Mini Review.

For those that are considering a switch here is a mini review.

The e46 M3 is absolutly amazing. The power delivery is awesome and sounds amazing. It doesnt feel as insanley quick as the scooby but it is, it just feels different. Once you get on the open roads with dsc off its the perfect animal. It really feels very balanced and so easy to have fun with. Can be a little unsettled on high speed and bumpy corners but just adds a bit of excitement.

The quality feel is great, all the toys are fun and it looks wicked.

Id give the car easy 9/10. More power would be nice but im not sure if that would upset the overall balance of the car.

You'll drop to an 8/10 after you've had a few hard stops on the brakes during a country blast

Looks fantastic! The E46 M3's really do look great in black with the 19" wheels - great to see it totally standard as well.

I'd have thought about 350-60bhp on a 20-140mph roll.

My mate had a classic sti with 330bhp and my other mate has an e46 M3. From 20-100mph it was even and from 100mph+ the Impreza was actually a little faster!

Nice one!

What model is the E92? Black grille so assume 320d?

I was a late starter on BMWs but they really are cracking cars - well most of them anyway.

Yeah the red is spot on. Black is to corporate / boring. it is a sport car after all!

Its got the SMG which i am just blown away with. To begin i wasnt that impressed but having it a while now ive learnt how to use it and its fantastic. When really pushing on it comes into a league of its own. Its brilliant. It can also be a dosile as a limo in the lower modes.

The brakes are not as bad as everyone says, keep them well maintained and they are ok for everything but track work. With a decent race pad they would probably be ok for light track work too! They are 330mm after all.

Yes its totally standard, and for now its staying that way, a few things id like to tweak (like buying a csl instead) but the pennies just dont add up for the time being.

I am keeping an eye out on the csl market, if a decent one pops up for 25k ish i might buy it.

Back in feb i went out and bought an M3 Evo for track work. Here is my progress: http://www.bmwowner.com/forum/viewto...fe2128f45dd965

Keep it standard - it's becoming a USP nowadays!

Got 348mm disks up front on the 335d - I would have assumed an M3 had bigger brakes?

USP?

Yes is bad how bad the brakes are for an M Car! People often fit CSl disks with 911 brembos all round. But the stuck brakes are fine for a road car. But for an M it should have been fitted with something special!

The other bad thing is that lower end M3's have just dropped into the **** head price bracket. Which means they are going to depreciate somewhat. However i spend good money to find the best m3 i could, so hopefully it should hold its own. The m3 Evo's if anything are now going up in value!

It was a 57 320i. It was a terrible car. I mean it was good (looks) but so un-reliable it was unreal. It was brand new up to 85k miles and spent most of the time at the dealer being fixed. The insides were nice to begin with but are a little bland now i think. Not my car tho, just commenting on my passenger rides in it.

not just the engine. the diff went twice too. and it wasnt abused just motorways.

Looks sweet and it was just when the new model came out so it had real presence. Silly money tho! Depreciates about 7k /yr!

Low end BMs are a rip off IMO - had a 318d M Sport saloon loan car for a couple of days while the 335d was being sorted - added up the costs of a new one and it was over £30k! For a 140ish bhp repmobile in tarts clothing!

Further up the range they start getting better VFM.

Not heard of the diffs going in any - that's poor.

An E92 with a four pot engine is very much "all show, not much go" IMO. That 20i unit has been utterly useless too.

Anyway it's about yours - very cool indeed!

Lol thanks. i was considering a 335i before purchased but ive always wanted an e46 m3. It was the first properly fast car i ever went in when i was 17. And living with one is surpassing my expectations.

I do often crave more insane straightline speed. Keep toying between 911 turbo & csl. But in reality ill probably just stick with this car and plough more money into my track toy e36. Carbon fibre aint cheap!

Looks really nice mate. I never like em to be honest until I drove my mates couple of months back and.... Loved It miles better than what I thought. The Grip was amazing for such a heavy car. As you said all the toys, power and looks. Quality

yeah it carries its weight quite well. It feels solid rather than heavy. I mean its no classic scoob but it doesnt pretend to be either.

I had one a while back, went back to several scoobs and an Evo, and now gone back to another one, I've concluded as an all round package for me not much can beat it. Great cars and now great value for money as well. Yours looks a truly stunning example.
