Looking at getting an estate car as a saloon is just too small for all our family crap & bikes etc
Currently sniffing around BMW 3 & 5 series touring M Sports & the Audi A4 Avant S line.
Anything else i should be looking at?

I chopped the bug wagon in for an m sport touring 335d.
Nice cars and its big enough for me as I only have two dogs and no children.
With the size of your family though, you may want to look at a 5 series as they aren't that big-in fact, probably only just bigger than a scoob wagon!
Any questions on the 335d,just ask...

Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 CDTI serious dang for the buck. I have just bought the hatchback version. I looked at Audi's, VW, BMW Etc, and you get for more for your money buying an ST. IMO

May be off to look at a 530d today (if he ever rings me back....)
I do like the vRS estate as well. Never been keen on the mondeo for some reason but a lot of people are saying it's the best in it's class.
I do tend to stay with german cars though for my every day jobbies but am always open to anything new.

3 series is just too small a car for a family. 5 series lots more space
new range of mondeos are massive and you get a lot of motor and toys for yr money: especially if you want something cavernous. I say this because I looked at 5 series and A6's: but bought a ford as pound for pound I got a nearly new car, with small running costs. didn't want the ins or servicing costs of a bmw, likewise they would have had some serious miles on v what the ford cost.
having said that, now I have it, kinda fancy a change.......... but its a great daily hack.

When my Mrs car goes back next year we are looking at the
Audi A4 estate
Bmw 3 series estate
or the Merc C class estate
I want the C class but I think the Mrs wants the A4, She currently has the TT.
I have to say I cant fault it. Not my kind of car but its been solid. Its a diesel 170 bhp, She has done 20k in a year and it has not skip a beat!
Her brother has a 1.6 C class and that is a nice motor too

we were looking at a6 tdi avants before that, but the forester will be better and cheaper on fuel

Definitely a 6 cylinder diesel estate, so by default that will be German.
Or a 4x4 of course. Worth comparing a 530d touring v X5 3.0d.
My 330d touring was a great car but not for boot space or as a 5 seater. Auto was 5mpg worse than manual.

Well, The 530D fell through today
I am seriously considering keeping my 320D Saloon and maybe having a towbar fitted and roof bars???
All the cars I look at seem to be bags of crap for the money as I am a fussy bugger and want a car in as good a condition as mine.
Will have another look around this week and then decide whether to keep or not

I've never owed a 530d, A6 or E-class estate, but I would swear by a 6 cylinder diesel engine - much smoother than a 4 cylinder.
