I assume you normally get some turnout?

I couldn't make it on last night, usually we have enough for a game on Sundays - but unfortunately I know a lot of us (who work for the same company) were unable to join in last night due to work... I'm still going from 11am yesterday...

_RIP_ 21 November 2005 11:57 AM

Same here, was going to join in when I had (uninvited) guests turn up. Sorry :(

Flatcapdriver 21 November 2005 12:54 PM

Has/is anyone updating to the new Special Forces expansion pack?

_RIP_ 21 November 2005 01:16 PM

Dont think it is out until tommorow. I'm going to wait and see how buggy it is and whether the new patch addresses any of the present issues. I've a feeling it's only going to be a compatability patch though. I'd buy it mainly for the city maps as BF2 is sadly lacking in this dept.

I've preordered it, it's released on the 25 Nov.

We will only be updating to it, *if* it works as a mod to our existing server.
That way we will run one Spec Forces night a week for those that want to play.

LEUVEN 21 November 2005 07:30 PM

I've had BF2 for about a month, pre-orderd Special forces on the same day.

Went online the day I got it for a few hours, not been on it since:ponder2:

Probably because it takes 2 shots to kill someone from point blank range with shots to the face.  Either that or I'm shtie at shooting:cry:

Hope SF is better :)

_RIP_ 21 November 2005 07:50 PM

That's because BF2 uses a hitbox, or as Dice/EA says, a "rock, paper, scissors" approach to whether you actually hit anything or not :cuckoo::Whatever_

is that true ..i just thought i was a bad aim when drunk LOL

_RIP_ 21 November 2005 08:57 PM

Well that's my excuse anyway, drunk or not :D

But sadly it is also quite true :(

drjsd 21 November 2005 09:28 PM

So that'll be why when I loose off at point blank into their chest they don't fall over?

Got to admit it's bloody frustrating when they then bunny hop in and shoot you once and kill you!

Damn those x-counterstrike players - they are the bunny hoppers :D

Drives me up the bloody wall, although you do get used to it and shoot them the same.

Mentioned last night about the DiNovo mouse back/forward buttons not working now in BF2 after installing Setpoint. Any thoughts, DrEvil? Starting to annoy me!

DrEvil 21 November 2005 10:16 PM

Not familar with the DiNovo mouse, what do you mean by back/forward buttons?
Setpoint 2.22 seems the newest... may be worth checking the BF2 controls config in game and setting things up manually... ?

I'm using a Saitek Gamer's Keyboard and Logitech G5 - awesome combo for gaming :)

LEUVEN 21 November 2005 10:38 PM

That will explain why in the intro movie, the guy runs up to another guy and fires a full magazine (well almost) in to him and there is a delayed reaction of about 5 seconds before he died.
Must have been losing an awfull lot of times at Rock, paper scissors. :D

Atleast they didnt try and hide the crappy idea in the intro movie tho  :iamwithst

drjsd 21 November 2005 11:21 PM

Tried reprogramming in the controls section. Worked fine when I hadn't installed the Setpoint! Found a thing called Logigamer, but can't seem to get it to work.

And great news. The girlfriend is on nights on Tuesday as well! Fantastic, no need to bribe her to leave me alone. Must get hold of her shift pattern and adjust mine accordingly ;)

With a bit of luck there may be a better turnout...!

Yes this is a know issue with Setpoint. Setpoint will blitz any other mouse drivers you have, just the way it works. Setpoint also gubbed my right click for forward mapping with the new G5 mouse. There is no known cure. I've reverted back to my old mouse until either Dice or Logitech can sort this out. I'm not holding my breath.

I think Logigamer only works with the following mice; MX500, MX700, MX310,MX510 & MX1000.

Flatcapdriver 22 November 2005 09:25 AM

So, Special Forces - worth it or not?

_RIP_ 22 November 2005 10:17 AM

I'd really like to think it would be worth it, but releasing an expansion so soon after the game is a bit rich, especially when they cant even be bothered to sort the present bugs and gameplay issues. DrEvil has said SF will be released in the UK this Friday.

Until someone has it - we won't know... released Friday.

I've got it on Amazon preorder so should have it by Jan! ;)

Flatcapdriver 22 November 2005 01:49 PM

Oh, I thought it was out today?

Purchase and pre-load the game today. You’ll be one of the first to play on release day, November 22 at 1pm EST.
I stand corrected - it was originally pencilled in for the 25 Nov - you were right :)

Anyhow, won't have until Amazon sort themselves out... so unlikely to get it this week (or next).

The 1.12 patch is now out, and as I thought it's a compatability patch only.

DrEvil, from what I've read on the net (though I might be wrong) a server will only be able to run original BF2 or BF2:SF maps, but not both in the same rotation. There are over 300 patched servers with the SF servers running SF maps and the BF2 servers running BF2 maps. Sounds a bit lame. Perhaps you could look into this.

What I have also gleaned is that a BF2:SF unlocked weapon can be used in vanilla BF2. Meaning that if you kill someone with a SF unlock you can use the weapon in BF2 briefly. These weapons are supposedly upgrades, so I guess EA is using this as a way to tempt you to buy SF. It's a bit shoddy that you will "have" to buy the expansion to have a level playing field (in BF2) against those people who have bought SF :(

Yep - hence the need for a dedicated Spec Forces night on our server once the option is available, so something like.

Tues - BF2
Thur - BF2 Spec Forces
Sun - BF2

MPuk still haven't announced how this will be made available (ie if it will cost more on an existing server or require a new instance)... watch this space...

:)

_RIP_ 22 November 2005 04:49 PM

Cheers m8, and I will hopefully manage on later tonight :)

DrEvil 22 November 2005 05:45 PM

Cool - hopefully I will too - got to put my old boot disk back in as the new one nuke'd itself 24hrs post install... :(

drjsd 22 November 2005 09:29 PM

Is the game on this evening? Can't seem to find the server...
