Default Anyone owned an RS6?

I've always loved these cars, the looks, the sound & the styling. Just interested in peoples views of them? Has anyone owned one? What's it like in the real world?
I know they aren't the cheapest cars to run / maintain but they do look like a lot of fun & at the same time practical for carrying the mrs & kids, crap, etc around.

Thats why i like them, something slightly different & i prefer older cars as they have character unlike modern cars which all seem to look like blobs of rounded metal and look like every other car.

Never owned one but had one as a company car.... lovely cars all round but stupifly expensive to maintain. Altho they dont go wrong often you will know about it when it does. Make sure your best pals with the bank manager as your gonna be getting a few loans of him soon

lol, i know they wouldn't be cheap to keep but that's not why we buy 'expensive to maintain' cars though is it? It's all about that little % of time that you get to actually drive it just because you enjoy doing so not because you are going to and from somewhere.

The main point of this thread is that i wanted more info on what the car is like itself? How do they drive / compare to other similar cars? What are they like to live with? etc?

The thing that scared me off an old RS6 was not the running costs in terms of fuel, insurance, tax, friction materials and routine servicing, all of which are expected on a heavy, fast car, but the chance of major ££££/£££££ repairs when things break, which include small items that need the engine out to fix, DRC failures (repeatedly), autobox failures.

They make a fantastic noise, the gearbox and interior are nice, as a real world road car they drive very nicely indeed. The criticisms of suspension and steering are journalists who just want to oversteer everywhere. I loved my drive in one.

If you don't need AWD though, there are cheaper ways to go nearly as fast. Something like a 335i will be newer, more fuel efficient and with a tune just as fast, if you can get traction.

The choice of affordable, refined, reliable, AWD, multicylinder, turbo fun is limited. It is RS4 and RS6 as far as I can tell.

Been considering one of these as well. Got to be Daytona grey for me. With a little bit of lowering they look superb, IMO

Sorry mate but I think it looks horrid, just a big old rectangular lump. Not only that but the RS6 has always failed compared to the M car of the time. In recent years it has also failed as compared to AMG/Jag R cars.

I just don't see what the attraction is. It looks like sh7te.

Ha no worries mate it would be a boring world if we all drove round in M cars, just would rather not be a sheep lol ;-)

Failed?
Love how some people are so dismissive over certain cars.

I fancied one as well but researching the car I found out that the autoboxes are made of glass and your looking at 3.5K for a recon one.
DRC suspension fails on 99% of all cars. Most folk replace with aftermarket coilovers when DRC fails.
I might go for the RS4 B5 instead.

The RS6 is horribly expensive to run and will cost big time WHEN major components go wrong. As above gearbox and suspension are very suspect. The ride on standard wheels is terrible. Whilst it's not the last word in dynamics the RS6 is an awesome performer no matter what the conditions. The performance is unrelenting and it makes a great noise too. If you can get one with the problem areas addressed at a reasonable price then it's worth considering. Otherwise it's a leap of faith.

Audi ownership makes owning a boat look frugal... My A8, which I love fwiw, costs at least 25% of what its worth each year in tyres and repairs, mostly electrical... I wouldn't have another unless it was under warranty.

I did consider an RS6 Avant, but the costs were just silly. Apart from the iffy gearboxes and suspension they also seem to eat brake disks and pads at an alarming rate.
Having said that, if I ever win the Lotto I would get one like a shot!!
