sharia.

LSherratt 08 May 2014 01:59 PM
