Default If you are going to threaten a customer..

..best not to threaten a forum owner/admin.

Dealer to avoid - Davenport Motor Company

Slightly long but quite interesting attitude from a pikey car dealership..

Title makes you think that the dealers going to get his just deserves, i think they may well be more to his storey then what he's letting on.
At end of the day no dealer is going to tell you to get out for a offer £800 less than screen price.

Ha Ha Ha ... test drive was 1 mile and the Cruise didn't work?

How the hell did he know that?! He couldn't have tested the cruise within a mile!

He says the car is a dog - why offer anything on it then?

He knows a lot about these cars, he will be rather **** about them ... so, the asking price attracted him to make a 8 hour journey!! Now, we wouldn't travel 5 yards for an MG - but some people love them and will travel for what they think is a rare example at a cheap price!

He then proceeded to knock 20% off ... that's OK - but why, if it's a dog? I get the idea that he was a geek that ran into some non-geeks, that's all. Now, I would offer whatever I thought if I wanted it - I have had some real irrate Salesmen who have turned purple at my offers. I've never been threatened though (but I am 20+ stone!).

In short, the Dealership didn't want a know-it-all MG geek in their showroom. They appear to have acted over-the-top .... but, come on, they have a MG they can't sell (wouldn't you be rather dicked off that you had bought such a lemon?)

I grew up 6 miles away from that garage and still have family down there. Even i know not buy a car from them and i haven't lived there for the last 15 years. I know someone who bought a Renault 5 turbo from there and had gearbox problems within a week. They didn't want to know and fobbed him off constantly.

I'm amazed the place is still going to be honest.... Cos i don't know anyone within 50 miles that would even buy a secondhand pogo stick from them!

WHAT!?

It only is active over a certain speed - say 30 MPH? On decent cars, anyway.

A 1 mile test drive? When you are concentrating on a million other things? Nah .... bollox IMO.

Now, if the test drive was 5 miles - then yes OK cruise can be tested.

Yes but this geek knows all to well how the cruise never works, so this is the first thing he checks on the test drive.

In the bimmer I can activate it from 20mph, plenty of 20 zone areas around my end so comes in handy.

The garage is about 200 meters from a dual carriageway. If he turned right out of the place it's onto the dual, left it's a normal B road 60 limit for some of it i do believe. So he could have easily tested the cruise control

i have to agree with what someone on the rover forum said which was:-

I have to say I won't be recommending Davenport Motor Company, Front Street, Bebside, Blyth, Northumberland NE24 4HW to any of my friends based on what you've told me.

It sounds to me like Davenport Motors, Front St, Bebside Northumberland NE24 4HW are a bunch of total cowboys and I certainly think buying a car from them sounds like a bad idea as their customer service sounds truly awful.

Perhaps Davenport Motor Company, Front Street, Bebside, Newcastle, Northumberland NE24 4HW ought to be reported to the police for their intimidating and abusive treatment of customers

I like their tactics to get on page one of google

However bit of a warning, don't keep saying it on here. Because as soon as IB get wind of any form of legal notice they''ll makes us to remove the thread (sign of the times I'm afraid).

Paste as many links to that thread on the Rover forum as much as you like though

besides, my neighbour must be about 20stone, she's about 4ft 11, when she starts going mental towards the local feral kids kicking bins 'n stuff, it's like watching an angry blancmange.

Hence my warning.

I think SN's search engine is partly powered by google, that combined with the IB influence means SN gets alot of hits from UK based searches.
