Whate............

We're not that bad. Having a bad hair day with all the LCR bashing that was going on. The chap was right in that there are a fair few Scooby owners out there that think it is the best car in the world (I know it is really!) but it has limitations as do all cars.

Sell me your bodykit BTW!!

Any in gears I'll spank ya. You can have the 0-60mph thats for magazine reading chavs. Have you mentioned "The Wet" and "The Twistys" i aint sure but i bet its only a matter of time.

Also theres always someone quicker. Point made. Then Andy F could come in and say the same to me.

I believe that this comment was directed at me a few pages ago, so I apologise for the late reply, but I've been away in the North of Scotland driving on roads that seem as if they were built for Scoobys and other 4WD rally replicas.
My wife does not drive her Scoob in a fast and dangerous way, and doesn't even drop any kids at school (our child is still a toddler). The reason that my wife prefers the Scoob is to do with road holding and braking. After having a relatively quick 200bhp Fiesta RS Turbo, my wife then had a Celica ST205 GT4 WRC Ltd Edition with 310bhp, and now has a 04 WRX PPP, with shots of all my various Scoobs, and test drives in various powerful front wheel drive cars in between. At all points after the Fiesta, the 4WD machinery has always had an upper hand in the general feeling of safety, whether wet or dry, regarding general road holding and braking. This is why we have chosen them in recent years to transport our family.
And the other point. We live at the bottom of quite a large hill, which gets heavy snowfall in winter and doesn't really get snowploughs/gritters till it's really too late. I do find it encouraging to come out of my house and drive straight up this snow covered hill whilst all others in 2wd machinery seem to be floundering.:D

Easily the best comment i have ever read on a forum.

Pretty much sums up the new breed of Impreza owners, i feel totally sorry for the proper enthusiasts out there. It'd seem this 'new breed' i talk of think they are invincible and i'm sorry but the impreza is a car i should aspire to own? Where are peoples dreams these days? :lol1:

Anyway, i like impreza's and have browsed this forum for many years although i only registered to say what a cock you are :)

You have an impreza, i have a golf neither will gain you respect 'at the pub' unless its to your chav mates :hjtwofing

I am a PROPER enthusiast to be honest AND i am proud to own a Scooby - That is why I said what I did and wouldnt go back on it.

I dont think I am invincible on the road in the slightest and know my car is not the fastest thing ever. I also never race on the public highway - I drive my car for my own enjoyment. I am not a chav and have a UK unmodified classic.

And I completely disagree you would look better driving a Golf - None of them look good really.

Your car may well p*ss all over my scoob but the point is I dont care - Put us in two evenly matched cars/karts on any circuit in the UK and I can guarantee you would not be able to keep up.

ScooBStu 26 September 2005 01:04 PM

Still extremely confused where you got the I think I am invincible thing from - I have never said that.

To be honest mate you just sound like a total wanker. Re-read your posts slagging off Seat, you seem to think a Subaru is something we should all aspire to own. I have news for you its not so.

IF you were a proper enthusiast you'd respect other cars for there merits and not try and diss them making out they are 'girls cars.'

Are you honestly trying to say a 'sport' looks good? Cause thats basically what yours is with an added chav vent and spoiler.

I'm sure the guy driving past in his 911 turbo when your on your daily commute to work is really think 'wow, he owns an impreza'..........

:)

mwp 26 September 2005 08:28 PM

wow .. looks a bit heated.

just looked at this thread. can't believe the debate. fact is they are quick and it depends on the driver a lot more than the car if they are within 50hp.

sorry if this is SIAL after 10 pages.

:)

If you come on here slagging Subaru's off what do you expect. Obviously a Subaru is not my dream car but I have wanted one for a few years and glad I bought one. They are a fantastic car and I know they are not the fastest thing on the road. Your right the guy in his Porsche 911 is not going to be impressed together with most road users, however I think a lot of people think a lot about them including myself.

To be honest - I dont actually think they look that good too - That certainly is not the reason I bought it - To me an Astin Martin looks good - Not a souped up family car. I bought it to drive it - It isnt anything special on my daily commute either which is about 7 miles in 30-40 limits but when I get it on an open road it makes me grin from ear to ear.

I also am somewhat confused with the chav image - Nearly every reasonably fast car enentually gets in to the hands of chavs and the like including tonnes of golfs - Does not mean that you are a chav does it?

You are correct I am a complete w*nker.

Terminator X 27 September 2005 12:29 AM

FFS I can't believe this is still going strong ... the Seat / VW / Skoda boys are obviously on a wind up so why not just let this one die a natural?

TX.

SEATTHESCOOBYEATER 03 October 2005 07:12 PM

can we go back to the begining when the man said he got whipped by a cupra r

nuff said

in the days of fast escorts and vauxhalls i imagine these jappo wagons where a decent car but come on lads you just look like a chav on a council estate driving that thing round.

grow up buy a proper car i say

anyone seen the new leon i know a good seat dealer who will give you a good px deal on ya scoobies lol cya

Neil_G 03 October 2005 09:05 PM

Yet again I come on here to more salty debate (laughter)

I have just sold my Subaru and it was a fantastic car but definately had it flaws which as the longer I had it, the more I noticed them.

I won't however be buying a Seat as they are built like s**t (like most golfs too these days).

mg driver 04 October 2005 01:11 AM

i know the lcr is far from a great handling car but my front driver will out handle my old scoob any day of the week and i dont just mean it feels better ,it has more grip and gives higher apex speeds, where my scoob just understeered ,this pulls you round right on track without wanting to drift out to the hedgerow,,so its not as simple as saying all front drive is crap,,many are its true but many hot hatches will match a standard scoob through the bends.I think the trouble with front drivers like the leon is just to much power,, a standard lcr may well out run a chipped one through some good twisties just because it can lay the power down,,220 has to be the sensible limit i would say for front drive and this is where the scooby comes into its own because you can go very high and still retain the handling.

In the wet from the lights they are unbeatable but you still have to treat corners with respect ,,folks almost seem to suggest that scoobs can be driven just as fast in the wet as the dry and thats just not right,,,4wd is only an advantage when your on the power ,,braking and turning in has to be done as carefully as any car.

Despite that every one should own a scooby at some point they have something special that makes you feel good and you cant put a price on that feeling,,they aren't perfect but tell me something that is.

LCR or SCOOB ,, id go for the scoob everytime that 1.8 turbo is characterless and sounds pretty boring too in standard trim at least.

EVOLUTION 04 October 2005 01:16 AM

an interesting post, dont agree with all of it though, How would the LCR be able to out run a chipped one???

Or am i reading that one wrong mate, does that mean it would outrun another chipped LCR???

John

cong 04 October 2005 01:32 AM

whats a "front driver" as quoted from "mg driver"? does he mean a front wheeled car will out handle a 4wd? i suspect he doesnt watch wrc rally then! i dont see alot of "front driver" cars there!

mg driver 04 October 2005 09:10 AM

John

Sory i meant ,a standard lcr 225 may well out run a chipped lcr through twisties just becasue a standard one may actually be able to lay some of its power down.
tbh as far as i can make out from this thread the chipped lcr is a one trick pony,,,i.e motorway encounters,,where as the chipped scooby can perform well on a drag strip ,track, country roads and motorways,,that makes it a no contest in my book because driving is about corners,,any one can just plonk their foot down in a straight line ,it takes no skill at all and proves nothing.

To Cong,,no a front drive will not outhandle a 4wd on a rally stage but none of us are on a rally stage ,,,on smooth tarmac normal roads many of the best of todays front drive hatches will push a standard scooby through the bends and some would beat it,,the focus rs was quicker round the tg test track by some margin,,,,the scooby may be awd but its also 300 kg heavier than some of them ,,,4wd cant defy physics.
I cant speak for the latest version but the classic and bugeye both understeer 4wd or not ,,my car understeers but the point at which it starts to slide is higher than it was in my classic shape scooby.
