It looks like the car it should have been in the first place!
I still feel 200 bhp was never enough to compete with the current hot hatches not with the extra weight every new car puts on.
But the Mugen special looks the nuts, just wonder if they release it what price tag it ll carry as the Mugen JDM model ain t cheap.

The rear spoiler looks ridiculous, and so is the price.

£40k

Dunno why they can't just stick a turbo on it and give it 300bhp like the other current contenders.

237bhp from a n/a 2 litre block is gonna be highly tuned as it is, so for any prospective buyers eventually wanting more power, you'd buy something else. Or I would at least.

Its the torque i would be worried about, my makita drill has more than that!! Never been Honda's strong point though

Torque is where it's at...... Only a match for a standard Focus ST no match at all for the RS or the R26

It's not the lack of torque that will hit the sales of the car - the normal Type R is selling well. But the price, it's a bit on the silly side. Even the most ardent Honda fan-boy will struggle to justify £35-40k for a civic.

Funny how you only mention the price as being a bit steep........

You can get a Litchfields Type-20 for less than that!

It will rape the Mugen over and over again............................

I drive a standard FN2 GT at the mo and its bad enough rear visibility as it is without that monstrosity on the back.

No one in their right mind would pay £40k when your in Cayman, TT RS territory. For the enthusiast there is the FD2 for a whole lot less.

40K is crazy money!
About the torque,i know they are low on paper but still higher than most 2.0 N/A cars,i found my old EP3 pretty capable for every day driving as the way they are geared makes up for the torque, but the old vtec engines like the B18c in my DC2 are pretty gutless unless being thrashed-but more fun when on the boil!

Mugen live in a differerent world for their parts prices and special edition car prices, there are far cheaper tuning parts from other well established companies.

As a few have mentioned, buy the JDM FD2 model and mod it a bit......or better still, but an older EP3 (£6k) and mod it with a Supercharger, Kpro, LSD, Geometry change, Tein and a few other bits (say £5k on mods) and it would be alot quicker for a just over a quarter of the price of the new Mugen.

I don't understand, when its been proven by many tuning companies, why Honda don't invest some R+D into applying superchargers in their new Type R models to keep them on pace with the ever changing power levels, cars like the Ariel Atom 300 use them on their K20 engine from new, OK its hardly mainstream, but it works and Honda could put far more money behind it.

.....also don't forget a Kpro remap on the K20 Engine (EP3) can drop the vtec to 4.5k (stock 6k) and increase the limiter to 8.6k (stock 8.2k), midrange can be improved to over 40bhp, top end by 20bhp, so with a much lower kickin and wider vtec power band its makes it easier to keep the car on boil when driving hard on a twistie road.

This is mad money, no-one in their 'right mind' will buy this, I have an FD2 and it's so accomplished compared to the FN2, all I need to do is some breathing mods, kpro and 250+ bhp, more than enough.

I doubt very much it will even live with a stock R26, let alone an R26R...

Don't be silly, off course it will live with a R26, stock FD2 will live with a R26.R and that thing had a frigging turbo under it's bonnet and plastic windows.
