Default Used car warranties

Has anyone on here actually bought a used car warranty from the likes of Warranty Direct or similar.

How did you get on? Was there any hassles if a claim came up?

I have been told they are not worth the paper they are written on

they have the ultimate get out clause of "fair wear and tear"

(was told this by the guy who does my car air conditioning -- sells cars/vans during the winter with/without warranties)

I have - Warranty Direct are diabolically poor - avoid at all costs. £250 totally wasted.

They pay pitiful labour rates (less than half the true rate) and wriggle out of everything, Service is also tragic. It's just a dressed up pointless form of insurance - that doesn't pay out.

Now got BMW Used Approved Warranty which seems fairly comprehensive. But only useful on a BMW!

Thanks for that.

Funnily enough, it's an X5 i'm looking at, but with just a touch under 100k and 7 years old, i know i really should have some sort of cover just for even the auto box.

I doubt i'll be able to talk BMW into covering me for this car.

Bought a 3 yr warranty recently on a Mercedes .
Nationwide Warranties I think .

Had a few issues with car and took it back to dealer .Sorted them out .

I also mentioned another issue I had before taking it back to him .(pulley idler collapsed and belt came off .) Sorted it myself as it was only £40 for the part ,but the dealer said I should have brought it back as it was covered on the warranty .So he seems to indicate this Warranty company is good .

He did say they used to use RAC ,but they were not happy with them and now use the Nationwide Warranty company .

Initially the warranty had a £1000 limit ,but I told him because of the nature of the car ,it was not enough so he got it upped to £2000 per claim agreed by the warranty company .

3 yrs cost £1000 .

Regards.

Tesco warrantys are supposed to be very good, one of the only companies that covers the discovery 3. So it must be good as they are forever going wrong.

Thanks guys.

It seems Tesco have stopped doing the warranty for new customers. Shame as they sounded quite good elsewhere too.

Will look into National Warranty company.

I inherited a Warranty Direct type warranty when I bought a STiV some time ago. It was worded along lines of unlimited claim value per claim which was good When I switched the Policy to me (in my name) the new Policy turned up with the words altered to max of £1k per claim I queried it & they contested it for the entire year that the warranty was valid Needless to say I didn't renew ...

TX.
