Default How reliable is the Reliability Index?

I've just been looking through this and there are a few cars rated highly that I would question the reliability of.

Firstly there is the Lexus IS, rated 8th. I have read a quite a few reports that the reliability of theses seem to be a bit of a myth and there have been a few to many owners reporting problems.

The next one up is the VW Polo which is 25th for the 05> with the 02-05 ranked highly as well. These are just shocking cars in terms of reliability.

The Volvo S40 ranked 6th is also questionable.

What does anyone else make of the cars in the list and their ratings?

At first I thought this was on new cars but see its based on Warranty Direct stats.

Personally Id prefer to go by my own & others I know experience of cars than those stats.

Looking more closely this data is collated from Warranty Direct claims so it is perfectly feasable that the Honda S2000 and Impreza drivers know that as there cars are so perfect any extended warranty would just be a waste of money.

Yes, this is in effect the league table of Warranty Direct profitability. Each time somebody buys a policy for a Corolla they must be well chuffed.
