as sad as it sounds, probably another big bhp subaru tbh lol i know and love them so barring a very nice porker i would stick with what i know
if it was a weekend track toy thig, id like some kind of caterham set up, if i felt a bit mental a hyabusa engined mini or something.
as you can tell ive not experience of 20-30k cars lol

As jef said- you need to give us a clue what you want. £25k and talking of a Golf suggests you want to buy new in which case the 996 Turbo suggestions are way off the mark.
Max age
Petrol / Diesel
2 door / 4 door
Soft top / hard top
etc, etc

Brand new Renault Megane 265 Trophy. 8min 8secs around the 'Ring which makes it a bit nippier than some of what's be been already suggested.

Probably running costs.
Same as some cars mentioned above. At fuel prices now, who can really justify running a Subaru (let alone a 460bhp T25) or a Focus RS, Megane 265, or even the new Astra VXR (with 276bhp) as an every day daily driver?
OK, the Type 25 is special enough to justify it as a `Weekend toy` only car, but a Focus RS? No, not really.
I think the new bead of `Warm` Hot hatches will find more buyers looking at reducing running costs but still keeping the handling to keep things entertaining. Cars like the new 208GTI, Clio Sport, & Fiesta ST.
