Default Porsche prices in different countries

I recently came back from Australia and noticed there weren't many Porsches around. So I looked up the prices...

New 911 Turbo S here £125,975, in the States $160,700usd (£101,747), and in Australia $449,855aud (£305,419).

Now obviously the weak exchange rate comes into play here, but that still seems like a ridiculous price. Do they manage to sell any cars?

I wonder how much of that is tax?

In India - new car prices seem to be around a multiple 2.5 to 3.0 compared to the UK. A big Cayenne market where a new Cayenne will be £150-200k in a country where the average hourly wage a tenth of what it is here.

South Africa is the same... but as Trout suggests, the tax there on imported cars is 43-45%, so a new impreza sti hatch costs £43200... Exotics are silly money!!

No, because that's Porsche Design, not Porsche.

Different companies, you see.

don't know whether it's still the case, but import duty on European cars into Australia used to be in the region of 100%
