Any ideas on the above? Price and economy matter less than the above. To replace 10 year old Legacy as my winter car with other roles as luxury cruiser and bonuses would be load lugging. Massive petrol engines are most acceptable. 0-60 in under 7 preferred.
I can't think of this vehicle so far. Suggestions, or suggestions if I drop the depreciation resistance? Can't stomach Range Rover reliability.
Lexus RX? X5? S4? (Probably bordering on luxury but Chris Harris is trying to keep the values up)
From reading have some concern over RX hybrids and snow traction. I do not need more ground clearance than a normal car if there is traction in deep snow on the right tyres like the Legacy where the snow gets thrown up onto the bonnet and the main problem is jamming the wipers!
Forgive typo from phone in title.

Good call. Concern would be finding one at sensible money and ease if resale. How smooth is the 2.0 twin scroll compared to the Mk IV 3.0 H6 I have? One of the reasons to ask for luxury is that the Legacy doesn't any longer impress in the luxury department, it used to feel good "for a Subaru" but now I have gone and driven a last of the outgoing model RR TDV8 and am spoilt forever. It has already broken down on its owner though, as did his last two!

Maybe you are right but you often hear this about cars during the hype time and before you know it there are loads available. Haven't Porsche built a whole new factory to produce this vehicle? It's hardly a limited run is it?

I just replaced the alternator on one (well RR Sport TDV8) and to be frank I'd be happy if I never see one ever again (actually its not that bad to change...once you know how it comes out).
Think I'd rather opts for teh RS4 over the S4...its just that little bit more special.
Porsche seem to hold production down to start with, ensuring residuals stay high in the early production vehicles.
Look at the Cayenne - still a long wait list for a factory order.
That's not to say there won't be cancelled orders and you may be able to jump in and grab one - I know of a few that have done this with the 991 GT3, which has been sold out for a year now.
Have you looked at the Audi Q5 RS? Price isn't too bad and it's the only recent performance Audi (apart from the R8) to get a good review in most mags.
I actually rather like it and the Macan.
However "luxury" and "depreciation resistant" aren't words that can sit in the same sentence.
Absolutely left field choice but a VW Caravelle Executive 4Motion will carry the whole World, has good AWD (same as ours) and is specced up to the eyeballs. It only has 180bhp though and so isn't fast but they hang onto speeds well enough.
I rather like the X3 but the new X5 is really quite a lovely thing.

Are you buying new?
If not a Panamera 4 might fit the bill and would have taken most of the depreciation hit, it has a hatch for load lugging!

To be a bit different how about the Volvo V40 Cross Country T5. 254 bhp five pot, 0-60 mph in 6 seconds and its petrol!

Or the XC60 T6 with 304 bhp, 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds if you need more room!

Not sure on residuals though........................

Audi RS Q3 might fit the bill.
If you can wait, Merc GLA 45 AMG
I would be tempted by the Evoque Si4, I don't think any of the other cars in its class have such a nice interior, but I know they have some niggling reliability issues.

Looking at RS3 residuals and prices of 2011 cars the Audi Q3 RS is expected to have one of the lowest deprecation rates out there.
Saying it is one thing, it happening another. I remember when Impreza's appreciated in value as soon as you took em off the forecourt! How times have changed

Thanks for all the ideas. I have been considering lots of options but nothing is tempting me out of my Legacy yet, which feels nice since I have just crawled around under it changing a rear clonking drop link that was making it feel old and unloved. Spend £10 to save £50k
Used car prices seem strong for this time of year, few bargains amongst recent model X5, Cayenne, X3, S4. There are some good lease deals on X6 and A6 and I am open to anything that is good VFM, a lease would reduce reliability concerns and depreciation of course, but the unreliable depreciators are expensive to lease.
I do like the sound of the RS 5 pot though, but it only has about 25% more power than my old H6 Legacy which also makes a lovely sound.

The owner of the now ex-Subaru main dealer local to me has one of the latest versions of the Legacy H6 and really rates it. The guy currently now sells the usual German "badge" cars but much prefers his Subaru.
Think there are some good lease deals through Subaru UK at the moment

Just be careful on the RS3 normanthedog had one and it wasn't a pleasant experience. The new rs3 will be nice but expensive.
The Rsq3 is only a tenth quicker than the S3 nice inside though but pricey at 42k plus
